Is a goalkeeper really worth that much money though?

We bought him for what, around 15 million? I don't see that he's improved THAT much since we've bought him (he was quality then as well), and I think we could buy a quality replacement for around 10-15 million. If United paid us, say, 40 million for him then we could take 15 of it to buy a quality replacement and then 25 million to fund other purchases (like Martial for example).

Printing new money (TV deal ) leads to inflation.

Would we? Depends if you invest it wisely. There are a lot of good keepers out there. Buy 3 20 million players for the spine of the team and we should be stronger
It's not that simple though is it, come on?!

It doesn't work like that as we all know not all players fit in and crucially even the signings that do take time to bed in

Having a conveyor belt of talent that is indoctrinated in the philosophy of the head coach and the system utilised is the only way forward for a club like ours bar a takeover of obscene magnitude.

We will always attract a certain level of talent and we are still a fair way up the echelons of world football but there will always be bigger fish and if a protracted move for one of our players takes place from one of these teams then it's an inevitable outcome.

But maybe just maybe this new scouting system will get it right. Lloris if he doesn't go now won't be around for long

Almost wonder if this is a selling point of our club to young hopefuls...well if you sign for us and do ok Madrid or Man Utd will come callling look at Carrick, Berbatov, Modric, Bale

Of course it is, as it is for every club bar Barcelona, Real Madrid, ManC, PSG and Chelsea. We might Lloris lose because he wants a bigger club like ManU are losing DeGae because he does, like Arsenal have lost a shit load for the same reason.

Get over it.

Only Torres went to a domestic rival, and lets be honest Chelsea arn't even a rival really, they are, and were at the time, well ahead of Liverpool.

Name me a top player they've sold recently to a rival in the PL? ie a team finishing near them in the League.

Let's see what happens with Sterling then. Maybe Real, but maybe City or United. Cash will dictate.

Sterling to United? Never going to happen. They'd be lynched.

And City arn't rivals really. Last season was a freak for Liverpool.

Which probably explains the ITK that we are looking abroad - English clubs are richer due to the new deal whereas other nations aren't getting the windfall.
This could be the year that allows us to get the players we want in a decent market (assuming others don't put the price up accordingly!)

Sterling's agent is a bigger **** than Sky Andrew, Sterling will go where his agent wants him to go tbh, agent will do what is best for his fee not Sterling's career or reputation

When will people realise agents are not these all powerful puppet masters, they provide a service for their clients, the players, Agents do not make players go anywhere. If an agent says something in the press it is because the player wants him to, if an agent negotiates with a club or forces a move for a player it's because the player wants it. If agents did not do what was best for the careers of the players in their charge, then they would not last long.

Arsenal lost RVP to Utd, Nasri to City, both were crucial players at the time

Only because they had 1 year left on their deals. Lloris has 4.

De gea is going because he has a year left.

Sterling is all because his contract's running down.

No one with any intention of achieving success sells their best players voluntarily.

The meltdown on here has been astonishing. I see nothing that makes today any different from yesterday in terms of our position, yet some act like we've already sold him. As someone put it- 'he's as good as gone'- He really isn't. United haven't made a bid, there's little indication we would be willing to sell, and they haven't even got rid of their Goalkeeper yet.

Some people really need to get a grip.

Head in the sand mate.

This is escalating fast from a few weeks ago where he "definitely isn't leaving" to an acceptance from ITK's we will sell and quotes from the player specifically talking about the club he is linked to.

With Bale we were still expecting him to be with us next season at this point.

We will sell, Utd will pay and Hugo will go. It really is as good as done. :(
