It worked very well when we actually did it (Inter in the Europa League last season is the best example but there are others under both AVB and Redknapp).
The key phrase there is 'when we actually did it'.

Yeah, AVB was an utter disaster in his first season when he guided us to a point off 4th. Wasn't the right man for us in the end but 'disaster' is just looking at it without any perspective.
If anyone has time they should read a few articles in Poch like I did. I'll admit that I was quite anti-Poch in the past and I think I made some stupid comments a few weeks/months ago that I regret but doing your research like I did really helps
What is that whole "you used to be .... But your...... Now" about?
Am I missing something, has Pochettino been confirmed?
Yes he almost won the league with Pool not Swansea. Martinez won the cup but Wigan were also relegated.
I wish i was on this website when Harry Redknapp was appointed.
In many ways, this is quite similar.
We are in a rough patch where the next appointment we make could potentially make or break us, much like we were in 2008.
We took Harry from an inferior team, and the FA Cup fluke aside, had won nothing in his long career. He put a proverbial 'arm' around the player's shoulders and got them to believe in themselves and to express themselves on the pitch. Did he add any tactical input? Nope, none. Did he help us to break the stranglehold over the top 4 and take us to the champions league quarter final? Yep.
Pochettino has atleast shown that he is just as good a man manager as Redknapp, and he can get a team playing fantastic football.
And before somebody says 'but we played our best football under Harry' i know. But i feel with the likes of King, Modric, Bale & VDV, it was more down to the players and the way they wanted to play, rather than harry spending hours with them on the training pitch drilling them.
So, would you say Harry Redknapp was a better manager than Pochettino? Back in 2008, would you have taken Pochettino? I think most would say yes. Now, in 2014, would you take Redknapp? Most would say no.
So, why all the hate towards appointing Pochettino? Admittedly, FDB WAS my favoured choice, but now i'm all for Poch, and i'm delighted with Levy for choosing him.
Actually Celtic are terrible and he drew and lost to them. I'm no FDB hater or anything, but you missed those matches out.
I don't think there's 'hate' towards Pochettino. It's not like with Sherwood (or even AVB). I, for example, would prefer FDB (Ancelotti, actually, but that's just a pipedream) - but I don't hate Pochettino. I think most people are like that, and the same for the Poch supporters - they don't hate Frank.
At least for the first part of the season, I have the feeling that, no matter which of them is appointed, they will get the support of the majority of the fans.

quite surprised that people are getting their knickers in a twist over us potentially hiring Poch. Cant see what he has done that is so disagreeable.
Effective and eye pleasingly good football, over achievement with his club and good use of academy players, no? Nothing is guaranteed to translate from one club to another in football but they are decent reasons for giving him the benefit of the doubt for me.
Agreed. Unfortunately there's a few that have hyped Pochettino up to such an extent that the expectation levels will be much higher than they really should be.
