I look at this just like Everton's deal with Lukaku.
It filled a need for them at the time and while some call it "developing another team's player" you are also selling your club to the player. When it turned out Lukaku was going to be sold he turned down a lot of options to return to Everton because he enjoyed his time there and was familiar with everyone. He likely would have never chosen Everton otherwise. Exact same can happen with Rabiot.

The "t" should be heard. It's straight forward, "Ra-bee-ot" (Like Ott in Otto).
Edit: Or maybe not? Now I found a 2nd source with the opposite.
