Nothing like sweet revenge against those pikey pricks. Normal service resumed in us getting our annual 3 points against the pikey boys. Eric Dier will get instant hero status at the lane now.

I thought we defended much better today. Committed in tackles and blocks. Dier, Rose & Capoue stood out.

Resolute base which was nice to see. Think we'd have eventually been better in possession if it wasn't for the red card that rocked us a bit. But I was impressed with how we weathered the storm after the stroke of luck in Noble missing the penalty and didn't feel sorry for ourselves in usual Spurs fashion. No pathetic 2-0 loss today which was nice to see.

I think it also showed a tactical adaptability in Pochettino. We couldn't press as we'd normally like against a hoofball team and especially when we were down to 10 but Mauricio was flexible and opted for us to maintain our shape and gradually grow into the game, which I think we did.

I know the WC players are coming back ito contention but it must be a hell of a boost for such a young team to win there under the circumstances.

Wow what a day ! Couldn't make it up !!!! BUT... Until Collins got sent off we were 2nd best. And the naughton sending off was not the catalyst for this we were poor up until then as well. Noble and the other lad for them bossed the midfield, Bentalab was awful and completely over run, naughton was average at best and lamela well I want him to do well but until he stops flicking it in the middle of the park and until he stops worrying about getting kicked from behind he will not perform.... Lennon was also poor, basically the areas we all knew needed strengthening still need addressing and quick. The positives were Eric dier who never put a foot wrong, Hugo as per, and andros Townsend when he came on who was absolute class, he was a constant threat and they were petrified when he got the ball. We need a centre forward and quick, ADE is too hot and cold and when your bringing Harry Kane on to win the game you know your struggling! Sorry to be negative as I'm absolutely buzzing with the result, but it only papers over last years cracks although the togetherness was there for all to see.

Because modern

Because modern day fans think it is there divine right to complain at footballers that earn as much as they do in a week as they do in year.. well clap clap it's a totally different business & if you had there talent you could earn it,.. the other answer is they think they know it all & they didn't get the managerial appointmentment they wanted & there support is so strong that they would rather be proven right than support the club.

This, said it before.

If I ever say anything remotely negative about the players, head coach, chairman or club in general, I desperately, desperately want to be proved wrong - not will the club to fail just so I can brag about being right.

Lack of shots is worrying. Thought Townsend did well when he came on. We#ll see.

Happy to get the win though.

Didn't Kane play the through ball for the goal? What you're saying doesn't make sense.
so your happy with Harry Kane as our CFWD to come on and win us the game ? Did you go to the game ? He had a one on one that he didn't get out of his feet he gave it away 3 times and then played a lovely through ball for the goal which I applaud but nowhere near good enough for us if we want to kick on can you really not see that ?

Bentaleb awful?

We might not of created too much before the sending off but we controlled the first 15-20 minutes. They had a 5-10 minute spell before the sending off.

Its not that its papering over any cracks IMO, its just the first game mate. We need to be patient. Going down to ten men was never conducive to improving as the game went on either.

Harry Kane was also instrumental for the goal.

Early days and all but we showed great character today.

Totally, utterly, absolutely.

If Dawson and lennon stuffed my words about them up my arse I'd gladly sit down and eat grapes pretending that my jacksie wasn't full of my - let's face it, totally justified thus far - rantage at their inadequacies.

I'd gladly be wrong about a player if they prove they are effective and add genuine value to our aspirations.

Hands are always ready to go up.

...that's exactly what he did today so yes, why wouldn't you be?

...he's a young lad and not the finished article yet. It seems odd to focus on the small things he did wrong rather than the significant contribution he made to us winning the game. Why spend millions unnecessarily when we already have players that can do the job?

Yep its going to take time. As I said yesterday in this thread, I'm anticipating a slow-ish start to the campaign. We've got a new manager trying to introduce quite specific ideas and he still hasn't got the whole squad together.

As for today's game, I think I'm going to take the viewpoint that we were tentative and just feeling our way into things, and the sending off then somewhat ruined the chance for us to build on this and get stronger as the match went on. However it was a bit disappointing to see us not really pressing with intent etc before the sending off and we were a bit passive, when in pre-season its been the opposite. As I say though, hopefully first game nerves and its very early days.

Don't get people slagging off Nabil.

I wasn't a huge fan at first but he's shown great maturity. Not fantastic today but the kid is 19 ffs. 19. He's got 3 or 4 years of development in him before we should be expecting him to be the real deal, which is fucking ages.

Show some patience with the guy.

We did show character which made me proud but I want us to kick on, I know I'm being a little harsh but if we want to progress we need a bit more, I'm hoping dembele, jan and walker make us stronger but I think we are 3 short, a centre half a dm and CFWD, and re Bentalab he got run ragged mate, never won a header or a tackle and passed it sideways and backwards when he didn't lose it! He's young and he will improve but he got terrorised by a superior mark noble today!! If noble is superior what will the likes of Fabregas, Ramsey, toure and the like do to him ?it happened last year at anfield and at home to city and he was out thought and out battled today.

I thought he got better as the game went on, he isn't perfect with all that he does (particularly off the ball) and that isn't going to be miraculously fixed over night... But I thought later on in the game he stepped up to the plate, he had Eriksen alongside him who for the last 20 mins looked like he could collapse on the pitch and he seemed to cover even more ground and was the one getting on the ball and trying to make things happen.

Ok so your opinion is he can do the job, let's wait and see, I would love you to be right and prove me wrong... But let's see 15 games in shall we ? Sportsmans bet ?
