Really?

Sandro didn't play in midweek, neither did slow man Paulinho, Capoue and Kaboul are being eased in, and Capoue did not look ready for Prem midweek.

The only ones being overplayed are Walker and Vertonghen, and that's due to our lack of Fullback options.
There was no excuse for leaving Sandro out today, he was not in the squad midweek and we have a break now.

Players need a run of games to get form and gel as a unit, but i seriously feel we have too many players for that to happen without player unrest. especially in the midfield and AM areas.
This was an ideal game to save and start kaboul and capoue. Not having that one bit. Ease in my arse!

Woah! Hold on a minute...:cautious:

The moment i saw the team selection i knew we would struggle....

Avb really needs to sort it out. Its so obvious what needs to be done.

As much as i would of LOVED to have seen Lamela start i knew he wasnt going to, it was the dropping of Sandro that got me angry. He came on 2nd half and was our motm which says it all.

Ive said before and i will say it again... Dembele and paulinho partnership at home just doesnt work at all. They both had such poor games. What they both CANNOT do which is absolutely ESSENTIAL in starting up attacks is passing the ball QUICK in the slots were eriksen is at or even the wingers. Dont get me wrong they have amazing attributes however the most key attribute for me as a midfielder they dont possess, which is quick decisive passing in the middle of the park.

Overall the whole team just could not perform. Eriksen does not look confident for some reason, townsend always keeps his head down and was poor throughout, siggurdsson was simply anonymous (must be dropped sorry to be harsh) paulinho was too stiff and made many mistakes. And whats even more crazy is that we HAVE the players to replace but avb is not seeing this

I honestly think if we started both sandro and lamela there would of been a different feel to the game especially after lamelas performance on thurs.

Also our tempo in the 2nd half was excellent which makes me even more angry to why we play at such a slow tempo in the 1st half.

AVB getting the majority of the abuse but:

He wasn't the one who lost the tackle on the goal.

He wasn't the one who didn't track the scorer.

He wasn't the one who could not put in a decent cross from the right.

He wasn't the one who missed a sitter.

Simplistic view but the same things happened v West Ham. Some players deserve more blame than they are getting.

I can take losing I really can. These kind of results happen. I accept that.

However we have been so boring all this season. The most boring I have ever seen.

For the young spurs fans and the new comers this simply isn't acceptable as spurs fans.

Change or get out AVB. Sick of slow and boring football.

If this carries on the spurs fans will turn very quickly.

that final substitution was shocking. we had them on the ropes, and Walker and Vertonghen were seeing a lot of the ball down the flanks. Walker was able to use his pace to threaten, but Vertonghen doesn't have any. The smart thing would've been to move Townsend left, so we now pace down both flanks, then shoot Sigurdsson and replace him with Lamela, so we'd have him and Walker posing a threat on the right.

instead, he brings on Defoe....so that we have two strikers and only one (inverted) winger. brilliant...

This.

I don't think Sig is creative enough to be played through the middle. If only he had some pace...

For Swansea he played just behind the striker and would have probably played there at Liverpool if Rodgers got his way. He's not going to produce a defence splitting pass but he's going to get in shots at goal. He's shown he can score from the edge of the area. At the moment I'd rather have Sig behind the striker, shooting at goal, drawing defenders to close him down, creating a bit more space for Soldado/Defoe and allowing them to feed off any spilled or parried shots. The guy's our top scorer in league open play and that's while being played out of position. Might as well give him a shot in the middle as the other plans aren't working particularly well.

Completely agree. I like Paulinho alot but did we really need him? Could've used that £17m more wisely imo. I feel like AVB has shot himself in the foot with some of these signings personally...

We spent big on Soldado, Lamela and Paulinho and none of them seem to be fitting the AVB system. I wonder if they were his choices?

I forgot it's international break time, we were a shoe in for a loss then. (they just love leaving us feeling shit for 2 weeks)

If only i'd remembered that when making my ACCA this week :(

:(

just gotta grit our teeth for the next 2 weeks. and hope it motivates the team and fires them up for city. at the end of the day, don't think we played badly, don't think we deserve to lose. sh*t happens... thats life. we need to move on. it doesn't get any easier for us, and the team needs us, all of us behind them.

Luck wasn't on our side, get over it and...

COME ON YOU SPURS!

Didn't see the game but have read through this thread
and I don't like the sound of it at all.
I didn't like it the last several times I read it either:
manager gets initial selection wrong; cocks up the substitutions;
they score before we get going; finally we dominate;
but fail to score; hit the woodwork etc; their keeper has a blinder;
various people are shit and should never play again;
Manager out.

We are going to have to stick with this manager, and this squad,
further changes will only cause even more disruption
and gel time will take even longer.
Quality manager, quality players, perhaps too many at once.
Year of transition2; said it from the start.

Too many changes to the line up.

Sigurdsson has too many quiet games to justify being in the starting X1

Paulinho was receiving the ball in our own half during the first half - what is the fucking point of that

Lamela plays well Thurs, Sigurdsson playes average and Lamela doesn't get a sniff of playing.

We are way off top 4 at the moment - think Bale papered over a lot of cracks last season

Have really supported AVB but today was a bit of a final straw for me - its just not good enough with the players at his disposal.

Also looks like we have bought another player than can't take a corner - Is there a worse team in the league for set pieces, its a fucking shambles.

Cannot believe some people are atill defending this shit we watch week in week out! I'm all for being positive but when avb doesn't learn from his mistakes something is wrong. Just because we pulled a few 1-0 wins out of the bag via lucky penalties doesn't mean we deserved to be 4th. Wake up and smell the shit that is our tactics! Dreadful dreadful management!!

It's his fucking job to put someone on the right who can cross the fucking ball

Did you think Capoue looked good on Thursday?

he was wayward with his passing often losing patience and lumping it to no one in particular and sluggish on the ball, also looking leggy after about 30 minutes.

Sandro doesn't get the respect his performances last season (and the one before) deserve for me. Was player of the season until he was injured and that's in the year Bale won everything.

There will always be a portion of fans who disagree with the managers team selection. When we lose a game like we did today the so called experts come out in force. Who could AVB have picked today that would really have influenced victory today? Using evidence that said player has done so this season. We've tried Defoe, Lennon, Holtby. It still ends the same way.

This so called best 11 doesn't exist yet.

No, I massively disagree with this train of thought. Its bloody well not people coming out in hindsight saying this and that, where have you been all week? Not only did loads of people express their disappointment that Lamela wasn't selected today, they predicted it would happen to. Ok, it may not have changed the course of this game, but we'll never know and the kid just had a fantastic game on Thursday evening - the confidence would of been flowing, and we so desperately need a creative spark who can break between the lines and pull opposition defences about. He did that on Thursday night and its something we've sorely missed.

I just think that's far too cautious in not starting him today. He's played for Roma and an International for Argentina FFS. When you make decisions as such and the majority of fans can see it would of been the right call to make and you end up with a negative result its inevitable that fans will highlight these things and it doesn't make them wrong for doing so either.

Yes, there's more to it than one player etc....but at least Lamela would of really tried to make something happen, and had the skill set to take on a deep sitting team.
