He needs a fresh start...

... either with a new team, or we start using him differently. Throw him into the middle, drop Christian out on to the left flank, see if we can get a few performances out of him.

Or we just keep flogging away at trying to make him the inverted winger we thought we'd signed.

Either way. It doesn't look good. And I'm an absurd optimist.

I thought towards the end of the season last year he started to be more consistent and was one of our better players. The guy as obvious talent, and i think whoever unlocks that at a consistent level is going to get a very good player on there hands.

I think that club could still be us. But on the other hand i can see why maybe why we would let him move on and i understand concerns he isn't suited to the premier league. I mean he ran burnley ragged at home, and someone brought up QPR, so he has shown he can do it. I also feel he does a lot of work that gets unnoticed in the same (pressing, ability to find a special pass, but i guess the type of ability he has, you want him to go past players all the time.

Agreed. There's clearly a good player in there. The way people are talking at the moment it's like he walked onto the field, violently shit himself and knocked in three own goals before getting his cock out and presenting it to the referee.

How does playing well against two of the three worst teams last season show he can do it in the premiership?

They weren't the only sides he played wellish- against. As i said earlier, towards the end of the season he seemed to me, one of the players that shone amongst the rest. I seem to remember his (handball ;) ) goal against southampton capping a run of decent performances for us and opinions on here being relieved that he seems to be getting into his stride.

As for QPR, burnley, maybe poorer sides, but they are still premiership teams, and i think as many teams will find out throughout the season there won't be many easy games. Only sunderland at the moment look hopeless.

Thought I was the only one that noticed that Saturday

CORRECT

Got a run in the side and his performances were improving. Strangely Poch then suddenly dropped him:wideyed:

My issue is having never seen him play I took the majority of peoples word on here who had...who basically said he could be as good as Bale...so I had high standards. After seeing him enough over the last couple of seasons he is not even at a Kranjcar level and for 30m that is appalling.

£16 million is pie in the sky - 16 million Euros would be more realistic. It's irrelevant what we paid for him. Personally I'd sell for 16 million Euros and reinvest in someone with a bit of pace and strength who's gonna make a difference on a weekly basis. Yes, Lamela can find a pass, but we have an abundance of pass finders - Eriksen, Kane, Mason, Pritchard, but we have a shortage of pace and power.

Read a quote here the other day that said he, ''looked like an over enthusiastic fan who'd won a raffle for a place on the team.'' Summed him up in one sentence. Great work rate, nice guy, just not a particularly great footballer

We've given him two seasons to show what he can do. He was out for much of the first but even towards the end of last season we weren't seeing any improvement in his overall performances or contribution to the team.

Time to take the money and let him go.

All day long. Clearly not a fit for Tottenham or the EPL. I think he'll go down as our all time worst transfer.

The lot of folk on this site who are jumping up and down about a poor substitue performance from lamela are doing my head in. Give over will you please and try giving the lad a bit of support instead of baying for his blood every time he has a poor game. It was not his fault we drew against Stoke.
You're right. It wasn't his fault. It was a collective effort. He was still shite though. And has continued to be shite for pretty much 90% of every game he has played.

For someone who came with such appeasement from alot of knowledgable posters on here I was really looking forward to him coming. But so far. He hasn't shown me anything that suggests he will make it here. I don't like selling players with potential. But for me he is just a luxury foreign player who won't cut it in the premier league.

The club will be making this decision for real next summer, when he'll have 2 years left on his contract. To offer him a new deal (which would doubtless be a significant financial commitment), or to hoist the For Sale signs before he gets to that final contract year where his value diminishes by the week: that's the question that Levy will be asking himself at the end of the season. Whether we stick or twist depends on whether Lamela can step up on the pitch during the coming months, and IMO he's got lots to do to stop us putting him on the market next year.

I think if we can get £15m+ then we should. I like him, but it's just not going to work here. He's not got the pace to play out wide in the prem and it doesn't look like he's gonna get a chance to play through the middle.

Could get Yarmolenko with the money and have some left over.
This. Selling Lamela and bringing Yarmolenko would massively improve our 1st 11.

On a pure value for money assessment you can't be anything other than right .... the only thing that can stop this is if he goes for close to what we paid, which ain't going to happen

Its not just his performance while coming on in the Stoke game, he has pretty much nothing in two years. Especially in the League.
