Putting this into perspective, Everton buy McCarthy for £30 mill. What kind of football people do they have at the club. What a shame. The people have to be simply dumb.
You mean 13 million

Think this partnership has run its course.

I shall be supporting Barca big time this year.

In the real world you can't tell another business who they can sell to and who they can't.

What's the worst that could of happened, RM saying no and pulling out of the deal, us losing our highly beneficial partnership ?

Hardly a loss, we couldn't even get a fringe player in return for a top 10 player in the world

If you didn't have some leverage I would agree, but in this case we held the cards, they wanted Bale so much they were prepared to break the transfer record, I can't see why we couldn't use that to our advantage and I doubt they would have lost the chance of getting Bale as a result.

While I don't know if it's legal to include that as part of the deal, you could certainly have a gentlemans agreement and shake hands on it, or even if you didn't want to go as far as completely stopping RM selling to a rival, we could have included a clause in the sale that meant we got some more money if RM sold to a rival as a result, anything to dissuade them from strengthening a rival as a direct result of buying our best player.

I can't believe people on here are getting their knickers in a twist over Real selling Ozil to Arsenal and loaning Coentrao to United. It's amazing that people are shocked that a club with very little morals, who have cheated the system finanically over the years throug the Spanish government and bullied many a club by tapping up their players, would do something like that.

Do not expect any favours from anyone in a position of power in football. It's a dog eat dog world and that's reflected perfectly in the morally questionable world of football. I'm just glad we actually got that much money for Bale and that we weren't forced to somehow let him go for less. Madrid were always going to sell/loan out players to whoever they wanted regardless of our "special relationship".

Get over it people.

The partnership is at youth level and nothing to do with the first team

Bale didn't want to be here, had refused to train and play, as a kid he wanted to play for Real Madrid, this was his chance and he took it. A player will always force a move if he really wants to and you never know how committed he will be if you don't sell him.

We did use it to our advantage, at te beginning of last season he was worth £35 million, by christmas we were talking £55 million, we sold for £86 million.

No club in their right minds is going to allow another club to dictate to them who they can sell their players to, that's just pure fantasy thinking.

Of course it isn't legal it's restraint of trade for the player who could then sue us.

It's funny how so many people complain about this partnership in a way that makes it painstakingly obvious that they simply don't actually know what the partnership involves!

No one seems to know what it involves because no one from either club has ever explained it, to my knowledge, and we've had zero evidence of there having been any cooperation at any level between the clubs.

Great post.

The idea of preventing the free movement of workers and colluding with a "competitor" to fix the market is not even close to legal.

We should stop referring to this meaningless marketing speak as if it's any thing other than that. Football is politics and PR. The "partnership" is nothing.

It's threads like these that I didn't hang around yesterday. I'm starting to not like a lot of our fans, I'm not saying that they have to agree with me or I have to agree with them, but please step back sometimes and think about what you are actually saying.

I had intended to write a long post explaining my thoughts on it, but you know what, I can't be bothered as it would probably get lost amongst the angst.

Back to lurking again for me for a bit

What was everyone actually expecting from this partnership? That Ozil and Coentrao would be drugged by Madrid and convinced that Spurs are the greatest thing since sliced bread? selling them both to us for 5p and a bag of jellied eels for letting them spend £33m on a midfielder they got very little return out of last year?

I also said the same about Dempsey and siggy and people finally came round to my thinking.

If only people had listened to your thoughts on Gareth, we wouldn't be lacking in the left back position would we?

Ozil is just one player. He could get injured tomorrow and that's 42.5 million wasted. Sure we didn't get a player of his class but overall our squad wipes the floor with Arsenals.

Eriksen, Lamela and Capoue £45 million

Or Ozil £42.5 million

Everyone can see who did the better business and it was all funded by RM so I don't hate them.

Am I missing something or just failed to see where it's working at youth level? Someone remind me if so.

If not, then I don't really understand what benefit there is for us.

Oh look who pipes up the person that takes a comment i made when Bale was at left back when he was 17 and use's it to try and make me look foolish? I can laugh about that Bale comment but the difference was Bale was always going to be a top player i just got the wrong position, just like so many others.

It's my opinion having seen Chadli quite a bit over his career to tell you that in flashes he has some serious ability however he is not consistent enough. This is not a 17 year old left back we are talking about this is a 23 year old winger who is already getting towards his peak years in that position.

The issue i have on these boards is people think that just because Spurs signed a player they will turn out great. Percentages say that a tleast one of our 7 new signings is going to be a letdown and so far without seeing Vlad and knowing the ability of Eriksen it is likely to be Chadli.

Let's have this discussion again at the end of the season and if he has been superb, i will put my hands up and you can use one of my comments to continue you internet love affair with me!
