Head in the sand mate.

This is escalating fast from a few weeks ago where he "definitely isn't leaving" to an acceptance from ITK's we will sell and quotes from the player specifically talking about the club he is linked to.

With Bale we were still expecting him to be with us next season at this point.

We will sell, Utd will pay and Hugo will go. It really is as good as done. :(
Iirc, you called it. Are you happy now?

The meltdown on here has been astonishing. I see nothing that makes today any different from yesterday in terms of our position, yet some act like we've already sold him. As someone put it- 'he's as good as gone'- He really isn't. United haven't made a bid, there's little indication we would be willing to sell, and they haven't even got rid of their Goalkeeper yet.

Some people really need to get a grip.

Lloris is openly talking about United's interest though, further still he claims to be monitoring De Gea's situation!

Whilst I agree that plenty of us like to dramatize, those quotes are pretty clear in terms of his intentions.

And, long experience tells us that we invariably deal in these situations - and if De Gea is sold its inevitable they'll bid. Modric and Chelsea was entirely different given the ill feeling between the Clubs.

Come on, mate. Would you really be surprised if he left? We've all seen this one play out multiple times. I was convinced Bale was staying all summer until he suddenly went missing from pre-season and that was the final straw, realising we'll just end up selling our best players. I'm pretty convinced Lloris will be off this summer, especially after quotes of him admitting he's keeping an eye on the United position.

I wish I could share your optimism but I think we've all been burnt too many times.

Just seen this LFC conversation;

"No, not heard about Ayre; he seems to struggle to close deals; would be ironic as he closes Milner and Ings from under the noses of Tottenham, FSG get rid"

I know there was ITK of a bid for Ings, but were we ever in for Milner?

I don't want to see Lloris leave, but I'd feel a lot better about it if we used the inflated fee to pay over the odds ourselves for once for someone we actually need, e.g. Schneiderlin. Still wouldn't sell him to United though if it was up to me.

I was expecting Hugo exit talk for most of the summer. Hardly a shock.

Even LESS of a shock in the week after the CL final, when every great player on the planet has been watching and thinking 'I want a piece of that.' In fact as the game kicked off on Saturday night this was my first thought - on Monday it will all be about Lloris leaving again. Yawn.

That may be for real, it maybe shitty paper talk but either way it was always going to happen. As has been said Lloris is a pro and supposedly happy where he is. I don't think it inconceivable he gives Poch another year, a 'first' year with his team and then go with his blessing next summer if we fall short again.

If I was Daniel, world record or not, I would resist this at all costs this window.

I don't think it's meant as they beat us to both players, but that they closed a deal for Milner and seperately Ings from under our noses.

I think people need to accept that at any time our players could be sold, and not to be shocked when they do. Rightly or wrongly, we have a financial/transfer model, added to our place in the football foodchain. You could actually argue that it's a sign we are doing something right, that we are helping develop players who get to a point where the biggest of clubs want them.

We've been told numerous times before that every player has a price. People should always keep that in mind. We'll try and keep them up to a point, but if they want to go and the price is right then its hard to keep them. I think ITK gets muddled at times... 'no way _________ is going' probably just means that at that point there are no clubs sniffing around and its all quiet on the (transfer) front. That can change quickly, especially when there is a chain of events happening and a knock on effect where one transfer then leads to another.

Basically, as I have said before and it isn't popular, people need to stop getting attached to individual players. We are a stepping stone for the majority of them, especially the half-decent ones. Our best bet, as has been mentioned already by a couple of people, is to get that conveyor belt of talent well and truly moving as its probably our best bet of consistently replacing those that do leave, getting players attuned to our system who fit in seamlessly, and maybe the best chance of players having a bit of affinity for the club and sticking with us long term.

It won't be a world record fee. Any deal will only happen after De Gea has moved to Madrid and that deal will be a bigger than any for Lloris

I don't think we've ever, ever had a transfer story for one of our big players not actually come true once these sort of rumours/press comments start.

It's as inevitable as the rising of the sun. Only ever a matter of time once this starts.

Levy refused to sell Modric to Chelsea despite incessant media pressure and even our own fuckwit manager saying saying he could understand him leaving blah blah, kept that summer and made him stay another year.

De Gea is in the last year of his contract. They either accept a fee for him now or lose him for free.

Does Bale still play for Spurs?

Does Modric still play for Spurs?

I'm not talking about rumours to specific clubs or specific deals - once these players start getting seriously linked with leaving, and start giving press interviews where they hint heavily at leaving, they're gone.

to be fair Bale was still there for another 2 seasons after that.

The only way I am game is if we bring in 3 or 4 players who are necessary and will dramatically improve our first 11, and having not seen any evidence of Mitchell and crew being able to spot these players, I am reluctant to sell. Don't want another 2013

I don't think it is that simple. Levy fought hard to keep Berbatov, Modric and Bale. Only relenting on two of them due to their contracts running down and the other one went for a world record fee that no club would turn down.

I believe Levy will fight again to keep Lloris in this case. There is no reason why he won't refuse to sell to a rival in Man U like he did Modric a few seasons back. And Lloris can't do anything about it.

Not sure whether you're suggesting that you'd understand selling Lloris to Man Utd or whether you'd be outraged by it? (Not a dig, but a genuine question as the first half of your post suggests Outrage and the second half suggests Understanding.)

I'd definitely be in the Outraged camp myself. You might be able to gradually catch the teams above you by selling your best players to them and re-investing the proceeds in new players, but IMO we'd get there a whole load quicker by not selling our best players in the first place.

I was talking about our ambitions for Spurs, not about Lloris at all. I thought I'd quoted the person who was saying that we should just accept our position and learn to live with being almost men.

For Lloris, I hope that we keep him he's great and I don't want to return to the days of feeding other PL teams. The stand we made with Modric and Bale should be repeated IMO. If he goes, he goes abroad.

Do we want unsettled players though?

Look how Berbatov threatened to score own goals unless he got his move, look how Bale faked an injury, look how Modric sulked and sulked, do we really need a barely motivated Lloris sulking around the place possibly unsettling the squad?
