None of it matters a jot. First off, even if the guy who posted the video did have a private conversation with him I really doubt Benteke is going to say no mate am out of here to Spurs or however he would say it lol, for obvious reasons. Secondly the guy could be attention seeking.

You don't hand in a transfer request unless you really want to go. So really at the end of the day I wouldn't trust what some random is saying. They're desperate for him to stay so will take anything out of it. The fact that he handed in a transfer request tells me that we must of assured him and his agent that we were going to bid big for him - but it might take time to get an agreement.

I'm sure Benteke knows that its not going to be done quickly now, and has been advised to act professional and go through the motions.

Personally I think the Villa fans are setting themselves up for a massive fall the way they're getting on. They're delusional if they think its because Benteke has just changed his mind because he has mate at the Club. What's he going to do, hold his mates hand for the rest of his career? We are a very big step up, no matter what Villa fans spout, of course he'll want to come if we can do the deal.

Still think we'll get him. There was no way on God's Green Earth Levy was going to wrap this up quickly. We are talking about smashing our transfer record here.

The fact we've heard so little keeps me confident. If we were way off I think news would of broke by now and links to other forwards would be materialising.

Really would like to get this wrapped up before the league starts. Would like him primed and ready to go for our derby 3 games in. Unfortunately we play the scum just before the window ends, so knowing us we may not be playing them with the new full strength squad.

I feel like I'm saying this a lot, and while I do agree it'd be enormous for him to have a near-full preseason with us, but the other teams that might get desperate and move for him (Arsenal/Liverpool) do worry me greatly.

Hopefully Levy is fully aware of this and won't try to prolong this deal and not get held up on a sell-on % clause.

I've just watched that video again anyway. There is no doubt in my mind that Benteke was really uncomfortable with those Villa fans. And he loved it when Spurs were mentioned - his face lit up like a Christmas tree ffs lol

Probably because he was politely greeting him. Nothing to read into it, I shook 3 peoples hands today(sorry for boasting) and it didn't mean anything very good or bad.

As for the apparent story about Benteke saying he's staying, conveniently before he started recording, and then going silent during the video. Probably the weakest attempt at a wum from a Villa fan yet. I worry for anyone that's worried by any of this

This. The change in his smile went from 'faking smile' to what seemed a genuine beam of excitement the moment he heard Tottenham. Confident we'll get him, question is how long til he does sign?

I had forgotten what the Villa statement actually said last week....think this is it, their press officer said this:

"Having received his transfer request, we have also informed him that should we receive an offer within an appropriate timeframe during pre-season which meets our valuation we would act upon it. But he will remain a Villa player should this not happen."

Surely the deadline is a week before the season kicks off then?
