I don't thing anyone is suggesting for one second that this is Poch's fault.

The fact of the matter is the vast majority of our squad are very very average and vastly overrated.

We have gone backwards. About 6 years.

This is what happens sadly when you don't keep moving forward. We sell our best players all the time. Whilst other clubs invest properly.

Nothing to do with the manager most of the time.

For me it's not Pochettino or his style that's the problem, it's that a good chunk of our squad are made up of players with a collective footballing IQ of about 5.

If we can get rid of the brain dead and get in players capable of an intense technical style then Pochettino might just succeed. (It's this bit I really worry about.)

This is why I can't understand why so many of youngsters that did so well during preseason are no where to be seen.

I was really impressed with them, where are they, they filled me with hope.

Instead it went back to the same old players, doing the same old mistakes.

I will add Bentaleb is not ready yet I feel, cups and bench for now, consistently making big big mistakes almost every game.

Count the amount of black players on each team, and then you will get an idea on who is going to win. (The black players need to be exciting, though). (Like Balotelli, Sakho, Sturridge, Sterling. No exception here. I was hoping they would play Skrtel in defence instead of Sakho. When I saw the lineup, I kind of knew we would lose There are still randomness in the game, but in general, players like that will win a match. If you had one or two of them only on the pitch, we would have had a chance, though. This is all about having a sense for team building. Most managers don't have that. Rodgers usually use Skrtel in defence, but he wasn't even on the bench today. I guess he was injured, so he played Sakho instead. He was just lucky with that one. He wouldn't play him if Skrtel was available. Bad for us.

As Benny would say...

Apart from Mason who looked ok along side Capoue I can't think of any youngster that came away from pre-season have stamped a claim on a first team place or even a place in the first team squad.

I am suggesting it is MoPo's fault.
We have a fantastic squad. MoPo has selected the right team and the right system so far-but he got it massively wrong today.
If we get stuffed again it will be his fault.

The one that gets me is I thought that Holtby was tailor made for this system. A bit of guile and a shit tonne of work rate.

Could be worse we could have spent £300m on attacking talent and be losing 4-2 to Real Sociedad. ;)

The problem is, far to many of our senior players consistently fail to make the same claim...

I really don't see what we have to lose by playing players like Ceballos, Falque (I think he left)... At least they showed they had a footballing brain and linked up well with the likes of Soldado, Lamela and co.

Because poch isn't as familiar with our deficiencies as much as we are and has to see it for himself, that's just part of the process. Next summer is the key window, we'll be a powerhouse after that - solid throughout.

Gone for £4m.

I don't disagree that playing younger players that do have a football brain might help but the minute they make a mistake the knuckle dragging section of our fan base that boo at the drop of a hat will be all over them killing whatever confidence they might have had.

After having time to let the match settle in my head a bit I'm not really too disappointed. I just accept that Liverpool are a better team than us at present and we're in a stage of development, but I think we are still better than most other teams in the league even as we are now. The struggle now is getting to the level in which we can challenge these bigger teams or at least make it difficult for them which struggled to do. It's early days though under Poch and as long as we see good improvement I think I'll be happy come the end of the season (or at least I say that now).

I agree, but this way he's given levy's recent buys a chance and our regulars a chance to earn a place. After that no one can say shit to him. That's the way I'm reading it.

Either this is a bizarre fetish of yours or you have created this amazing troll-character and used him for years!

It certainly would have been a different game if Chadli had taken his chance. It would have been interesting to see how we would react. I know Henderson gets a lot a flak from opposition fans but you need a player like him.

If Balotelli had taken one or two of his chances then we would have been looking at the scoreline like last year. I imagine this was at the back of your players minds as you say. It looked like they were either nervous or just didnt know what to do.
I dont about on here, for me Henderson has been awesome for a season and I feel sorry for him how Gerrard gets all the praise when he has been shite at times

Indeed I was ashamed of our support today and with contrast before kick off, liverpool fans made their players feel like a million dollars after a loss at the etihad

I have just finished watching a recording of the match. Yes, Liverpool were better, but there's not a 3 goal difference. The penalty was silly and before Townie knew what was happening, he lost the ball and the 3rd goal. Also today the ball was not falling for us and with a bit of luck we could have had 2 goals.

The best chances in the first half were created by Bentaleb and I just can't understand why some people are picking him out as not ready for the EPL. The worst performers were Ericksen and Dembele.

Once the transfer window closes, and Pochie is certain the make-up of our squad, he'll make us as slick as Liverpool inside 3 months.

I bloody hope so.

It is not like expecting much this season, but I am tired of seeing the same brain dead players consistently having brain farts.

I was happy with today's team, I was happy... Okay, I would have picked Sandro over Bentaleb, but that is a moot point. I was happy, then same players doing the same old shit, after I put my faith in them again and let myself build my hopes up just a little bit...

Nothing wrong with pooch at all and I think his style of football is suited to this club, but the players need a serious upgrade and he needs to be given time.

I really think we need to release players the likes of Towsend, Kaboul, Dembele, Ade, Rose (Maybe), Fryers, Lennon....

Shit just realised... better not let SK see this post :cautious:
