Best scenario - we agree the terms to sell Bale in 12 months time. If Madrid want him that badly they can wait a year

I see no reason how Levy and Bale and Barnett will not settle for that.

Madrid may not but then the fee can be reduced from 100m which is what it will probably take now to 85m next year

With an agreement in place we can further strengthen squad for a push at the title whist Levy can increase our profile with Bale in our side
Maybe it is just wishful thinking but I have felt all along that this is the most likely scenario and still is

The speculation is getting boring now, just want it resolved to stop it dominating my thought process every day, one thing I will be grateful for if gareth goes is the memories of his development within our club and the wonderful last season he gave us, so many great goals and memories, we can only hope he feels the same and wants one more season of the same :)

I've always liked Le Tiss. He became a club legend at Southampton, he knows what he's saying. He's right, with the squad we're building we're on the verge of something huge.

It's romantic. But Le Tiss is the last player anyone with any aspirations of playing at the highest level and winning trophies should be listening to. Became complacent, never won anything, sabotaged his own international career and gained weight because there was no competition. Spent his career in relegation scraps.

Ok Le Tiss, I want to be just like you.

You make some very good points, although to be fair you miss one very big one for me.

Whilst there is a Southampton football club he will be immortal as a club legend.

Berbatov and Carrick will be lost in Manchester United's history within 20 years. As will Modric at Madrid.

I don't think that's a big point at all. It's fan romance.

When Carrick retires, he might not end up in the Scholes and Giggs roll of honor, but I think he'll be more than happy with his 4+ league titles and Champions league winners medal.

Being happy to be a big fish in a small pond is the attitude of a loser. You're a footballer for 10 maybe 15 years, you should be pushing yourself to see how good you can be all the time, otherwise it's a waste.

There's one difference though. We CAN win things. Bale would be massive in helping us do so. He could become a club legend while helping us win cups and leagues.

I'm clinging to the hope that Madrid won't be able to come up with the cash we would want.
It would have to be an obscene amount and to be paid on our terms. I just can't see it.
Hopefully, when Levy makes a statement it's to say that Bale is not for sale at any price this summer...*prays*

Fair point, I'm sure being able to show those medals to his grand kids will be the most important thing.

Maybe I'm a romantic but I believe there is some value in being a club legend. I'm sure those Wigan FA Cup winners are going to be revered for a long time. Doubt many Utd fans remember who played in their last few domestic cup wins there have been so many.

Weren't there rumours too Bale's father wanted him to reach legend status before he left? I'd imagine if he won an FA Cup with Spurs before leaving he'd probably regard that better than any achievement he'd get at RM aside from winning the CL or Ballon D'or.

In the cold light of day though you are spot on. Players will always want the moves that give you the best chance of winning trophies, the best prestige and the highest pay in the modern day.

Thanks for adding that. I thought that was a given. I wish players saw that too but a career is short and they want a sure thing.

That's why I admire the likes of Dortmund who continue to compete while Dortmund keep poaching their best players. Those trophies under Klopp for me are vastly more valuable to those won by Bayern in the prior 10 years.

Whilst we are on an upward trajectory I wouldn't say Bale staying would show a losers mentality. If he stayed while we went backwards and other big players left then yeah you are right.

Sadly we have seen this too many times and we know what happens...

Is rather important wether you're a footballer or not, if Le Tiss is happy with his life and his career, pointing out that he should've done this or that is rather pointless and even a bit arrogant.

In The Sun today.

Spurs players asked Gareth Bale to autograph their shirts in an emotional farewell yesterday.

Surely it would be possible to find out if this is true or not. Unlikely all the Spurs players have been sworn to secrecy on the deal. If true clearly he's off, if not it will pretty much confirm the newspapers are just printing whatever they like.

So who's mates with Danny Rose?

The rest of the world thinks it.

I always find it funny that when a player doesn't want to join spurs we question their ambition but when a player wants to join the biggest club in the world. Champions league semi finalists with a real chance of pushing for la liga as well we say they should want to become a legend at a lower level team. Listen to yourselves, take off the spurs specs and apply some logic to the situation of a pro footballer. This opportunity may only come around once.

I don't and I guess it's easy to find people who agree with it.

Anyway being footballer makes you public figure, not public property. He is entitled to do whatever makes him happy and going against public opinion doesn't make him loser, it proves he is strong.
