Some of us chose to not believe every single piece of itk. Not because we don't believe it's true but because it's open to interpretation.

I'm interpreting it that we'll sign him before we sell Bale.
i'm certainly not suggesting anyone should believe every or even any piece of ITK - I am simply asking why there is a sudden upsurge in talk of his departure (like one would expect to see after ITK suggesting he is off for example - hence me asking what I had missed)

As for what you or whoever believe - why doubt the manager or the chairman? both have said he's not for sale

Maybe, but look at the opening post of this thread...

Burt was the first to mention Lamela as a target exactly 2 months ago today, at that time he suggested that a big bid for Lamela would be unlikely IF we bought David Villa, but said he was a perfect fit for the type of football AVB wants us to play.

Also worth noting in that article Burt says that AVB sees Lamela as a player to "complement" Bale in a fluid forward line, rather than as a replacement.

If this really comes off and we keep Bale, the only thing I could see keeping us from being legitimate title challengers is a LB and a CB. My preference? Bruno Martins Indi and a guy like Coentrao. I love Martins Indi's versatility and he could essentially take the role of Vertonghen as our CB/LB cover.

Why not Stefan de Vrij? I rate him better than Martin's Indi and I think his game is highly suited to what AVB is trying to get out of his CB's.

Martins Indi is naturally a LCB, something we need in my opinion.
Except his future would remain as a backup LCB if we're putting a lot of importance on their footedness. I also can't see him ever developing into a starting LB as he lacks the pace.

I think equal arguments could be made for a RCB. Not to mention the fact that I've always thought the footedness of a CB was not at all very important.

Stefan de Vrij would have the opportunity to become the starting CB beside Vertonghen. As Kaboul's health is seemingly always in flux and Dawson is getting older and seems to be settling into a backup role as is.

We've seen how AVB will often change the back four to fit the opponent. Having Martins Indi around would allow us to utilize him much similar to how we did Vertonghen. Now, if that will change when we have a legitimate LB will have to be seen, but I think on the whole it was successful enough to warrant more consideration. Martins Indi doesn't have incredible pace, but for a CB it's well above average and at LB it's probably considered a step above the likes of a Kolarov.

I always felt Martins Indi was the better player between de Vrij and him. His ability to drive forward in attack, his strength is very impressive despite his frame and he's got great technique. I think de Vrij is a talented player but if AVB wants CBs that can play through the back and get into the attack, Martins Indi is a perfect fit as he's essentially another Vertonghen (with not as thunderous of a shot, though).

Tottenham Hotspur might not be willing to pay up for Erik Lamela and/or Miralem Pjanic in the end, but apparently their interest in at least one of the two players is very real. According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, who works primarily for Sky Italia, the two sides are in intense negotiations.
Here's what he had to say, in Italian:
Sabatini ha.incontrato a Londra anche il dt del Tottenham Franco Baldini. Sul tavolo Pjanic e Lamela, due calciatori che agli Spurs possono interessare a determinate condizioni. Il tutto se Osvaldo non dovesse partire. Al momento soltanto dei colloqui interlocutori. La Roma rientra dall'Inghilterra. Sono ore.

I'm saving judgement on this window as if Bale goes it will put a downer on it but will still be a very good window.

However if he stays and we got Lamela too it would be just ridiculous.

Since it's pronounced La-MAY-la, can we get some Derek and the Dominos action going?

"La-may-la....got me on my knees..."

Maybe a touch homoerotic? Can't imagine big Barry from Basildon wanting to sing that. There again, if he smashes one in past the goons, anything is possible

Personally, if we sell Bale and end up with Lamela, Soldado, Chadli, Paulinho and Capoue, I'll be quite alright. Crazy thing is I think we might do even more than that if Bale is sold.

With a front 3 of Lamela-Soldado-Bale and a midfield 3 of Dembele-Sandro-Paulinho is eye watering. That has to be challenging for the title.
