This is what some of us have been saying all last season, and what Bobby's reaction during the City game told us. He is an intelligent guy, and on the most part (im not saying he has had his poor games) he has done well. IMO its been the system or the lack of opportunities that has troubled him. Bobby has never been a complete forward who creates and scores, but IMO hes a Spurs forward, he can play football, link up and finish (yes his confidence is low), MEH ive been a fan of his for years. If only we had him with Modders, Bale or VDV behind him, I think a lot of people would have a different opinion .

I've long maintained Soldado is a very good footballer, but he's not a No. 9 in the PL. If we're going to play 2 strikers we'd see a different player, but with one up against most PL opposition he'll continue to end up isolated and bullied out of games imo.

I, personally, think we'll sell him now or in Jan. No way will he work in a CM2 and unless he can prove effective in the 3 (where he has his best chance and can play anywhere across it imo) he's toast.

If poch tried him as #10 against limasoll at home I think we'd all be pleasantly surprised at his contribution though.
Do you seriously think anyone would give us near to the 17m we paid for him?? I just think we have bought a massive dud. Maybe loan him out to get his wages off the books ?? Naa. That ain't gonna happen. Gonna be stuck with him ambling around for the foreseeable future.

You'd like to think though that a £17m player was better than a 3rd choice No.10. I have seen nothing other than the occasional flick to suggest he's anything other than average.

Unfortunately though we have no one else in CM who ever looks remotely like getting a goal or running beyond the ball, so he'll most likely stay.

We may as well have kept Sig though. I'm sure he could do just as good a job as a No. 10 against Limmasol.
The good thing about Sig, he knew where the goal was.

And I know it's easy to rag on the negative crowd that dominated this thread in the first half, but everybody is allowed to watch Spurs in whatever way it suits them.

But how sad is that so many need the team to perform poorly in order to actually connect with the club. Must be an awful existence.

I think there are a few of those posters that probably hate Lamela more than ever tonight for ruining a good bitch session.

In the same way I suspect there were plenty who howled with delight when Soldado missed that sitter in the first half, then had to keep their celebrations muted when he equalised.

Where is @JamieDaCosta, anyway?

They did link up well in the the season matches. Lamela may be the key to bobby scoring in the EPL. Ade plays back to goal but with Lamela's vision, bobby can run onto balls and do what he did at Valencia - purely finish towards goal
I thought the same thing - finally in Lamela we have someone who has bothered to think about soldados preferred style... He is the volley king!

We need a manager, I know ur a Poch extremist, to commit to the THREE. For some reason we have had 3 coaches who all apparently have a "3 midfield philosophy" but seem to revert to a 2? Its actually WIERD!
I mean the attack supporting 3, not the mid 3 in a 433.

Poch has always played 4231 as far as I know.

I kind of agree...... but don't...... if we want on the deck football, with supporting attacking midfielders, he will score. He wont need to hold up the ball, which IMO he can do, he will interlink and finish. We all talk about wanting good football, the Spurs way but then demand a BIG forward who can do it all. If you want a player who will create and finish on his own why pay BIG money for playmakers? Bobby fits if used correctly IMO, 2 games in we haven't seen what Poch wants for an end game.

Wasn't someone willing to bung us £20mil for him a few weeks ago??

Townsend is going to be a very successful premiership player, either for us or someone else. He has all the ability, so if we can't find a coach to use him well it is a damning indictment.

One dimensional Defoe is no comparison.
Well when he has his brain transplant, he very well may.

Sorry mate I don't agree.
Playing Lamela and Eriksen with Bobby he will get plenty of chances.
I saw it the europa games last season.
Playing Townsend and lennon he will get very few.
Same with Ade, he doesn't fit with Lamela, Ade doesn't link up play very well, he takes to many touches.

He's done shit like that since he came here. Goes totally unnoticed by those who want to slate him for not spanking a goal in every game. The guy is total class.

And it's taken until Lamela and Kane have started playing for Bobby to have anyone else on the pitch with the intelligence to see what he's doing and take advantage of it.

On paulinho - levy won't sell him now when his value is at an all time low, so we will have to find a position somewhere for him. Poch managed to find a spot for much worse players at saints and make something out of them, so I'm sure he will figure it out.

Ball on the deck, intelligent fottball, he will score. I know its isolates but his Villa goal last sean was sooooooo simple but yet we don't see it enough.

He will be a successful premiership player, like Defoe was as well. But Townsend is textbook one dimensional to the extent that he makes Defoe look well rounded.

He can play across the 3 which is rotational anyway.

I think he could well become a contender if moved there.

I think you're very wrong about this.

Paulinho's position is undoubtedly the box to box in the CM2 with license to get forward and support the attack.

It's where he plays for Brazil for goodness sakes. He doesn't have the requisite trickery or pace to be an effective AM and I'm pretty sure we'll only see Poch play him in the two.

Unless you know better than Poch?

Rhetorical.

I agree that that's all we've seen so far of Townsend, but whilst he is still young, there is the possibility him to develop a footballing brain.

If by the end of the season we've seen no improvement in decision making then it would be best to sell but as a lot of people have pointed out, technically he's got the physical attributes.

If only Kane had pace, what a player he'd be.
