There must be a couple of defenders being lined up, Vlad + some other... Just hope it doesn't go tits selling Caulker.

What the hell are we doing with our squad?

Improving it from what I can see. Attempting to shift deadwood and perhaps letting a couple go eg Caulker who most likely wont get much time in the coming season. £9m for a player who is still very young and not proven. Good business.

Seeing as Paulinho was told that Bale was going to stay, I wonder how there first conversation went at training today?

Who decision is this? DL's?, JL's? 50-50?

Head over to the Vlad thread. That deal has fallen through. The President put a stop to it from Prison. Only in Eastern Europe.

What we need to disperse the masses from the ledges around town, is a nice titbit of ITK...

Anyone?

What worries me is that we know there is quite a bit of deadwood in the squad that needs to be cleared out to save on wages & make room for new signings but Caulker wasn't one of the names on that list.

If this deal happens, is it because we've been unable to shift the likes of Hudd, Parker, Gomes, Adebayor, BAE, etc?

At first glance it simply doesn't make sense to sell a young home-grown player who at the very least provides cover in an area where we are a bit light at present.

Will we be able to get a better alternative at a lower price?

Some on here are keen on the Romanian bloke - but in reality I'd expect that very few have ever seen him play.

I don't know. I would like to read about Livermore,Parker, Huddle, BAE & Dempsey out first before we give up on a 21 year old home grown player.

Indeed it was difficult for Caulks last season and I am not a big fan of him but I would prefer a loan first tbh. He is 21....

I can't believe we'd sell Caulker before we signed a replacement. So if the Vlad deal has fallen through then surely Caulker stays?

Disappointed Vlad fell through, seemed like he could of been quite a coup and the sort of relatively unknown gamble we should be taking

WTF is going on, sounds like the next few weeks are going to be chaos. What's the point of selling Caulker? He's only going to get better and cut out his mistakes IMO.

Maybe he's not going to get better enough - in the opinion of those who coach him. I think our defence is over-rated by some. And it's time it was made good with top quality defenders. Yes, I know we need to grow players too. But there's also the the problem of keeping players who are on the bench but who also want to play regularly. There is no easy way round that. But Dawson, Walker, Naughton, Caulker and BAE are simply not of the same quality as say, Dembele, Paulinho, Bale, Lennon and the guy from Valencia. Doesn't mean I don't like them. And there may be a place for them as back-ups if they are happy. Our defence needs to be less porous to increase our goal difference and win percentage. I know this sounds harsh - I am not trying to be mean. Just honest.

Says who?

Says he.

Direct quotes from Paulinho. That he was told Bale would not be sold this year.

“To play in England for a great team like Tottenham is a dream. What I respect about Tottenham is the ambition they have shown.
“This summer there has been interest in their coach and their best player – and they have been clear they both are not going anywhere."

Surely we haven't signed Caulker off and sent him to Cardiff for a medical and their signature whilst the Vlad deal fell through. Cancel the move asap!
