I don't think they do in some cases, we haven't had good enough tacticians. Also I think we have had managers unwilling to rock the boat and kick serious arse, for some reason they have tried the softly softly approach. But saying that you get Sherwood doing the opposite and he gets stick as well. You also have to factor in what the board let the manager do and what he gets to implement.

I do think a lot of it is though that for all these managers who say they do long days at the training ground etc, too many of them don't have a great understanding and grasp of the game/analysis of it. They just get by doing what they know, stick to the same plans etc.

Does this come from, not backing our managers with time, support, the fact we change our first 11 dramatically every season? Expectations are to high and we don't have enough exp or leadership on the pitch ?

Also we seem to lack players who like going wide if Townsend hugged a touch line (either I am not fussed) all game we might have some space. I agree tactically we seem inept.

Tough questions!

I'd say the two main problems I have with recent years and our situation now is poor tactics from coaches, to go with disastrous squad building from the powers that be.

I think that was the first time I actually got completely fed up with Soldado. Until now I was a fully fledged member of 'Poor Bobby' but he looked like he couldn't be arsed today. Andros played well I thought but still lost the ball an unnecessary amount of times as he tried to step over an imagery pothole. But three points is three points (in case you weren't sure). Just hoping we can start playing some good football at some point. I can't remember the last time I really enjoyed watching Spurs at the moment, thought we had flashes of lovely play first half against City but that's about it really.

I do agree with you I just wonder why we have had 10 managers in a short space of time the levy years and all have a good pedigree, infact the man everyone gave a hard time for just being a man manager seemed to be able to get the players playing his way to system which suited them. But at QPR he is having a nightmare football hey.

(Oops forgot about pleat)

It's a bad jambalaya that we've got out there at the minute. We need about half a dozen changes into the squad (academy promotions and signings). Get shot of the slouches.

Oh well. Match won.

This from the UEFA competion rule :

7.05 If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of all the group
matches, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings (in
descending order):
a) higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the
teams in question;
b) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams
in question;
c) higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the
teams in question;
d) higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches
played among the teams in question;
e) if, after having applied criteria a) to d), teams still have an equal ranking,
criteria a) to d) are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the
teams in question to determine their final rankings. If this procedure does
not lead to a decision, criteria f) to h) apply;
f) superior goal difference from all group matches played;
g) higher number of goals scored from all group matches played;
h) higher number of coefficient points accumulated by the club in question,
as well as its association, over the previous five seasons (see
paragraph 9.03).

Now you work it out. I'm not in the mood !

Basically, in the event that we finish evens with Besiktas on points, goal difference and goals for and against, a 2-2 draw or higher score draw away to Besiktas will see us finish top of the group. A 0-0 or a 1-1 draw will see us finish 2nd.

Simples !!!
