@Cheltenham Spur what do you dislike mate? I think thats a fair description of how Levy runs the club - responsibly, even if as fans we always want more/better players. You won't find anyone on this board who wants us to find a way to bring in Schneiderlin, Musacchio, and even a LW/striker more than I do - but when I sit back and look at this from a business perspective, and think about what motivates Levy, its hard to argue with the decisions he makes - by taking a fans emotion out of the equation.

Sorry. Didn't even know I'd done it till you tagged me.
As it goes I totally agree with what you're saying so have amended the rating accordingly. (y)

The position he plays is key to his system, not that MS is the key. I agree that having him would be great, but his system won't collapse without him, and we have decent analogues already at the club.

Not at you particularly, but there's an awful lot of emotional transference which goes on on this board at this time of year, where players whom the coach would clearly like to have, become absolutely essential in our minds, which then becomes absolutely essential to the coach, which then becomes a disaster when we don't pull it off.
Okay, well let's just say then that we would be more likely to hit the ground running with MS than not.

As far as emotional transference is concerned, I always hear that kind of comment in relation to opinions that are not in line with "everything is awesome". ;)

A few more "footballing" decisions made in conjunction with business decisions, rather than purely "business" ones may well have made this club a lot more valuable than it is now. It's all very well maintaining the status quo but unless you're prepared to take an educated risk and improve prospects, what's the point in buying a football club in the first place.
Well, to be fair to Levy, we took a number of calculated risks last summer. Given that those investments have not yet paid off, I can understand why Levy wants to see more from those investments before taking more risks.

Every business is about taking risks. The bigger the risk, the bigger variance on the outcome - could pay-off big, or could fail spectacularly. Generally speaking, successful businesses, over the long run, manage those risks. Its not always about no-risk, and I don't think Levy is about no-risk. I think he is conservative by nature, and want to slowly, and methodically, build a lasting foundation.

We are going to be short of cash-flow over the next few seasons when we have to play in a smaller stadium, so every dollar we spend now, is a dollar we can't spend in the next couple of years. We can't afford to overspend on players and blow the budget, when we know we are going to see decreased revenue.

Looks as though Vlad is off for sure according to my media friends.
And just on time Di Marzio has apparently said Roma looking to buy him for £6.4million. Levy's seemingly lowered his price then...

How people are happy to see "how we go" "give people more time" and all that bollocks is beyond me, when do we say right this is our time ? When do we say let's have a go at this and go challenge the big boys ? Let's be honest we are nowhere near those big boys and if they continue to get stronger and we continue to sit still we will be sat here in 2 years saying the exact same thing. I love peoples optimism on here but maybe a bit of realism would be handy ? Poch is good but he can't get the one player he really wants in ms, what chance has he got.

The Club has always had a five year plan. It began in 1985.

We know what happens here anyway. We JUST miss out out on our targets, we do ok until just after the window shuts then get a few injuries in key positions our strikers can't score and we have to consolidate until jan when we get a loan in ! We finish 6th or 7th and lose jan and Hugo and then we start the rebuild. Oh but at least we have a new stadium to look forward to. All too predictable
And add to this we'll prob sack the manager cos he didn't get us to the promised land of CL ( because we yet again didn't give him the tools HE wanted to do the job)

I have to admit that the sheer persistence of the Vlad rumor is beginning to worry me.

But perhaps this has little to do with Fazio or MM, and they see Dier as the 4th?

Said it before and i'll say it again. Two centre backs needed if Vlad goes. Leaving ourselves with a lot of work to do...

I'd prefer to spend the little money we supposedly have on one really good one, and go with him, verts, Dier, and a mix of kabs and that veljkovic youngster, or even our next best academy prospect.

Not crying over chiri, always had a careless mistake and another injury waiting to happen. I also think he's badly advised, recall his agent saying as soon as he arrived that we were a stepping stone to chelski. Baldini doesn't look good in all this though, does he, unless chiri was more avbs man. Hopefully now Broomfield is back he can unearth another gem...

I would guess that any ITK potential signing has been studied by Baldini or Broomfield for more than ninety minutes at the start of a season. You may not have been impressed with the player on Sunday but it is farcical to suggest that he's a busted flush especially as our new manager see's him as such an important player for his system.

Your last paragraph defies logic. Do you really think that Poch wants players at the club who "throw in the towel"? The players Twitter feed told you a month ago how he truly feels about still being at the Saints.
It has been reported that he has accepted his situation and has decided to continue play for SOTON next season. If that is not throwing in the towel I dont know what is. Plus, what I didnt mention before, why if he is the bees knees teams like Manu who have money to burn and who also need players like Carrick to be replaced ahve not gone for him? As I said I am not bothered.

Would love to know exactly what Vlad did to become persona non grata. Gotta be a non-football reasoning behind this

This is the propaganda that perpetuates mediocrity and lack of ambition. 'we can't spend because we'll do a Leeds.' Rubbish.

Agree totally.

The ultimate fate of Leeds was when Risdale took an advance on season ticket sales to buy players that they had no realistic chance of paying should they fail to make CL qualification. He may as well had flown into Vegas and put the clubs deeds on red 13.

Cannot see Joe letting Levy loose with that idea.

Perhaps A&C we need a scare mongering icon?

This just makes it sound as though Levy is more suited to running low to mid risk pension schemes rather than a football club. ;)
