Tottenham hand transfers control to manager Mauricio Pochettino ahead of planned summer revamp

Mauricio Pochettino has won his bid to have overall control over transfers at Tottenham.
No player will join Spurs without the Argentine’s prior approval - and any deals that can be done by chairman Daniel Levy will be run by manager Pochettino first.
Pochettino claimed last week that he wanted to be the man in charge of players coming in during Tottenham’s revamp this summer.
Levy, technical director Franco Baldini and chief scout Ian Broomfield have all previously been involved.
Pochettino, however, will now get the control he wants as he looks to offload their underachievers and bring in the players Spurs hope will help them into the top four.
He will work with Paul Mitchell, his former head of recruitment at Southampton, who was brought in by Levy earlier this season.
Levy is understood to be hugely impressed by Pochettino’s work so far and is willing to place his faith in the Argentine’s recruitment this summer.
As we revealed yesterday, the club want at least one more striker, reinforcements in midfield and at least two more defenders while up to seven players are up for grabs.
Former Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas, who was sacked in December 2013, has claimed that players were brought in over his head during his time in charge.
He said: “The chairman proposed a challenge to increase Tottenham’s competitive level, but immediately [Luka] Modric left and we didn’t get any of the targets I had identified, such as Joao Moutinho, Willian, Oscar or Leandro Damiao.
“These were promises that were not kept. I had a group of players I had not chosen.
"In two years, I lost [Rafael] van der Vaart, Modric, Bale, and all the promises made were unfulfilled.”
Spurs strongly refute the accusation, however, and maintain Levy worked with Villas-Boas and Baldini to land their targets jointly.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have joined the clubs monitoring Manchester City right-back Micah Richards.
Sunderland and Inter Milan are already interested in the 26-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season and is currently on loan to Italy's Fiorentina.
Richards would be seen as potential competition for Kyle Walker, despite the January arrival of USA international DeAndre Yedlin at the same position.
The club also have high hopes for 18-year-old Kyle Walker-Peters, who can play on either side and has impressed while coming through their academy.
