And we've been linked with several players with big potential

Depends what surprises means as even though we've been linked to McCarthy, N'Jie, Rabiot, Werner etc it would still be a big surprise if we managed to sign them as they're either expensive or highly sort after.

If it means anyone we're linked to, that could half the footballers in the world. I'd imagine it's ones we're getting strongly linked with.

Considering our usual dealings, I'm excited for deadline day announcements of McCarthy and Moses

EDIT: Side note: I'd be okay with Moses as long as he scored against the scum/liverpool/man utd so the headline the next day could be "Moses parts the red sea"

Randy Lerner vs Dainel Levy

One is so shrewd he made Lyon's Aulus cry like a baby. The other has wasted his father's credit card fortune on sporting investments that strain the idea of both the terms "sport" and "investment"

I'm liking our odds

I don't know what some people expect we have been linked with some exciting young talents in Europe and have tied up all our youngsters and kept our star senior players so far as well as getting rid of the deadwood we so often hammer levy for not doing window upon window , even taking hits in transfer fees and yet we still piss and moan honestly I can see why other fans think we're so fickle

Ugh. Why dont we just accept a loan with perm option in January if thats what Lerner and Fox want? If Villa cancel the loan then because he's a schmuck, we can just cancel the contract and send him packing. Either way, Ade fucks off! Win/win!

Because It's Randy Lerner. A man that proves that nominative determinism is utter horse manure. We play our cards right and we might might still be able to package Adebayor with Anthony Gardener and Huelermo Gomes and make 20m in profit. If a fool and his money are soon parted, then isn't it our responsibility to appropriate said fool's money? ;)

Why would we just give in to their demands? Apparently he's their main transfer target, there's only two weeks until the start of the season and they've only got Agbonlahor as a recognised striker now (assuming Benteke joins Liverpool). On the other hand we've got until the end of the transfer window to sell Adebayor so don't need to force through the sale in the next ten days.

JJ on Tom Carroll situation/if he is part of MoPo's plans:
bit unfair for him to put it on Twitter

Not entirely sure what he means...

"No surprises..."

... so we're selling our best players without having enough time to replace them.

Good stuff. Order restored.

Au revoir Hugo!

Later Harry!

Sayonara Christian!

Hola whoever is the most Darren Bent like signing we've been linked to.

Probably means Carroll is weighing whether to stay or go and that as of now, he's not really in Poch's plans, unfortunately.

Your quite right to spot this style of progression, but this style has ben with us for some time now. We buy potential and this sometimes turns very profitable in a business and footballing sense, sometimes not.

We rarely buy instant upgrades, or world beaters - can you name a few?

I think we can always take transitional years because what is the difference ? Between 5th and 6th place ? I cannot see teams below the 6th spot, such as Swansea, Southampton, ...Stoke ? Challenging us. But what your saying is, is that it is another year of not breaking into the top 4.

This can likely happen with an aggressive transfer tactic like Man Utd are employing this season, and Liverpool to an extent. This means spending a lot of money on known talents - but hey this might not work out but the losses are much bigger. You can say that we might have learnt from when we did this with the Bale money. This transfer strategy is safer. I think it bolsters us to Remain in the fight, and at least qualify for Europa - not the end of the world, as has been for most of our recent years. Remain and maintain.

However if for whatever reasons things dont work out transfer wise we don't lose out that much at all, the risks are smaller - with more burgeoning talent to hopefully step in like last season and fill our weaknesses - progression might be Slower, but it is safer and more steady IMO.

I agree with most of that but I actually think we're in a much better position than most people realize. We're all so hung up on transfers that we forget that we're likely to start the season in a very healthy and stable position. Pochettino, with a season behind him, has been be able to shape the current squad to his liking. I think that's a hugely important point, and by removing the unwanted, or more disruptive types, he'll be able to cultivate a happier working environment for everybody - including himself.

Also, it wasn't until well into the season before we saw Kane, Bentlab and Mason all starting. That nucleus starts form the off this time - another huge advantage when looking at last season.

Don't get me wrong, we do need a few ins. We need some pace for advanced positions and an experienced option for CM, but failing that we look in great shape.

Clubs like Liverpool, direct competitors, have spent a lot and added some proper quality but as we all know there's never any guarantees and it can take time for it all to knit together.

Added to all that we've got such fantastic talent coming through and Pochettino won't be afraid to use them if he feels they're ready.

If we can just make a few key signings that will address those areas for concern it will be one of the best windows for a long time because it feels like the manager is being backed with a clear and discernible plan.

A dm and a forward. We've done OK but I wish he would have tied up one of those by now.

So, bearing in mind I've seen his name mentioned here often, have we actually had any ITK on Werner, or is it just cabbage/wishlist related speculation?

Serious question.
