Is it a sad point of principle my main gripe is seeing much smaller clubs like West Brom/West Ham net spend tens of millions whilst we do seemingly everything in our power to break even.... Once again.

I thought there would be no financial restrictions due to the new stadium, sure seems like there is.

Despite the negatives, the clusterf*** of a TDD, the lack of strength and depth in key areas one thing remains, pure, solid and true....

We are about the Glory of the Game,
We are about Playing with Style,
Daring to Try, Daring To Risk, Daring to Dream.....To Dare Is To Do,
We Are Tottenham Hotspur

Get it out of your system now lads, cos in a week and a half we have a job to do, to support the lads who will actually pull on the shirt.

COYS
100% and please bring the noise at the Lane, we definitely lift the players and our play when the place is rocking.

All these 'ITK's' are complete and utter c**ts.
The genius Goat who has his own section on this forum has literally never got anything right! "Spurs have £40m overdraft at the ready" good one you clown.

The admins of this site shouldn't sanction such bull shit idiots as they get people's hopes up and then the fans get more annoyed as it becomes an expectation cos some Virgin had nothing else better to do than to make up rumours.

......errr, are you new? :cautious:

West Ham bought sure, did they buy well? I am not so sure about that, the players they signed today are hardly that inspiring. Numbers for numbers sake is not a good plan.

In the interests of being fair to the milignant dwarf…..

BBC's David Ornstein

"Some at West Brom encouraged chairman Jeremy Peace to find an agreement with Spurs counterpart Daniel Levy, even within the final hour of the window, but Peace refused.

"It is also understood that at no point in this saga did Peace give Tottenham a price that might secure the player, hence the prolonged chase and multiple bids.

"There is serious concern at West Brom about the effect this will have dressing room morale, with Berahino not in a state of mind to play and not one of the more popular figures among team-mates."

I know this is from a reliable source but it makes no sense at all to me. We've been in contact with West Brom for weeks on end over this deal - and we had no idea what sort of money they would accept according to Ornstein.

Don't buy that for a second. Even if its true, that should of been a big enough hint that they really didn't have much intention of selling at reasonable prices and we should of buried our interest and moved on.

Welbeck has played about 12 minutes of football as an actual lone striker in the last two years (yes exaggeration, but not much) he's been mostly used as a wide striker by both Arsenal and ManU. Drogba also was third choice and barely used behind Remy (another player who spent nearly all of his time at Marseille as a wide striker . Arsenal are also the only team in Europe's top five leagues who didn't buy an outfield player this summer. Why could that be ? Because even a club with resources and wage budget vastly superior to ours are struggling to buy players to improve them. As have Chelsea, one of the riches clubs in the world.

Chadli, Njie and Son scored more goals per minute in open play than Berahino did last year. There is no perfect solution to our situation. No top class uber striker with all round lone striker game is going to be a) very affordable or b) want to come and be understudy to Kane.

I kept saying this early on, and believe me I was never Gignac's biggest fan, but him on a free would have made much more sense while looking for a longer term solution. He's not the quickest but he grafts and has a good brain and the attributes to play our system (which he did last year under Bielsa) Or Embolo, even at 20m-25m would have because his ceiling is massive and he can also play wide auxiliary/forward and has much more to his all round game than Berahino.

As I said, there were options I would have liked us to pursue, but the fact that they weren't I think is more down to scouts/Mitchell/Pochettino (perhaps) than Levy who is clearly delegating the philosophy and recruitment targeting to others.

And Berahino was a poor fit, especially at the ludicrous price. he's not a great wide player, he created fuck all for anyone the whole of last season. His game is, not entirely limited to, but more effective on the break/counter when he can isolate defenders, about 70% of our games are played against the deep sitting teams. And both N'Jie and Son will bring the pace needed but both create more for others.

Great post BC. Agree with all of that.

Indeed it's not but surely it can't be coincidence we miraculously break even every window?

We always seem 'willing' to spend beyond but it never materialises... Very convenient.

If money was there to be spent, a back up striker should have been sourced.

Pat Murphy of the BBC

He said that's what he was told from the WBA end, Spurs contacted him to refute and he asked for the correct figure, which as far as I know he's still awaiting the answer on.

Levy's probably giving it to him in instalments.

A phone call once a year with another digit, over the next 8 years.

I can be so passive about it, because I went to the Lane on Saturday and I enjoyed it. I stood up, I sang and I yelled at the ref. I supported Spurs. I saw a defensive partnership in its embryo stage. I saw Eric Dier running a midfield like he's been doing it for as long as Pirlo has. I saw Alli running with enthusiasm. THOSE are the things that matter. Add to that some pace in attack and a fit Christian Eriksen and I am happy. What we saw last year were issues with the defence. We have strengthened there. That was the priority.

Do you think Poch may have said that too? Daniel, I'm OK up top, if the right striker comes along we'll have him, otherwise I need defenders and I want TA and a new right back to get Walker playing a bit better.

I have a plan for Dier (and we have Mason and Bentaleb who played there all of last season) but if you can get a DM, then get one. But please let's sort the defence.

"We're a team in decline". Yeah right. Sorry, but it's that sort of bollocks I can't entertain. We have new signings yet to start for us. We've shipped out a load of the bad eggs and the players that weren't going to feature. Hell, we've taken, on an asset-by-asset basis a heavy hit on a lot of them.

So, potentially missing out on a striker that may or may not have improved us vs. what you're saying. Who's being the more dramatic?

BEST POST OF THE DAY BY A MILE
