For a LB though you need to have pace because that's where the space is.

Blind was converted to a DMF because he's too slow and not agile enough for a full back.

Yep. It's also the reason Vertonghen gave for not wanting to play LB in the PL. I believe he stated it was because wingers in the PL are too fast and athletic for him?

Stats were brought up in an earlier post, I was simply going off of that. Fair?
By the way, Davies was also dribbled past the most amount of times of all defenders in PL.

Does that suggest that he is a shite tackler or simply that he is in position far more frequently than a lot of other full backs that have no defensive reading in their game but have better stats on dribbles because they can't get beaten when they are not in place?

This is the trouble with stats, they give some figures and not others and can paint a very different picture

My post with stats came due to a previous post about stats. That post was more in favour of Davies. So with your stance on stats, I take it you would dismiss them also when they are in support of your views? See my point?

I don't want anything to support my views mate. They're either agreed with, disagreed with, or downright thrown out altogether :(. I use my eyes to see if a player is good or bad, not some spread sheet full of numbers and percentages etc. That is my point (y)

And this is obviously a fair statement.

Bloody love that ITK! Glad we're close to Jamal and Davies; I think they both have great potential!
We seem to be focusing on the right areas (including LWF) and we have a plan going forward. Great!
Jan likely to sign New deal is fantastic news!
And I love that we're going after 2/3 young kids too!
Come on Rolf step back into your cell.

OK, well, fine. What I've seen, is a player I'm wary towards at this point. :bored:

Not into reading the players stats etc.. The game is played on the pitch not on paper. There are to many variables that happen in a game to depend on a stat.

Back to the thread: For me Davies will turn out to be a great signing at 10mil. I know nothing about the young CB linked. Can someone please enlighten me on him.

Bring on Saturday anyway I cannot wait to watch the first game of the new era

Of course we all want those big name, fancy signings-especially with what's happening elsewhere; but the refreshing thing about news like this is it sounds as if we have a long term plan under a manager-and an understanding that that success doesn't happen overnight, so we are willing to build something. I hope the majority of fans can share this ideology.

They simply have to as 4th is a pipe dream this season with the strengthening and money spending that's going on around us. The best we can hope for is to be in and around the mix and show our intent for the coming seasons and keep building slowly and strongly with poch (from the back - essentially), then hit the ground running in 15/16 with our players having fully absorbed our new playing ethos.

Our performances and evidence of us patching our weak points from the previous 2/3 seasons is what I'm looking for this season, especially. Consistent high level of performance.

Strong manager/philosophy/players + new stadium approaching.

I feel good about what the next few years will hold. It's an exciting time to be a spurs fan. (y)

Happy that we're building from the back. A few good youngsters, some improvements to our youth & that Lloris contract is all I need from this summer.

As for Ben Davies: some players just need a chance to prove they're worthy of a higher level. Gary Cahill took it, Hart took it after being farmed out to Birmingham, Baines, Henderson & Wilshere. More than happy to give him a chance.

And tbf if poch's given the green light, I'm happy. I trust his vision in building a solid/properly functioning back line to suit his system.

Exactly. It's why I'm happy we're not going to go and buy thirty players - the problem last year wasn't a lack of quality, it was a lack of management. Have a good pre-season with them, get them playing intelligently and we're sorted.

While I am not for us to go back to Caulker, are we sure Laschelles is better than Caulker ?
