Do I think that the potential loss of 100m matters to Joe Lewis?

I'm going to go with....yes...yes it does matter to Joe Lewis.

We finish bottom half next season and the loss will be far greater if we can't fund a new stadium.....

Its 85 isn't it? That the itk at hand.

And as I just said he won't lose 85 million
..

Bale will still command a fee. .... Odds of CL football increase massively......and with that the funding of a new stadium becomes an absolute breeze.

As I said....short sighted to think otherwise...

The potential short term upside is far greater by keeping him in my opinion. And if he scores another 20, his value is even greater. That's small time compared to a 5 mil a week stadium for forever and a day though.

Also just to note, people keep spelling his name wrong.

I agree that there is a possibility he'll be worth as much next season, but with the contract running down the likelihood is that this wouldn't be the case.

I think there is sense in spending £50m or so based on the fact that we'll make at least that much out of Bale whenever we sell him, but I think that we have to, and will take into serious consideration any world record bid.

I don't think that means he'd be happy to lose another £100m :)

Yes, a world record bid obviously has to be considered very carefully.

Ultimately Levy has a lot to weigh up and he might just decide that Bale's stock isn't likely to be this high again. Although I would disagree with that sentiment.

I'm going to try and remain indifferent to the Bale situation as it's such a head fuck and hard not to get drawn in!

I think Sunday will be indicative; he should in theory be fit by then for at least a place on the bench.

To be fair there isn't a single part of that post that isn't supposition or guess-work.

I would love us to keep Bale AND to spend money and go on to challenge for the title. Of course I would. But we don't know what impact an 85m+ injection of cash might have on the club. We don't know how much of a fuss Bale has been kicking up.

Basically we don't know anything.

So to suggest so matter-of-factly that we'd be stupid to sell is, in my humble opinion, pretty short-sighted in itself.

Behave mate your better than that
Brazilian league? Really? A fat Ronaldinho is running the show in that league. There isn't a defender in sight.

Such world beaters as RVN and Suarez have torn up the PL. But for every one of them there was a Kezman and an Alfonso Alves. Again its a shit league.

They are no guarantees by any stretch.

I hope they bed in quickly. But you need continuity and stability in the squad, and with Bale potentially and Dempseys goals going , we are left with a load of players who.by and large were shit last season in the final third and then newcomers.

Agree with this

Should have been done as soon as he got cold feet.
Obviously money needed sorting but I don't see the point forcing players to stay anymore.
Don't think anyone is forcing him to stay, it's more a case of 'if you want him - this is the price, if you do not meet it, he stays until you do' big difference....

If this is the long goodbye, then I would like to thank Gareth for going. By doing so he has allowed us to rake in a wheelbarrow load of dosh, so much dosh that we can now buy more players so that the team will not have to rely on one person to score all the goals, and other players will now be able to flourish in their own right. Good luck with your new team.

To be fair, every signing is a gamble, regardless of their previous successes and whatever league they played in.

You can never know if a player will mesh with his new teammates or have a personality conflict with a coach, or get home sick, etc.

But you still have to take the chances as they avail themselves or never markedly improve your standing.

There is no way that we have already made an agreement about bale. The inquisition did it's job too well. Now as soon as a spaniard gets information he sings like a canary with no need of encouragement.

I still believe that he'd already decided he wanted out when we failed to get 4 th.
I still think it's been agreed he can go for sometime after an initial round of talks trying to convince him to stay one more year.
I still think the huge outlay we've spent already is preemptive. Once he goes it will be reported as "a world record fee" them we may downs a further 30m or so and that'll be it.

I'm pretty certain this talk of uncle Joes 50m loan etc is either a smokescreen to secure our targets at fair prices or simply a misunderstanding. He may have fronted it on the proviso Bale is sold and he gets it back.

One way or another I'm certain our net spend this summer week be quite low.

Trusting avb's eye for talent is as good as it's supposed to be now.

The thing is if we sell bale, it's alright saying we will have a better squad when we reinvest theoney in players a and b, but what haopens when they have a good season and they then want out or someone like Sandro or jan do the same...

We will end up like arsenal, in that we will always say we will challenge next year but then keep losing our best players every year leaving us saying, but we will challenge next year...
Look at the team arsenal could of had, fabregas, Henry, van nasri, not even mentioning players like clichy (who I actually rate as garbage myself) which would make a great team but year after year they lose someone. This also reflects in us that we could of lined up with modric bale and berba last season which would of seen us make top 4 IMO.

After modric, berbatov and as far back as judas, I really hope bale isn't the next on the list!

If they all have a good season, then we really should be finishing top 4, get CL and they'll stay.

1. You'll not bother going to Spurs games just because Bale won't be playing? Are you a Spurs fan or a Bale fan?

2. You'd try to make a massive profit out of fellow Spurs fans?

Not making a great impression, to be fair, are you?

I'd be doing exactly what the club has done to you. Are they not spurs fans either?

I'm sick of the club having no respect for the fans. We ARE the club.
