A lot of our problem is tempo - the possession football is ok but at the snail's pace we knock the ball about, defenders (and attackers) have all the time in the world to get back and crowd out our creativity.

The thing is, I actually think we tried to move the ball quicker today. Problem is alot of players seemed to either miscontrol the ball when it came in quickly or there was miscommunication and the ball passed in the wrong direction to where a player wanted to receive it.

Our fans are not penises..

Of course the majority are not, however we have some that are. You really need to read back through this thread (god help you though) and through some of our previous matchday threads to see how people conduct themselves.

We look like a team of strangers , don't seem to make out each others moves or positions , We have got to start taking these chances , we got out of jail again tonight but wont always .

I'd absolutely love to see a full training session or two and see exactly what's going on in them.

I just can't see any technical movement off the ball, everyone just waits in their positions for it. It's mad.

So desperate for more dynamism. Players need to be unleashed and allowed to flow more.

So much unused potential due to it being restricted.

We have scored 4 long range strikes due to individual quality. Still no attacking fluidity, flair or guile. Tonight does nothing to suggest AVB has fixed anything. Same old mistakes with the team he picks and same brand of dull, slow football.

The result is what matters right now. But long term it just buys this joker more time. No doubt the AVB fans will use this result as a statement of change...but it just isn't.

Agreed. 2 individual performances are what saved us.
Truth be told, I think AVB's days are numbered, Levy isn't blind nor is he an idiot, and any bloody fool can see that top 4 is not an option with AVB in charge, as any decent side would've beaten us today. Sure we played well against Man U, but man Utd aren't in the top 4.

Jesus, we spent a LOT of money over the Summer strengthening a team which was already strong and Top 4 strong and we should be whipping teams like Fulham all day every day. There is absolutely no excuse for having just about beat Fulham, and I mean just about.

Well when you beat them with your team I'll be more inclined to agree.

did u see the game in last tens since we scored second.. i suggest watching it again. all over the shop we were and everyone knew we would concede chances. we gave them every chance to claim a draw. we always always give teams a chance. proper teams realise how shit they are playing and see games out, we get lucky

I saw the entire game thank you. I didnt see enough to support the comment that we would give chances to an under ten team...

Yes our performances need to get better, but you know what, I'll take the wins first, and the performances second at the moment...quite frankly I'll take a win over a performance EVERY time

yes, he scored but I think he wasn't best. he made quite few mistakes. but i'd still start him against becouse Paulinho needs some rest.

His pressure on the Fulham defenders changed the game, and given space we all know he can find a good pass/shot.

Holtby changed the game, needs to start against Sunderland.
Maybe we need him to change games. Anyway, we could've lost or drawn. If we focus on the game - the momentum was changing constantly, neither us nor Fulham can say that they were in full control.
We need to control games, make the opponents tired, finish chances.

Looking at things away from a longer term point of view, rather than just this match, I don't think AVB is doing well tactically a lot of the time. There has to be an element of consistency to his approach to team selection. He needs to decide a team and stick to it. Its not going to do any good if we keep for example dropping Lamela and Holtby in and out of the team, Chadli comes in for the odd game then out again, ditto for Kaboul, Sigurdsson was a starter now isnt, Townsend, Defoe in and out again we assume... I could go on.

I appreciate we might want to change things around slightly for specific games, but not the amount of changes we keep seeing. How do we get consistent performances if we don't have a (mostly) settled side?

Yeah, they did play harder than they have previously this season, and to go there and get a win in those circumstances is great. A team who didn't believe in their manager certainly wouldn't have achieved that.

I think a lot of the frustration also comes from the (let's face it) extremely disappointing return we've seen from our summer investment so far. Big things were expected and so far we haven't seen anything like what we expected.

True, it's taking a lot longer than we expected. I think the problem is underestimating the magnitude of overhaul of the entire team's style and philosophy that Bale's departure inflicted on us. That, coupled with the fact we've practically got a new squad to integrate while all the other top teams have seen major improvement. Yes, I read your mind... 'what about United?' I hear you say... well, that just further bolsters my point that even a proven manager with the complete firepower of a globe-winning outfit at his disposal cannot instantly generate desirable results... and this is with a practically unchanged squad!

So what do you think then? Great performance? Good? Complete? We'd beat Chelsea or City or Arsenal or Liverpool like this will we? You;re actually HAPPY with what you saw tonight are you? And wouldn't want any changes? AVB was spot on in his tactics right and so was the team in all aspects? No criticisms then?
