7mWalter Sabatini & Franco Baldini met in London today to discuss the transfer of Erik Lamela & Miralem Pjanic from Roma, up to Levy now #THFC
JeffH @JeffHervel
6mThe fee is 47Million Euros's for both, payment conditions have to be met by #THFC
where the hell would we play Pjanic?!
If I was Holtby or Chadli I would be pissed off at this.
That said, Lamela goodness yes yes yesssss please
I don't think this happens without us selling Bale, I'll preface this comment with that.
The only thing I can think of is that Pjanic could provide starting talent at three positions (LW, in the hole, AM/most advanced midfielder in the 4-3-3).
But, when we've already got Siggy who can do the same and Holtby who can cover in the hole/advanced midfielder, it seems like a waste of funds.
If we want him strictly as a LW to share duties with Chadli, it could make sense I assume.
LW: Pjanic and Chadli
AM: Holtby, Siggy
RW: Lamela, Townsend
I think we view Holtby as more of a Dembele type midfielder than a true attacking mid

It's not a waste of funds if Pjanic is a better player, which he is IMO.
if we pull off a double swoop for Lamela & Pjanic it would be Tevez & Mascherano esque!
Going forward yes, but defence still scares me at the moment. If we can keep bale and also get Lamela, we would have a scary as shit team!

Granted, he might be. But if you were to ask me if I'd prefer to spend around 20m Euros on a possible upgrade on a player you already have or fill two major needs in CB/LB, I'm probably going with the CB/LB. If we get Lamela, a CB and a LB, we're a very well-rounded side. Even if Bale does depart.
Yeah but thats assuming that the Pjanic rumour is true and the Alderweireld/Rami/any other defender we've been linked to are not true. There's been links to CB's just as there is a link to Pjanic, so to say if we sign Pjanic it would mean not spending in others is pure speculation. If you look at it on its own merits it makes sense, he's a top class player that will improve us, and personally I think we need a 'passer' of top quality if we want to compete higher than just 4th spot.

If the combined price is 47m euros, then that's £40 million. If we are paying 30 million for Lamela, then it would be an additional 10 million for Pjanic. Imo, it would mean selling Gylfi to raise the funds. Then the question is whether Pjanic is better, which idk. There's not much difference in terms of productiveness, though I know that both players have made many of their appearances off the bench.
I think Pjanic could probably give us creativity from midfield, but I'd be surprised if he was a starter there ahead of our other players. But his utility/ability to play in multiple positions could give him a lot of game time.
