I can't be the only one who doesn't mind signing Moses right? We need squad depth and Moses is probably a quite cheap option that we know can handle the PL and he is still quite young so he might yet become better.

Well , with Moses up top , Christian in Midfield .....and Jesus on the bench.. Its gotta help (y)

I can just imagine.

Levy - So Poch if you could have one player to help you win the league who would it be?
Poch - Only God could help us win the league.
Levy - Hold on a sec...

Levy - Ok. We couldn't quite manage God as his wages were a bit high. But I did manage to get you Moses!

What scares me about the Moses interest is not that he's a terrible player, but that the club isn't trying to do better...

I will reserve judgment until the transfers are actually completed, but things do not seem to be moving in the right direction.

Exactly the kind of player our youth system is supposed to produce?

Buying average to fill squad places should be a thing of the past. We need to buy real quality if we want to compete and keep the likes of Kane and Lloris at the club.

For the 3 behind the striker we have. Townsend, Lennon, Chadli, Eriksen, Pritchard, Lamella, Yedlin. Oduwa, Onomah. We go any deeper we will strike oil.

Pace cannot entirely come from the fullbacks, as that's part of the problem, as it makes you entirely too predictable then and easy to contain. This concept of "wingers must always cut in and the fullbacks provide the pace and width" makes us easy to contain for a 14 year old whose only concept of football is from FIFA. Fortunately, I think Poch has recognized this problem from his comments after the Leicester game and our link with many wingers this summer.

I agree with the rest though, as we clearly would have been fucked without Kane's contribution, and you're spot on that the problem is time from transition forward. However, much of that comes from timidness, and we need more aggressive pace to drive forward. The time it takes us to get forward on average is quite frankly the most embarrassingly slow progression I believe I've ever seen at the Prem level. Absolutely must be fixed, and we absolutely must become more unpredictable if we're to stop dropping points so easily to sides below. We are never going to "outgun" the sides above us with more quality, so our hope is to be more balanced and unpredictable, less easy to contain, and consequently more consistent.

But as for the topic, no I don't think Moses is necessarily the answer. Nonetheless, this problem must be fixed if we're to have any chance of pushing forward. A club of our level should be nowhere close to having the slowest winger stable in the league, and that is unfortunately what we have unequivocally and without question.

Pace is easy to contain. That's why Lennon has created fuck all for five years. It's intelligence that's hard to contain and if it's married to pace it's even better.

Anyone else sick of this 'well if Mitchell wants him' line.

You don't have to be some acclaimed football expert to know Moses isn't of the quality needed and never will be.

He's strong, quick and is a decent footballer. So long as we bring another attacker in I'd be happy enough with him, he's a good like-for-like with Chadli, who may need to help out upfront this season.

It'd be a little underwhelming as a signing but I certainly wouldn't rule him out as not good enough, my main concern would be his attitude. If he wants to come here and work hard then great, we've picked up a decent player.

I don't expect even half of those to feature in the side this year and the only competition that faces Moses if he would sign is Townsend, Lennon, Chadli, Lamela and Pritchard since he would play on the wing. Lennon is expected to leave, there have been rumblings about Townsend and Pritchard is unproven in the PL.

Do we have anyone in the youth system that is ready to step up? I'm not aware of anyone. If we don't have anyone we can talk all day about what the youth system should and shouldn't produce but it doesn't matter in the end.

Stambouli is on his way to PSG and City just bought Delph. Everyone buys "average" players to fill out their squads, even top sides.

But whatever, I can sense how this discussion is heading off topic already so I'm not going to continue the discussion after this reply.

Oduwa and Onomah have started both preseason friendlies so far. Oduwa has been the stand out performer so far. Mason did it last summer and got into the team.

There is no point in having an academy if they are never integrated into the squad. I am not saying for them to be starters but 3rd choice isn't to much of an ask, especially if it saves us £8m.

Against Southend and Reading that is and the whole squad isn't even back yet. I wouldn't draw any conclusions from that.

If we have someone that is ready then that is great, I'm not against it, I'm just not convinced that we do.

This is going off-topic so I'm not going to post anymore regarding this.

Someone once said that when they were busy they just scrolled through the thread and read the "informative" posts.
Wonder what kind of day they are having?

I had a midday drinking session with work which ended up in me singing "oh when the spurs" at the oval. I don't even remember there being cricket.
I hope it wasn't the Ashes you went to see...cos they're playing that at Lords.
Maybe that's why you don't remember there being cricket!

PSG and Man City. Teams famous for throwing money at a problem rather than giving their youth a chance. I had hoped we were heading in a different direction myself.

Nathan Oduwa has the right attributes to play LWF. Give him a chance rather than waste 8m on an average player.

As a talented young player I'm sure it's frustrating being stuck behind others, but you can understand it when they are top-level pros. If the club start blocking your path to the first team with the likes of Victor Moses then I'm not sure it's quite so easy to understand.

Oduwa might be a shout for a wing spot (and is training/playing with the first team pre-season), but he's still a long way off Moses in development at this stage.
