Best performance in a white shirt today. Broke everything up and moved the ball quickly. Him, Mason and Bentaleb all seem like Poch players to me. Agree with above poster about Capoue and Dembele being available. Doubt we can get one, let alone both out before the end of Jan but don't expect either to be Spurs players in September

Would be lovely to get Delph.

I agree with vincent 30 last November

"People seem to be missing the point. Stambouli isn't in the CM position to make 40 - 50 yard defensive runs after quick wingers etc. He is there to mainly intercept, break up play and distribute the ball quickly and efficiently, we even saw that he is technical very good with some of his movement around the box and quick passing / eye for a killer pass.

He's definitely not the fastest in 100m, but he is quick in the mind at reading the play and getting into the face of opponents over 10 yards, Davies was caught far too high up the pitch when we kept giving the ball away cheaply so he was exposed. This for me is a minority of his game and he should definitely get a chance to start with Mason the PL today.

He adds far more bite than Capoue, has much better positional awareness, watch Capoue closely he spends a lot of the game out wide near the full backs and not in the centre, so when we lose possession there is a huge gaping hole, it's shocking.

But the best characteristic of Stambouli is him telling the other players to press and get the ball forward, very vocal I noticed this mid week. Doesn't shy away from giving someone a few words."

Still not sure I like him much at all.

If you don't like him after today's performance you'll never like him. I thought he was outstanding today.

The highlights on both bbc and Sky showed about 7% of what he actually did. Anyone who watched his performance today couldn't have been anything but impressed.

Against Sunderland - probably his best game for Spurs in PL till now.

Having said that, I still dont think he is good enough to start for us but he would be ahead of Dembele though in the pecking order.

slowly and surely, with him and Mason and Bentaleb, this trio is giving us, in probably any situation, a solid central midfield we have long been craving for! really happy with that!

and somehow Paulinho seems to me will come of age as well to add that to the mix..

Definitely his best game in a Spurs shirt v Sunderland, he anticipated things brilliantly and was in the right place before things happened on a lot of occasions, couldn't really fault his performance yesterday in my opinion.

Fucking hell guys, I didn't realise this post was so offensive.

I guess now is the time for a Stambouli love in after one game where he wasn't completely pointless! Shite against Palace and Burnley away but half decent against Sunderland at home and all of a sudden hes off limits.

Didn't realise it was such an unpopular opinion, should've posted it in the amnesty thread!

It's instructive to visit Squawka and compare his stats for tackles, interceptions, etc with Schneiderlin's.

Again, it says a lot to me that Bielsa was hugely pissed off that we beat Marseille to this guy.

I watched the whole game, he was decent against a side who brought no midfield pressure, like how they allowed Dembele the freedom of WHL or when QPR came to town amd gave Capoue licence to do as he pleased.

One game doesn't convince me hes got the package required.

I thought he looked good on the highlights. Needs someone more progressive than Dembele next to him I feel but he is great at breaking up the play.

Agree, 3rd choice though, for me.

Jeez, no need to get so worked up. I agree he needs to show more but, if he plays like he did yesterday, he has a good chance of making it with us. Of course, one swallow doesn't make a summer, but surely you saw something about him you liked?

I think the issue with posts like yours is that we seem to be making a habit of writing players off far too early (like Kane) when we should be getting behind them. Also, it was one line, if you don't like a player, maybe tell us why. Is it his passing? Positional play? Dribbling?

Did my post write him off?

I'm just still not sure about him. Writing off is a pretty far cry from.that.

Fair enough big boy but the point remains if you don't think much of him after the way he played yesterday, your opinion is unlikely to change. He can only play against who he's put in front of, Sunderland are no mugs though. They hustle & bustle and he out-hustled & bustled all of them. Reminded me of Sandro's performances and it's the sort of performance I hoped Capoue would be putting in on a regular basis (and still might). If he carries on like this, he'll be excellent for us but of course he has to prove it in the big games too. But as with most of our buys, we shouldn't judge until the 2nd season at the very least. With Mason & Bentaleb coming on like they are, Stambouli, Dembele, Paulinho & Capoue are all gonna have to up their game to stay in the team and to be fair, they all seem to be at the moment, so it's all good for Spurs.

I need more positive contributions against teams that want to be combative in midfield and press the ball. Like Palace last week and Burnley before. I really don't see why seeing yesterday as an anomaly performance from Stambouli is so controversial. Give it a couple of standard Stambo performances to date and the consensus will change again I'm sure. There is such a thing as a positive knee jerk.

I think the problem with your first post, like many other posts on SC, is that there was no content. You just 'stated your opinion' that you don't like him. Why should we care, unless you tell us why? Making a negative comment abou a Spurs player (or any player, really) without contributing an argument is really just spam.

Positive knee jerk is saying something like 'OMG after his performance yesterday, he will 100% be the best midfielder since Roy Keane'. I don't think anyone's going over the top about him, just pointing out that yesterday, his performance was excellent & long may it continue.

The amount of shouts around me of 'well played Stambouli' and 'excellent Stambouli' throughout the match suggested the general consensus was that he was excellent, so seeing a post like yours after a performance like that is probably a bit odd.

You should be happy. We undoubtedly have the next Roy Keane.

Capoue was cramping his style v Burnley and when Dembele went off he improved today.
Good tackler, confident, skilful-passes the ball FORWARD and ...didn't get booked today!!
A bit like Sandro in that he gets booked because he gets carried away trying to look heroic in front of us fans (even more so because he is new to the club and probably wants to be more accepted/liked). He will grow out of that mindset and become an excellently rounded footballer I'm positive.

At 24 he can still get better, he's the same age as Walker who I hope will still improve. Maybe he's got one of those faces* that looks older than it is but I forgot that he was still fairly young.

*I don't mean as bad as the shriveled sack face of Diego Costa.
