May seem so to you but not in my eyes is it ridiculous.

Slavery is endemic; it's far from being just historic. Which makes the use of the term in this sort of argument simply offensive. You're equating the contractual shenanigans over some incredibly lucky and well-rewarded young men with people forced into domestic servitude in petrostates, with child soldiers in Africa, with Yazidi women seized in Syria. That's an insane position to take.

Who was it that caused a media shit storm not long ago by comparing modern day multi million pound footballers to slaves? I can't remember but remember the story.

The thoughtful and perceptive Cristiano Ronaldo, I think.

Actually, on googling, he was agreeing with Sepp Blatter. It's great company that Herc is keeping.

Peace isn't going to get the £30m he wants for a player who has 18 months left on his contract.

Last year the tribunal ordered Liverpool to pay Burnley 11m for Danny Ings, who was out of contract. Pearce must think he'll get the same for Berahino. In that light he could afford to hold out for 20-25 m now...

My use of the word, being of the Afro-Caribbean decent I would not disrespect neither be insensitive with my term of use. We all have our own opinions, and maybe I should of selected a different word. With all that said I stand by my views (slave word use aside).

a thread full of hypocrites...
with a lot of people on here's thinking we probably should have just sold Berbatov & Modric on the cheap & Levy would have deserved everything he gets!

imo the player ain't good enough anyway but I think Peace is right to try get his price even if it is for an average footballer.

Hardly the same. We wanted to keep Berbatov and Modric and the manager would have played them.

The only person that wants to keep Berahino is Peace. And not because he wants him to play football.

We can go on about this all day. They are obligated to fulfill what is in writing. I do not come from a world where everything is as simple as you make it out to be. I can remember a program on Sky Sports couple years back now, where there were 3 footballers along with Joey Barton. They all said that the public only see one part but a lot of clubs treat players like slaves, wanting to hold them to contract, after having agreements that if other 'better' clubs came in for them they would like to be made aware and talk to them.

They said it would shock you to find out how some clubs behave and sees the player as money making opportunity, and does not take the player's wishes and feelings into account. It was along the lines what they shared. You cannot just come out with a carpet statement like that, because we are not armed with the facts.

I understand exactly what you are saying.

The trouble with some, is that they see how handsomely these players are paid and would happily trade places for that money or just to play football, regardless as to whether they were treated like an asset rather than a person.

But football clubs do (like players) have demands and some clubs feel they should be compensated for their efforts (SB being developed since he was 12 - huge amount of investment), so to lose a player a club have heavily invested in, you can kinda see the clubs side.

And on the flip side, players have short careers, most want to play at the highest level of football, so when they feel they are held back - it's not great either - club holding player, player wanting to jump ship - not great, it happens though.

personally, I'd rather see a player go and fulfill what they want to fulfill, if it means leaving a club, I'd rather a player went, rather than stayed even if they didn't want to.

Ridiculous comment to equate modern day footballers as slaves.

He didn't equate the above, but was talking about Barton and some other footballers using that term - presuming you mean that the original show is ridiculous rather than Hercules ?

That is exactly what I was saying, and responded to that to that poster only to have someone give me a ridiculous 'doh' rating. Never mind we a are not all the same.

Burnley want 11m, and Pool offered 5m. To be determined at tribunal......

Why do people persist in bringing up Modric and Berbatov, there is absolutely no similarity between the two of them and even less between either of them and the Berahino situation and anybody who believes there is obviously never bothered taking an interest in either of those cases at the time.
