Without doubt, but in reality we're not going to be signing anyone who wants mega bucks wages, and I'd expect we'd be able to cover the wages of any of our targets already. He will hardly command much of a fee, so I really don't think it matters all that much.

True on all accounts. Ali Z did confirm the obvious in saying that Levy has a budget for wages.

However, I imagine that budget doesn't expect to have players on it that the club has earmarked for loan, so when he says if we shift more deadwood in addition to the amount we have already, we could have the ability to make a bigger splash than expected.

And what do you think 'mega bucks wages' would be? If you're thinking anywhere over 90k/week, I wouldn't hesitate to agree, unless a truly special player became available, but that wouldn't rule out some of the other eye-opening names that have been bandied about around here.

I don't think we'll be looking at paying any new players anywhere near £90k pw. I don't see us getting more than two more players in, and there's likely to be a couple out. We're gonna be under the budget whatever happens.

This reminds me of how I play on FM, I start the transfer window selling off some unwanted players, release a few youngers, then integrate some youngsters into my squad to fill the home grown ruling, then sit with a smile on my face as I see our wage budget way down, transfer budget bursting and a squad of young home grown players.

Then someone like Reus or A.Sandro gets transfer listed and I blow my budget. ITS A SIGN PEOPLE.

But its pleasing to see our youngers are all getting contracts, I really hope we give them all game time this season in the Europa/Capital One Cup. Then see how they get on and maybe they will do a Mason and break into our prem team.

Spanish and german clubs seem to have no trouble integrating young players into their squads i don't see why we can't.

We won't get McCarthy, and before anyone starts that's not just me being pessimistic. Being Realistic and looking at the situation it just isn't possible to do. Especially now Chelsea will inevitably get John Stones.
Saying you're not being pessimistic doesn't make the content of your post any less pessimistic.

What you perceive to be 'realistic' is just your opinion, and your opinion this whole transfer window thus far has consistently been pessimistic.

You don't know what Everton are thinking, for all the we know, they may see a combined fee of around £60m for Stones and McCarthy as a great way to invest in other areas of the team aswell as replacing those that they have lost. They have next to no squad depth so in my *opinion* i feel they could be tempted to sell those 2 to improve their squad as a whole.

Unless you know, you don't know.

Surely we'd be better off loaning those youngsters so they get a proper season under their belts rather than sitting around waiting for the occasional cup sub appearance?

Problem with that is that a couple of injuries means some of the seniors are then playing matches every three days. It's a balancing act but we have to make sure we are covered this time round.

A little more to add from this mornings update re Ade..... Tim is very one eyed regarding Ade atm and his Benteke replacement list is basically only one name long. This is great news for us, and for Ade, but no so much for Lerner and more so Fox who would rather a loan with a possible clause to make permanent in January. We obviously would prefer a perm arrangement now. There is interest in Carroll and also another one of ours, but unlikely they will be part of any Ade deal as it is just too complicated financially.

As far as incomings are concerned if things go to plan, then don't expect any surprises.

Hi Trix,

Not a Q&A as such, but I cant read the last line properly. What does it mean? I'm probably being stupid

I'd assume Townsend is the other.

Also with homegrown players rule being heavily enforced in european competition it is something we need to be wary off if we want to compete. Man city for example have heavily invested as much as we have in creating a new academy/training centre and they have high hopes for a lot of their youngsters.

We recently had a good heritage in under 21 competitions as well, it's a resource we should be using rather than keep letting players leave, other wise why have it.

It means that we are not looking at any "big" or "secret" names beyond the names already widely discusses IMO. Down to earth, boring but predictable signings. Nothing to fancy. Like a nice bottle of Waitrose Prosecco when you are secretly dreaming about boutique champagne.

If what trix is saying is correct about no surprises, I am seriously underwhelmed. I do not expect big names but big potential purchases.

Didn't The Goat say that we might make a quick signing if Adebayor and Stambouli left this week? That seems to suggest that there's some kind of issue if he stays.

Njie, Werner etc....they have huge potential, and they've been discussed in here.

If we got either one of those, particularly Werner, I'd be delighted.
