I don't post often as I am generally browsing on my phone and suffer from fat finger syndrome, but I very concerned that both JJ and Gards have said that Capoue could be moved on if the price is right.

In my opinion not only he has been the stand out player so far this preseason, but is also ideally suited to the way that Poch is trying to get us to play. To me it seems like madness sell him when we have other players in the squad who don't appear to be a good fit for Loch's system. I just hope that it isn't a case of the money men caring more about recouping the cost of MS (if we do indeed sign him), than leaving Poch with a balanced squad that is suited to his system.

a little bit from jasper: I don't believe Capoue will be allowed to leave unless a crazy, crazy offer is received which not likely to happen. The media have it right about Sandro, Dembele are the likely two who is at threat 'when' MS finally happens. Knowing that things change admittedly that is my understanding. Let's hope that this is the case as Capoue has been stand out. I would also be totally shocked if Holtby is loaned out, as he is seen as an interesting player,

Something to hang onto. I am.

That might well happen; dembele more likely to survive though. Still can't visualize paul'o making it...and I've been trying very hard. Just don't think our style will suit him now.
The temptation is there to descend this into a formation thread but will show restraint! :censored:

As it stands, it's perhaps telling that speculation over those two has been surprisingly quiet - unless we aren't being given the full picture yet.

Dembele's future could be decided due to him being successful and being part of a World Cup squad. That idea makes me feel a bit ill tbh. If he'd not made World Cup, had gone on tour started next to Capoue, smashed in a couple of goals he'd be getting hyped. I'd be astonished if Pochettino has even got close to deciding on him.

I can only imagine that the club are taking a pragmatic approach regarding Capoue (based on Gards/JJ's info that we could sell him). Poch may rate him but wants Schneiderlin more. Therefore, in order to fund that deal, he would be willing to let Capoue go (if we get a sufficient bid). You can't always sell the players you mostly want to get rid of. In order to sell, you need a buyer willing to pay your asking price.

This just a theory and not necessarily what I would do.

Poch isn't stupid. He would've seen that Capoue has been our best player this pre-season alongside Lamela and he would tell Levy that he wants to keep him.

Anyone else get the feeling that Capoue is going to be a very very key player for us this new season..

I rate Dembele but I can see why he wouldn't be an ideal fit into Poch's system. From what I saw of Saints last year, they rapidly moved the ball from back to front. Either through quick passing or a long ball. In Schneiderlin and Wanyama, he also had two players who largely maintained their position.

Dembele is a player who runs with the ball and is not often quick to release it with his rather limited range of passing.

However, I would be disappointed if he dismissed Dembele at this stage given he's only had 5 or so training sessions with him. Proir to his hip injury, Dembele was a vital player in our team. If he didn't play, we didn't win.

Capoue is Spurs' equivalent of Scheinderlin for Pochettino imo
There's no chance he's leaving

This is somewhat controversial, but Dembele wouldn't have been able to play (in his fashion) had it not been for the excellent Sandro protecting his ass and covering the gaping holes whilst Dembele went wondering.

It could be construed as a dig, but Dembele mostly frustrates me & I'm often baffled by the hype from commentators etc. As far as I can tell, he's just a strong fucker who loses possession easily, then uses his strength to barge his way back into possession. Sorry :oops:

pointless giving everyone a chance if you then move on the players that have taken that chance so can't see it being capoue, pleased Jasper agrees.

What? Really?

That seems awfully anti-competitive? Freedom of movement of workers etc. Freedom to openly contract with who you like is a fundamental right you can't contract of, surely?

Surely?

Unless they've changed the rules recently, this is correct. I think the PL are very cautious against third party influences potentially damaging the credibility of the league. If a player signs a pre-contract agreement with a rival PL club, it could influence his mindset when they face each other.

I'd love for that to get tested in some form of court.

Isn't it because in a competitive sport you don't want a player formally switching his loyalty to a rival mid - season?

My concern is that with Napoli looking likely to sign Fellaini who does that leave that is likely to come up with the sort of money that would satisfy Levy for a Sandro or Dembele? They're top players and will be coveted to an extent, but the number of clubs who both require a player of their type(s) and can afford the amount necessary would seem extremely low to me.

Unless we offload at least one midfielder (at a decent price) we can probably forget about Schneiderlin imo. I actually think that when it comes to the crunch in the final week Paulinho might be the one sacrificed. Rep is higher atm so potentially an easier sale.

I like MS as a player but with Capoue looking superb at the moment do we really need to be spending £20-30 million on MS? I'm not so sure, I think there is a good chance Poch might decide that he already has what he needs in the squad and with MS's price seemingly rising every day, I'm not sure he is worth the kind of cash being talked about.
