Agree nothing phases him, but I wasn't talking as if there would be a revolt. I merely meant that there would be a lot of pissed off fans, I never said that would equate to people protesting, you've just jumped to that interpretation. Going for it hopefully implies we will stand firm on Bale, unless Madrid meet our exact terms, and we are building around Bale with real quality - which we're already a long way to doing with the signings we've brought in.

Burt and AVB have a special relationship. However Burt did say previously that Lamela was unlikely earlier in the window.

Maybe, but look at the opening post of this thread...
Burt was the first to mention Lamela as a target exactly 2 months ago today, at that time he suggested that a big bid for Lamela would be unlikely IF we bought David Villa, but said he was a perfect fit for the type of football AVB wants us to play.
