edmonton: I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't sign anyone. Spoke to someone about what I thought the the safe topic of the obvious need for cover for Harry and even on this my expectations were clearly being managed.
This [not signing anyone as striker cover/competition] would not surprise me at all. And I think we will get our fingers burnt this time round if that's the way it plays out. #optimism

I would be absolutely furious if we don't sign a striker. What a chance for top 4 maybe even top 3 but an injury to Kane and we're gone. I'm not expecting a world beater but even a quick fix will do for now and then go on and get a proper challenger in the summer. I've seen us waste our chances due to a poor January too many times and I will be very annoyed if it happens again

Dragon1 being told off by the club after posting lengthy ITK obtained from being allowed to meet the players when they were in LA a few years back.
Wow, he must have revealed some serious stuff. Cheers mate

We will have to trust the club on this if they decide not to recruit however i reckon they will right player and price etc.
That dressing room right now is the most precious commodity they have and keeping it is priceless imo.

It's on here somewhere in the archives. It was when AVB was in charge and they ended up having a few drinks with some of our players. It was very revealing in terms of what players and staff thought of each other. Very much 'from the horse's mouth' ITK.

Not signing anyone would be the least shocking thing of all time. This is Daniel Levy we are talking about. Even if he signs someone, which is a huge if, it's likely to be a saha or nelsen type. You'd be playing yourself if you think Levy will sign someone with enough quality to help this team achieve its goals.

Dont be so sure levy is no fool he will see how this league is panning out, so if he feels a deal could be done he might just take the plunge.
Dont forget poch is his adopted son he trusts him and poch has earnt that trust.

Last Jan we bought Alli and loaned him back, I'd really like to see us do a similar deal this year with one or more of the most promising players from the lower leagues. Other than Dembele have we been linked with any other Championship / league players ?

I get the impression from bits I've read on here, Rico Henry could be this year's Dele Alli type purchase. There was a post the other day, can't recall who from, but an ITK who suggested a list of 4/5 youngsters being looked at, since then there have been media reports about Jordan Wheately from Ilkeston, Shilow Tracey from Ebbsfleet amongst others, but I suspect they'd be bought in to join the academy. Dembele could go either way, pre contract to join in the summer, or may be signed up straight away, in the same way Holtby was bought in early.

I think the injury to Njie makes the need for a striker even greater. I'd be pretty surprised (but not stunned) if we didn't sign anyone.

I have to agree with other posts, this is the most open season there has been for years, and the right squad adjustment could see us push ahead of others. Will the management take the bold move and make a signing or two...??

Who is going to be able to just step right into a fit actively pressing team and kick right off and score goals without a bedding in time?

Even if we brought in a striker I'd expect Son to still act as Kane's backup for the next few months.

I'm leaning toward agreeing with most of this. The only thing that I would say is that there's a 'maybe' lurking in there…..maybe he's actually ACTUALLY learned a bit of a lesson by now. Maybe we don't spunk away a small amount of money on a Saha but go instead for someone like that Dembele chap from Fulham (again)….that reeks of the 'new' way of doing things.

Personally it wouldn't surprise me if we signed the kid from Fulham and Berahino. With a cheeky loan deal for Messi to seal the title. Come on Levy, do it, don't be a **** for once in your life :D

Yup, Tino Asprilla says Hi !

Must still be the best example of a superstar striker signing that went wrong - Keegan's Newcastle conceded a big lead to ManU who won the title

Happy New Year peeps.

Let's hope Daniel Levy gets our new year off to a good start with one or two signings.

In Levy we trust :sneaky:

More likely we will sell Wimmer, Alderweireld gets injured and Fazio becomes first choice.

How is it likely? We haven't signed a Saha or Nelsen type since... we signed Saha and Nelsen.

In fact we have only signed 2 players
in January since then; a 22 year old and an 18 year old.

We could do a lot worse than bringing in Seb Giovinco on loan from the MLS until February.

If he was 20cms taller I'd say yes. If you're after that type we should just wait for Pritchard to get fit again.

I like the idea of a short loan from the MLS though, we only need first team cover until Clinton is fit again, surely there is a good experienced no 9 over there who would jump at the chance of a little sojourn to the EPL

hertyid replying to edmonton: Yeah agreed. Club does seem reluctant to rock the boat and Poch is genuinely happy with the squad he has. Young striker to support Kane does seem to be on the cards though. Townsend and Fazio bring in some cash too.

edit: happy new year
