Putting this into perspective, Everton buy McCarthy for £30 mill. What kind of football people do they have at the club. What a shame. The people have to be simply dumb.
Everton did what???

In the real world you can't tell another business who they can sell to and who they can't.
What's the worst that could of happened, RM saying no and pulling out of the deal, us losing our highly beneficial partnership ?
Hardly a loss, we couldn't even get a fringe player in return for a top 10 player in the world
If you didn't have some leverage I would agree, but in this case we held the cards, they wanted Bale so much they were prepared to break the transfer record, I can't see why we couldn't use that to our advantage and I doubt they would have lost the chance of getting Bale as a result.
While I don't know if it's legal to include that as part of the deal, you could certainly have a gentlemans agreement and shake hands on it, or even if you didn't want to go as far as completely stopping RM selling to a rival, we could have included a clause in the sale that meant we got some more money if RM sold to a rival as a result, anything to dissuade them from strengthening a rival as a direct result of buying our best player.
It's funny how so many people complain about this partnership in a way that makes it painstakingly obvious that they simply don't actually know what the partnership involves!
The partnership is at youth level and nothing to do with the first team
Bale didn't want to be here, had refused to train and play, as a kid he wanted to play for Real Madrid, this was his chance and he took it. A player will always force a move if he really wants to and you never know how committed he will be if you don't sell him.
We did use it to our advantage, at te beginning of last season he was worth £35 million, by christmas we were talking £55 million, we sold for £86 million.
No club in their right minds is going to allow another club to dictate to them who they can sell their players to, that's just pure fantasy thinking.
Of course it isn't legal it's restraint of trade for the player who could then sue us.
I also said the same about Dempsey and siggy and people finally came round to my thinking.
If only people had listened to your thoughts on Gareth, we wouldn't be lacking in the left back position would we?
