Mason did well...... But he is not good enough to start for us if we want to push on. His misses summed him up in this respect. Any of the 'top four' midfielders when through like him woulda have scored.

We've seen a fair few of those down the years!

To be honest, I'm hoping we get more fire power in so we can kill games off better. How many games did we win 2-1 last season, on a knife edge a lot of them...not to mention last minute winners.

Honestly, today encapsulated what we're about these days - when we're playing well that is - controlling the majority of the game, which we did - bar the first and last ten minutes, we bossed it, created chances, some absolute glorious ones, and we can't take any of them. I think most sides in the league would of had at least three goals today on that basis.

We need to be more ruthless when we're playing well, that's a massive part of it for me.

Son will hopefully go someway to improving that, but another quality forward in to share the burden with Kane could have a huge bearing on how our season unfolds.

I know a lot of people on here want a defensive midfielder, but for me another quality striker to help Kane is a much bigger priority, especially as Dier seems to be getting better and better in the defensive midfield role.

Sorry disagree , at least he gets into the positions , lampard missed loads of chances at the start of his career and he turned out ok plus he's been the victim of great goal keeping , masons attitude is superb

Are we starting to see more positives?

First match of the season that I haven't been able to watch as I was working ffs. Sounds like it was our best performance of the season bar the finishing.

I like Mason, and today for me showed he was well suited to one of the three behind CF, though in that system those three have to produce alot, not sure if can see him doing that long term, solid squad player IMO

=EnfieldYiddo, post: 4766017, member: 22924"]So is Poch's lack of subs a cause for concern?

His biggest weakness is definitely his team selections and subsequent in game changes.

Wish he would be more proactive than reactive, that's what makes a great tactician.
Lol. If you're a football coach and you're biggest weakness is team selection and substitutions then you best start looking for another job imo.

We didn't play badly at all but I'm lost for words when it comes to where we're heading. I don't see Poch's pressing style being adopted hardly anywhere on the pitch anymore which makes me wonder what he wants to see long term.

We're playing very very narrow at the moment and getting very few crosses in the box, I hope this changes long term when Son, Clinton and Pritchard are fit but I seriously worry where our creativity is coming from, especially when Eriksen isn't in the side.

He really needs to sort his substitutes out as well, 83rd minutes Pritchard came on, hardly time to make an impact and the only other change was forced.

I just don't know where we're heading at the moment which worries me. We were fairly solid at the back but never really forced Howard into many saves apart from the two one-on-ones. Confusing game but positives to take I guess.

Finally made it back from the game.

Thought we played really well today, just couldn't find the back of the net.

Frustrating that we did'nt get the 3 points I think we deserved, but their are a hell of a lot of positives to be taken from this game and built upon.
Indeed. We're going to be a very strong team.

Think that is why we aren't seeing them play together anymore and dier is in the team.

Dier just keeps impressing. His passing is also better than advertised.
I think you are right but I think Dier is really a centre back in the long term; he has said that is where he wants to play. I think that means that we need 2 CM's. I think if we get that part of the team sorted we will see a big improvement in terms of creativity, especially with Son, may be Saido and Pritchard etc.

Tbh I agree to an extent but honestly think we need to stick with him , his attitude is superbhe never stops running plus of all our midfielders he's the one who always wants the ball plus tries to get forward , again sorry to bring him up again but lampard first seasons at wet spam there fans were saying the same

Decent back up for Eriksen though. Good to have in the squad and his energy early on was great and he made good runs.

Yeh he works very hard, and I like the way he runs past CF, but with eriksen/chadli/njie/son/pritchard in contention for those three AM slots I think he'll have his work cut out to be starting regularly, but that's assuming he's not playing as part of two deeper lying CMs.

Yup your right he will have to fight but I think he's up to it , again tho I think with the players uve mentioned we target Europa rather than league there is not a cat in hells chance of us getting 4th but with our squad we could win EuropaEuropa

I suppose it's a shame to be debating this after one of his performances. Whilst I agree he has a good attitude / is a trier that can only take you so far and does mean he is not limited. He does strike me as amounting to more than Dean Marney, Jamie O'Hara or Jake Livermore.

I think the comparison with Lampard is generous. People forget Mason is a lot older than Lampard was and I think Lampard showed overall better technique. Mason is the same age now that Lampard was when he signed for Chelsea, there is a big difference there.

I agree. I thought he was our best player, it just long term I think he will be a CB.

Chadli was his frustrating self today, wasteful and I would have like to see Pritchard come on 10-15 mins earlier.

Again maybe I'm being optimistic but when lampard left and we were in the hunt to sign him a majority of spurs fans ( from the 606 forum i read at the time ) were against signing him ,plus I would argue its a lot harder now than it was then for young english players to make it , I'm going out on a limb i think mason is the real deal and will be a spurs legend
