I just can figure out why Bale is so desperate to leave now, he has only really had one season of consistently fantastic football due in no small part to AVB. He has the next 5/6 years to play in Spain if that's what he wants but why not stay for one more year and carry on the good work from last season. He will never be given the freedom at RM he will be allowed here. I understand the desire to play for one of the best clubs in the world but he's only 24, why rush out the door. And I'm not even going to mention all the family ties. I guess at least it's not Man U he wants to move to. I guess it's just sad as after a lot of talk at the end of last season about new contracts and the players we have been bringing in I almost managed to convince myself he would be staying long term. Now I need an update about Lamela and Vlad to cheer me up, was so happy when the goat mentioned those two.

I understand your point, but what would you do if you were Bale? Bearing in mind you wouldn't be a Spurs supporter and you could get a career threatening injury at any time. Would you honestly wait at a smaller club, not much chance of winning anything etc.

I understand his attraction to Madrid completely. I have been in a similar place professionally and I took the new job, for clarity I should say it was a bloody disaster, but nonetheless I think I would do it again.

I don't think the 'not much chance of winning anything' applies to us now! Even if Bale were to go, I still think we have a strong enough squad to challenge for cups and possibly even the league with the purchases we have made this season. I understand about RM, but he could at least give it a year. (I actually firmly believe that he will as it happens):)

Have you actually seen him play the lone striker role? I can't recall any info on him suggesting he can. I've heard he has played as either a winger, a wide forward or a no. 10 role.

I think if we are to successfully challenge at the top end of the table we need to move away from the idea of players just "doing a job" and have genuine competition. Again, Bale could probably "do a job" there but playing with his back to goal is not his strong point and it would deprive the team of its biggest strength.

We need 3 genuine strikers IMO, which is why if Ade leaves, I hope we have a younger striker lined up who is more willing to be a squad memeber and bide their time.

He primarily plays an attacking midfield role but can also play out on both wings and in the hole. At a push he can play as a striker as he has a good first touch, is a good finisher and moves well. Dempsey didn't play as a striker but we still bought him with a view to filling that role in a pinch, and that is exactly what Chadli can do.

We also do not need three strikers, we just need two that fit the system. Soldado + another would give us good enough cover considering we have a very talented academy and squad players capable of playing that role. Unfortunately Defoe is as useful as a lone striker as a chocolate teapot, so we may end up with 3, however if both target men are injured we would still end up as f**ked with or without Defoe.

From a personal and careerist point of view, I actually think Bale would be a little foolish not to take the chance to go to Madrid. Obviously I hope he stays, but objectively it makes little sense to me that he would want to stay. He's a top tier player, playing for a a third tier club. Even if we had qualified for the Champions League I would still have expected him to leave - in his career, we will never be able to offer him the platform to win the trophies he should be winning. That's before you even take into account money.

JJ earlier claimed Bale is definately going. There hasn't been much Bale news the last week - Good or bad thing?

Would be interesting to hear if anything has changed or not...

20 days left of the window - Nothing happening today. 19 days left... I think I will give my girlfriend a good round in the toilet-hole if he stays! Maybe even force an a**-to-mouth... Well, I am kissing those lips... Well, who gives a crap (!), I'll eat my own shit if he stays!

Don't think he said that. IIRC, he said he thought he would go.

Yes he probably does, and I said as much.

Loyalty does not exist in football. Simple as that. If Bale wanted to go, handed in a TR or whatever, I'd sell ASAP. Different players have different aspirations. And unfortunately for us our status means that any top quality players that come our way will want to leave eventually, when the giants come calling.

And I wouldn't say 'quick' to want JL to leave. I've wanted him gone since it became apparent he was not good enough, which was well over a year ago. Just as we are arguably below Bale's level (Modric, Carrick, Berbatov etc) we are above (WELL ABOVE in my opinion) Livermore's level.

I fail to see how loving Spurs should get you a contract with them regardless of ability. If that was the case we'd all be quids in.

The difference is he HAS a contract with spurs. Given to him by spurs. If he is happy here then not wanting to leave is his option. To say it makes you question him as an athlete/pro is out of order

What makes me question him are his performances for Spurs; I've yet to see a good one.

What it boils down to, and what you are overlooking, is that while he has a contract here he has been offered others that will give him first team football.

I do not think it is 'out of order' to question someone who actively rejects such moves just to stagnate on a bench.

I'm sure that'll do his 'athleticism' the world of good.

We'll have to agree to disagree as I didn't agree with the thinking re the Dempsey signing at the time and I haven't changed my mind since. I think we need 3 strikers who fit the system as I think its important to have players on the bench who can change games an not just cover for injuries.

I completely take your point about Defoe though, as he doesn't fit the system. There may be times though when we can change the system when we are chasing games or its not working.

We are in a difficult position though. We have one striker who fits the system but won't play second fiddle and another who would respond better to competition but who is only really cut out for a 4-4-2. Ideally we would keep Ade, give him a personality transplant, sell Defoe and buy someone younger who fits the system.

I believe he wants to go, but I disagree with you that he should take this chance:
If this is his "only" chance to go to Real Madrid that would mean he isn't as good as we all think he is.

If he is indeed top 5 in the world, then he will get the same chance every f***ing year!He could even let his contract run out and go to Madrid for free.

If he goes now he must accept a couple of negative things:
  • He will not be their star player and crowd favourite as that spot i taken (Ronaldo)
  • He cannot speak the language - This is probably more of an issue than people think. Imagine working for a Company where only a few spoke your language and even understood what you are saying.
  • He will have enormous expectations on his shoulders! The 100M+ tag would be used against him on every occasion
Yes, I understand that he wants to play for the worlds biggest club, but this will happen if he is as good as he was last year! Barcelona, Madrid, United, Munchen - He can choose whatever club he wants to!

Last Summer Daws was told he could leave, we had offers on the table but he chose to stay & fight for his place. where's the difference with Livermore thinking he's good enough & chosing to stay? I feel like giving up some times
