One thing I'm confused about is what Pochettino said about going for the third goal when we're winning 2-0 and these quotes from Kane about slowing the game down:

“We probably could have controlled the game a bit better in the second half with the ball, just slowing the tempo down and taking the stuffing out of them, but again it’s something we’ve got to learn from. We’re a young side, we’re getting experience from every game and we’ll only learn from this. “It isn’t only these two games, we’ve done that a lot this season where we’ve been leading at half-time and we just haven’t finished teams off. We had a couple of chances in the second half, just to put it to bed, and the third goal always does that.

Sometimes when we take the lead, I think we start looking around and asking "well what do we do now?" Some people see as it as complacency, I know, but I am not sure I'm buying that. I thought we got anxious almost immediately after taking the lead against West Brom, for example. Interested on people's views on this.

Does Pochettino need to be more pragmatic? Is there confusion as to what the plan is when we're in a winning position?

It's a hard balance. Previously we've tried to shut games down and hold on to a lead (like Stoke at home) and it's either failed or given us a bit of a scare. I wonder if the way we blitzed Man Utd and Stoke recently had anything to do with it, the extreme confidence that by keeping the pressure up we would have scored a third.

I think maybe Mason came on because Poch knew Dembele would be missing the rest of the season and Mason certainly needs to get up to speed.
Good point, thought that at the time, but in retrospect it blunted our attacking threat.

I genuinely don't know. On the one hand, I think it's partly because we need a different type of central midfielder. But from reading Pochettino's quotes about the contrast between our philosophy and Leicester's, I am left wondering if attack is the only form of defence for him.

Chelsea fans singing you're fucking shit, there's just so much wrong with that.

They did that to make themselves feel better for coming mid-table with a multi-billion dollar team and not winning a single thing or gaining a European place this season.

It's embarrassing to the extreme.

"you're fucking shit" is pure projection.

Internally, they are devastated and thoroughly embarrassed by the dogshit their team has produced for most of the season. The whole world has seen how low they have sunk.

If we're 'fucking shit' and they drew with us at home what does that say about them?

There's a lot in that. As soon as we try to defend we drop off and then can't effectively get the ball back. We seem to lose a high percentage of second balls as well which all leads to us being put under the cosh. We are not resilient enough when teams manage to press us and we don't have the pace needed to frighten them about leaving space behind their back line. All things which should be addressed in the transfer window.

One thing that might have been lost in the mix last night - barring an extremely improbable goal difference turnaround, we're now guaranteed automatic qualification for the Champions League because City and Arsenal still have to play each other.

Got to secure 2nd place now. Hilarious seeing Chelsea fans thinking they played a part in the winning the league.
They are trying to position themselves as King makers to convince themselves that they have actually achieved something this season.

They don't see the utter shame and complete indignity of it.

know what...that game was against last year's champions, a chelsea team if they hadn't had that mutiny against mourinho were capable of winning it this year, and they threw the kitchen sink at us, it was a cup final, they could not have been more motivated, and it was away at their place with their hateful fan base, full of knuckle dragging racists...and they did not beat us...just as with Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal failed to get the better of us this year. Harry Kane was right to choose a picture of some evil looking lions to represent who we are...!

by the way...we have the Bingo cup final against west ham, now that this game looks like being Chelsea's annual cup final, any ideas what it should be called?

GTMS - Greyhound Track Memorial Shield?

He was looking away, but I think it was intentional from the way he moved his right foot. I hope I'm wrong.

He just seems to be walking... maybe that step is slightly longer than his others... could easily be seen as accidental. I love how he rolled around so much though. Pussy.

Best they could do this season. We still come out winners in comparison.

Problem is we haven't had that extra bit of quality, pace or muscle to come on and help shut a game down, so going for a kill shot has been our best method imo.

We have to improve our bench next season. That will give us the flexibility to continue to go for it or shut it down if poch feels it's the best call.

Need that flexibility.

funny thing about fiberglass is that arsenal fans still hate him, most chelscum fans think he played poorly to get jose the sack and barca fans think he was not good enough for them...poor fiber just can't get any love

I don't agree, every team, through the course of the season will concede a certain number of goals this way, that way or another way. You'll never completely eradicate any particular 'way' of conceding goals. You can work as hard as you like to eliminate it but it'll still happen. Saying its a 'massive error' isn't right IMO because you have no idea of how much or what work has gone into that, the same as bubble in post 2381 saying we leave ourselves too open when we've taken the lead. No we don't, its a massive generalisation, we may have done so a few times but it isn't a habitual thing, if it were we would have been found out ages ago.

If it were something I thought of concern i'd have said that its maybe something we can improve on, there is no single thing, otherwise who's right? Whats the issue? Too many set pieces? Leaving ourselves too open? What is it? Can't be both, our defensive record this season doesn't suggest that at all.

We have the best defensive record in the league, its not perfection, but football doesn't work like that does it*? :D

*He asks knowing that there are match thread people who genuinely expect perfection week in, week out :cautious:

PS: I guess what i'm saying is that in the inquest to find out why we didn't win the league there is no one magic bullet and given our defensive record, cut the guys at least a little slack.
A fair reply Sir - we've had a fantastic season and it was just an observation and somewhere, I think MoPo and the team will always look to the tiniest details to improve - all 3 of those goals mentioned cost us dearly - and it's a high percentage of our goals conceded (from set pieces) -of course there is no magic answer - but, and I can't put my finger on why, we do look at our most vunerable when set pieces come in. It maybe a simple tweak - changing Dier's role at corners and giving the Huth's and Cahills of this world a stronger opponent? - I'm not moaning just observing.
