I look forward to Spurs signing quality players but if it doesn't happen then so be it. We've finished in the top 6 for almost every year for the last 8-10 years and twice finished in the top four.

Compared to what we were doing for 20 years prior it's a massive jump, especially when considering our average net spend each season.

We can't compete with the top teams because of finance and prestige, we're not in the Champions League every year nor have we won anything considerable since the league in the 60's, FA and league cups don't convince star players to sign for a club.

We have a stadium which probably generates half the income The Emirates does for Arsenal so we're already playing catch up without even taking into account much bigger sponsorship deals the top teams get because they are in the top European competition all the time.

Playing one season of champions league football probably made us more money than five seasons of the Europa cup, now imagine the top four teams across each top league in Europe earning massive amounts of money each season. Spurs do well just to stay within reach of these teams when it comes to recruiting players and if we hear of players being close to signing for us only to for nothing to materialise it's something we'll have to endure at least until the new stadium is up and running.

Sorry for the long post but I think we sometimes lose track of how difficult it is for us to progress further than we are without effectively re-mortgaging the house and everything in it.

Just read the last three bits in SC ITK and thought I would pop in here to see if the usual suspects are having the ritual slitting the wrists thing and wasn't disappointed.

If you ignore the crap in the newspapers and SSN and just follow the respected ITKs we seem to be progressing as well in our summer deals as anyone could reasonably expect. Where it all goes wrong is when people take notice of the likes of Duncan Castles. His TA stuff is being proved to be a load of rubbish.

re the ITK: Salvio link does show we do keep targets away from ITK these days. Bodes well in support of JJs tweets I guess.

Can't say I'm any more confident in us closing deals however. Rabiot sounds like another minefield we'll end up walking away from in 3-4 weeks. Losing out on Martial doesn't inspire much confidence either.

So JJ might be positive re our targets but the true test is actually getting them through the door. I hope DL pulls it off and Poch gets his men by the start of the season.

All just talk and rumour though isn't it.
SSN are trying to boost their profits via Sky Bet by providing bull-shit stories, which results in people betting on the deals going through.
Even the woman that's doing the transfer rumour for SSN has tweeted today that United made bid for MS last week that was rejected, and that they haven't gone back with a new offer.

Apparently sky have sold off skybet hence the lack of adverts every 5 minutes!

I'd be happy with Rabiot. He's already better than most, if not all, or our midfielders. Probably would walk into our side. Likely Liverpool's and probably United's as well.

No Toby = happy yankspurs. Much rather promote youth than sign another squad player like him.

and do you really believe we would have paid Benfica's £35m asking price? Never going to happen.

Poch is being backed yet all the obvious players are getting ruled out day after day...

Regardless of how well some of last seasons signings worked out, it's now 2 summers since we went out and signed a 1st teamer who's expected to take us to the next level. All incomings have been cheap, even £10m for Davies (who doesn't play) and £8m for Fazio (squad player) is peanuts in today's market.

Agree about TA.

However people are really overrating Rabiot. He's probably more talented than Stambouli, but there's no way he'd start ahead of Bentaleb. He'd be to Bentaleb what Alli will be to Mason.

I don't think anyone is talking about him taking Bentaleb's place...

2 summers?? Oh you are including this summer? Come on, we need to get a grip on here, the window officially 'Opens' tomorrow, save the depression for an hour before transfer deadline

I'd snatch their hands off if that deal was offered to me.

If we're going to struggle to bring in a CM and/or a wide forward then we can't go far wrong with Benteke and revert to a Modric era 4-4-2.

Lloris, Trippier, Dier, Verts, Rose, Bentaleb, Dembele?, Lamela, Eriksen (drifting), Kane, Benteke

Carroll + Ade for Benteke is a no brainer. But Villa would want alot of cash too.

I'm not sold on Benteke though. I'd rather wait to see if he keeps it up this season, but i can see why you wouldnt want to wait. I'd mostly do that deal because it gets Ade off and also Im not sure Carroll will make it here.

That's a model that works though. It's the Ajax/Porto/Dortmund model we all talk about.

You don't sign players for the first 11, you just make sure your production line is in order so players continue to emerge organically.

Getting Trippier, Alli and Pritchard to challenge Walker, Mason and Eriksen respectively from below is doing this perfectly.

We just need players to do this for Kane, Chadli and Bentaleb

Which bit of droves of clubs have been signing players for 2 months is it that people don't seem to understand? Most of the readily available players have already been snapped up.
