We need to get tough with Villa

we are looking desperate - we must have other irons in the fire

Soon will be time to move on.

Long shot but I'm hoping that the Soldado rumours are true. It would be on a par with us signing VDV for me. A total football dream come true.

I'd like Benteke but eh, Soldado right now is better and it's not up for discussion. If we could get him for less money etc then it would be great business in terms of on the field production immediately, if not potential profit to be made of a future sale.

That Villatalk site is full of morons, some of them are convinced he's staying because he had his picture taken in one of their towns. It hurts to read some of their posts.

I hear what you're saying Misfit BUT what do we do in 2 or 3 years when Soldado is 31 or 32 & we once again need to sign a quality striker?

Someone posted that you don't hand in a transfer request unless you want to go, I'd suggest you can add "and knows where he's going" to that.

The someone who suggested that about the transfer request, also forgot a certain Mr Rooney a few years back & how he handed in a transfer request, then a shiny £250k p/w contract appeared & his transfer request was withdrawn. I'm not saying Benteke would be trying the same thing now, but I do wonder what he'd say if he was suddenly offered triple his current £20k p/w..

Soldado could keep going till he's 33/34. His intelligence and finishing is the best part of his game, he won't really lose that. But yes, Benteke would be the better option in my opinion.

Thanks WS, I've not seen much of Soldado, so can't be too sure as to how long he'll be able to go on for. I just don't want us looking for yet another quality striker in a few years.

If Ade goes to Besiktas im sure we'll be looking to bring in 2 new strikers. Benteke and Soldado both coming would be unreal, amazing but doubtful. If id to choose id prefer Benteke given the age difference, has adapted to the league and settled lifestyle and also is seemingly busting a gut to join us, not sure Soldado would be as willing to come as Benteke.

I agree. No doubting Soldado's talent. He's amazing but can't see how Levy would be prepared to spend that much on a 28 year old.

More the exception than the rule though. Rooney is at one of the biggest Clubs in the world as well. Its a little bit different.

Rumours have it that Villa offered him a new deal anyway and he wasn't interested.

To me it really seems that Benteke value his career the highest and wanting to get the most of it, thus semi-forcing his way onto bigger and better clubs when he has proven himself. I doubt that he would be really happy playing to avoid relegation in Villa, even on a greater wage. I could be totally wrong though...

I suspect we've offered to do that anyway so lets hope they don't offer him £250k per week :)

This is just too painful!

The jittery Spurs fan (is there any other kind) inside tells me that if Rooney or Suarez leave their respective clubs, or if Higuian doesn't go to Arsenal or, well, God knows what else, then those clubs could bid for Benteke and at the very least raise the transfer price.

I wish we'd sign him!!!! Put me out of my misery!!!

In 3 years we would have had 2 years of Champions League football and be able to attract bigger stars to the club. The money from that would also enable us to pay for them too. The other bonus would be that if we consistently qualify, Bale would stay or at the least add even more value to his already crazy price.
