I've just watched the 8 minute YouTube footage of him showing his goals, corners, passing, free kicks etc. I know it's YouTube but wow. I didn't know much about him - why has no-one else snapped him up? Did I read somewhere he only wanted Madrid or Barca or did I make that up?

He has turned down City, Dortmund, etc. over the last few years in order to find the right move for himself.

Why would he turn those down? Is this fact or reports from papers? Genuinely interested to find out why.

I'm pretty sure they were real offers. He turned down City as he was more concerned with getting himself playing time then money (good choice), he turned down Dortmund as I think he didn't see himself fitting in (they had Goetze at this point in time), and others well I can't remember all the clubs.

Part of him turning down moves was an arrogance that he would get an offer from Barca or Madrid, but mostly it was down to solid professional reasons and him being happy with his development at Ajax.

City because behind Tevez and Silva he wouldn't have played much, Dortmund I'm not sure but I think it was a year or two ago so presumably he felt he needed to remain at Ajax and continue developing, also competing with Gotze would have been very difficult.

It is always nice to have an echo... ;)

Wouldnt matter if he was.

Eriksen is too smart for it and has already turned down several big money moves.

He seems like a top, top lad. I am very happy to have someone of his character here. Outside of making a decision for footballing reasons (and not financial), there are videos of him driving around Amsterdam and simply talking to fans. He seems very down to earth. Unless there are some hidden personality issues I haven't heard about, I think he will fit in very, very well with our clubs attitude, style and character. I mean this on the football field and off (philanthropy, media, etc).

He turned Dortmund and City down because part of the reason was that he wanted to play for a team with great tradition.

Using Eriksen out wide would be a complete waste if you ask me. Siggy can get away with it and I'm sure Eriksen could, but he's far too good in the middle of the field to be used in wider positions. Lamela has adapted to that role it seems, so it's more likely we'll see him out there.

It's amazing how relieved I am now that we didn't get Willian. I was so gutted when that fell through.

(Might end up being great still, mind)

The thing is.....it seems that we've put in place some kind of way to give attitude/personality a score that is used as a metric in evaluating prospects.

Coco seems really down to earth
Paulinho was so gracious when leaving
Holtby is just a lovely chap
Eriksen is grounded in a way few footballers ever are

Is part of that perception as a fan wanting these players to be "good guys". Maybe. But I've never been blind to a player being a douche.

I loved Davids. But I would have told you then as I would now that he is a massive tool.
I think this is a really good point, you can take it back further to Vertoghen, Lloris, Dempsey (RIP), Holtby, they all seem like really decent, hardworking fellas, not the sort of people who'd be vaguely interested in going to Faces in Gants Hill and getting off with someone from TOWIE...

I think Dembele and Sandro are the ones most at risk. Right now Paulinho and Capoue seem nailed on and Eriksen is a playmaker more than Dembele.
Lloris
Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Rose
Capoue Paulinho
Eriksen
Lamela Soldado Chadli

Our bench would be awesome
Friedel Dawson / Chiriches Dembele Sandro Holtby /Carroll Lennon Defoe

Of course if we signed Hernandez and Coentrao it would be even better

Lloris
Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Coentrao
Capoue Paulinho
Eriksen
Lamela Soldado Chadli

Friedel Dawson / Chiriches Sandro Dembele Carroll / Holtby Lennon Hernandez

I agree completely. I really don't think it's by accident.

I remember Valencia Yid saying that Levy vetoed a move for Bellamy due to his perceived personality, and I trust Val completely on that.

Harry was also someone that cared a lot about the character of the people at the club. He wanted winning mentalities like Parker and even Keane, but was clearly determined to bring in decent people that would create a positive atmosphere at the club. Players that (apparently) didn't fit this like the Prince, Gio, and Bentley, soon found themselves out in the cold. Of course the one big exception to this was Harry's attempts to sign that scumbag Charlie Adam.

We haven't had many 'dirty' players over the last few years that I can think of. As a fan base we seem to be pretty ethical about what we expect at the club (Zokora diving and winning a penalty against Portsmouth was generally considered to have left a bad taste in the mouth). Bale's diving (and yes I think he did dive some of the time) was also something that left people uncomfortable.

Clubs like the chavs have deliberately built a team of assholes because they probably think it is connected to having a winning attitude. Generally speaking I'd say we've built/are building a team of decent characters that won't create a hostile atmosphere.

Having said that, I think Soldado and Capoue are both quite 'tenacious' characters, and that will probably become apparent over the course of the season.

I not sure Davids is a complete tool. He sent the Barnet team bus to courier fans to their destination after their bus had broken down.
