40m for the two is a steal. The best scenario would be to bring them both and let AVB decide who he will play and sell. I do think we will keep Sig before a few others.

Idk I think Siggy is toward the back of the pecking order in central midfield now. I would think that Sandro, Capoue, Dembele, and Paulinho are probably untouchable, which leaves Holtby, Siggurdsson, Carroll, and Parker (who will almost certainly be sold). If we brought in Pjanic, who from what I've heard is more of a central, creative type of midfielder, then I think it would necessitate someone else going out because we can't have 8 central midfielders. If we sold Parker and Sigurdsson, and loaned out Carroll, then we would cover the cost of Pjanic and still have 6 central midfielders - Sandro Capoue, Dembele, Paulinho, Holtby, Pjanic, which is plenty of quality and more than enough players imo.

I would love to see that midfield but for one reason: I would know there will never be another transfer window even half as awesome.

I don't think this happens without us selling Bale, I'll preface this comment with that.

The only thing I can think of is that Pjanic could provide starting talent at three positions (LW, in the hole, AM/most advanced midfielder in the 4-3-3).

But, when we've already got Siggy who can do the same and Holtby who can cover in the hole/advanced midfielder, it seems like a waste of funds.

If we want him strictly as a LW to share duties with Chadli, it could make sense I assume.

LW: Pjanic and Chadli
AM: Holtby, Siggy
RW: Lamela, Townsend

Precisely this.
He is also a far better player than Siggy and Holtby with more drive and pace.
I think Pjanic has the potential to be a super player and is already as good as Jack Wiltshire,if not better.

Personally, I'd like to see Chadli, Pjanic and Lamela in behind Solado.

By doing that, we could let Pjanic do what he does best and set others up for goal scoring chances. If Lamela/Chadli could put together 20+ goals combined, to pair with Soldado, we might be okay in the long run.

By playing that attacking 4 and rotating Sandro, Capoue, Paulinho, Dembele and Holtby we could really set our team for opponents and still give us enough presence in midfield to hold up against even the strongest of opponents.

For me that's the dream ticket right there.

If the combined price is 47m euros, then that's £40 million. If we are paying 30 million for Lamela, then it would be an additional 10 million for Pjanic. Imo, it would mean selling Gylfi to raise the funds. Then the question is whether Pjanic is better, which idk. There's not much difference in terms of productiveness, though I know that both players have made many of their appearances off the bench.

I think Pjanic could probably give us creativity from midfield, but I'd be surprised if he was a starter there ahead of our other players. But his utility/ability to play in multiple positions could give him a lot of game time.

Pjanic is quite a bit better than Gylfi, imo. The only reason he doesn't have a dozen suitors laying out £25 + million bids to try and get him, is because he had 3 different managers in the last couple of years and he hadn't a chance to settle down and display his abilities to the fullest extent (he only started about a quarter or a little more of all the fixtures for Roma).
He and Eriksen are arguably the two most grossly underrated playmaking CM's in Europe ATM (although Eriksen is more gettable and affordable of the two). In fact, he (Eriksen) will never again be as cheap and available as he is right now.
Pjanic on the other hand will require a bit more money, and up until 3 weeks ago he wouldn't have been easy to deal for.
However, since Roma signed Strootman (and they have Bradley as well), they won't be losing their primary playmaker (if they do decide to part ways).
Now, back to Lamela, do you guys think it's an actual possibility for us to sign him this year? I personally find it hard to believe (as much as I want to believe it).

ok granted i am a spurs fan so wouldn't like him anyway but i really don't rate Jack Wilshire at all lol so imo it ain't that hard to be better than him? and is it any coincedence arse's best form came when he was injured?

But it isn't pronounced La-may-la.

Vuelvo y repito, se pronuncia: lah-meh-lah en español boludos.

I agree - “la - meh - la”. In answer to the original question, although the actual Romance vowel’s slightly longer than the Anglo version, it’s still good enough for our chant to rhyme with “umbrella” - especially on a wet Tuesday night away at Stoke! Can’t imagine their lot coming up with a chant to embarrass us by highlighting the slight vowel differential. And if they do, we can always re-counter with an in-your-cakehole riposte of, “Bunch of cunning linguists...you’re just a bunch of cunning linguists!” 53-year-old newbie here - lifelong Spurs fan. Great forum, guys!

If we had ANY CHANCE of getting Pjanic and Lamela for 47million euros....................rip their arms off Danny Boy!

Let's see, 47 million Euros is about £40 million at the current exchange rate.
Yes, that's spot on - it's about how much we'd have to lay out if we wanted to get them both. All other clubs would have to pay at least £5-6 million more.
Sadly, next year they will both cost double that amount. :(

That would be pretty amazing as deals go, the guy loses credibility by being retweeted by Easton though.

Also it would mean bye bye Siggy which would be sad.

Shit, as much as I like him, I'd sacrifice two Siggies (if we had a way to clone him), just to be able to sign Lamela for 1 year.
Yes, I am that much sold on him.
Unfortunately, players like that are a beautiful pipe dream, imo. (Apologies in advance for being a party pooper).

Prove me wrong, Levy, please.

Eatson retweeted this, but the guy has 16k followers:
Maybe, given the odd Osvaldo news - It's Osvaldo + Lamela for the reported fee?

I can only hope and would love it simply for Lamela. Plus adding Khal Drogo ain't bad, seems like a Cardiff (Khaleesi) move though...;)

Get these 3 for 50m. Will take our spending to 110m. Sell Bale for 70m plus Morata and Coentrao. A few more deadwood sales and we would break even...

Not necessarily Lamela-related (though I'm hoping it is), but sounds like the Telegraph might be worth reading tomorrow. AVB's mate Jason Burt just said on Twitter

"They (Spurs) are going for it... a lot of good names in the frame. Can't say more."

When asked why he can't reveal any more he said:

"Not on Twitter. Buy the paper..."

He also implied that Joe Lewis is the catalyst behind this summer's spend-up.

Anyone seen this article yet?
