I look forward to Spurs signing quality players but if it doesn't happen then so be it. We've finished in the top 6 for almost every year for the last 8-10 years and twice finished in the top four.
Compared to what we were doing for 20 years prior it's a massive jump, especially when considering our average net spend each season.
We can't compete with the top teams because of finance and prestige, we're not in the Champions League every year nor have we won anything considerable since the league in the 60's, FA and league cups don't convince star players to sign for a club.
We have a stadium which probably generates half the income The Emirates does for Arsenal so we're already playing catch up without even taking into account much bigger sponsorship deals the top teams get because they are in the top European competition all the time.
Playing one season of champions league football probably made us more money than five seasons of the Europa cup, now imagine the top four teams across each top league in Europe earning massive amounts of money each season. Spurs do well just to stay within reach of these teams when it comes to recruiting players and if we hear of players being close to signing for us only to for nothing to materialise it's something we'll have to endure at least until the new stadium is up and running.
Sorry for the long post but I think we sometimes lose track of how difficult it is for us to progress further than we are without effectively re-mortgaging the house and everything in it.
