Saying you're not being pessimistic doesn't make the content of your post any less pessimistic.

What you perceive to be 'realistic' is just your opinion, and your opinion this whole transfer window thus far has consistently been pessimistic.

You don't know what Everton are thinking, for all the we know, they may see a combined fee of around £60m for Stones and McCarthy as a great way to invest in other areas of the team aswell as replacing those that they have lost. They have next to no squad depth so in my *opinion* i feel they could be tempted to sell those 2 to improve their squad as a whole.

Unless you know, you don't know.

We need a 'you speak sense rating'

I'm so far happy with this transfer window, even if none of our main targets from now on are accrued - I am happy to see how Poch handles the potential of these youngsters, even if it takes another season to get on par with the big boys - considering their large summer investments.

How much do we actually have from sales as of now? Including all outs this summer minus the amount from the 3 we've bought. Not much there is there?

We are currently £9-10m in profit

However Lennon and Chiriches, and maybe Soldado and Dembele are our only major sellable assets left. So we'll struggle to afford say 3 x £15m players.

don't forget Townsend around 15m

i'm very happy we managed to get 1 area that really needed sorted out, our defence. with Jan and Toby ex team mates before should bring in an understanding to the central side of things. hopefully with a new DM in we can reduce the amount of goals against us. would be great to get that position sorted before the US trip, though i'm sure Toby can play DM if required (though would hope he and Jan start their partnership asap)

I agree we need a C/F and W/F that has pace about it, and just hope our targets are not taken from us before the medical.

great to see all our promising youngsters sign contracts, and really hope they get their chance to shine in cup comps, and in some EPL matches to save burn-out

Furthermore... I think you need to think more about wages than the transfer fees.

As long as players retain their value the fee isn't so important as you retain the asset.

Pretty sure an ITK has backed this as well.

Don't think you need an ITK to verify that. An accountant would be better placed ;)

Eric Dier played cm today. Can tackle, can pass, can score. Is free and we know he'll join us (he already has).

Interesting.

Distribution of possession? I mean it is easy to pass to next player nearby..... Not being critical but is important when u counter unless every ball is recycled thru Eriksen which makes it predictable.

I'm sure he does.

But he certainly has his moments of panic. Frazier Campbell, Rasiak etc.

The most promising thing about this window is that we've got a lot of the nonsense out the door early, and we've got some great youth players meaning we shouldn't have to panic buy.

For example, whilst I don't want Onomah to be our first choice attacking midfielder, I'd rather we went with him than making a deadline day move for Matt Jarvis...which is the sort of thing I could have seen us doing previously.

Do you remember his ball to Chadli for the 2nd v Southampton?

Jesus wept has it really come to that when people are accepting of the possibility of Dier being our CM/DM .... nothing against him he is a useful versatile defender but come on ffs. I swear Levy could continue not paying the going rate for quality players and out of spite MP could stick Lloris in the centre of the pitch and some would still suggest it could work.

Another example how much we are lacking a defensive midfielder to screen our back four. Playing a good centre half there that gets shifted to right back coz he isn't the best centre half at the club and now gets stuck in midfield coz we have better right backs! Square pegs and round holes. Get a good DM a good wide player and cfwd and we can approach season with optimism. Fail that and we fail again.

Did anyone else see Jasper's last post on SO

The Ghost asked why don't we just sign Bolasie

Jasper responded, "Bolasie would cost over 15m"

I feel like that's not ITK as much as just Jasper saying it's a ridiculous amount that we would never spend on such a player. Kind of much like anybody here would say. But I don't want to ignore something that might be relevant.

So did anybody else read it? And did they feel the same way?

So true ! Give it 8 games in and then (when it's too late) we start asking about our shortcomings in the transfer market. Deja vu

Come on Happy, ITK has no place in the 'how we'll line up in midfield' thread.

If Dier can fill the role I'm all for it. He deserves to play.

... he may well do but not in CM and what do we deserve as paying fans, paying something like 2nd/3rd highest tickets prices in the richest league in the world? Certainly not a dysfunctional side with round pegs in square holes.
anyway won't happen .... will it?

Trix says to expect "no surprises" in our transfers in, does he? So we're getting some bloke called T(h)om from York(e) City. And then we're going to nearly drown him by making him wear an astronaut helmet which we'll fill with water.

Think Trix's source may be a tad off the money on this one, chaps and chapesses.
