Deja Vu !! really hope we don't screw up this transfer window..

The number of targets we miss is pretty shocking if miss out on a player for the sake of £5 million when we have minimum £80 million in new revenue does not seem like a good plan to me.. We need a young energetic striker with pace who can score goals and the new reality is that costs about £30 million. Had we invested Properly last season we would probably be league champions now.

Sometimes you need to pay a bit extra to win in transfer market to show intent and to motivate the fan Base.

Totally frustrating!!

More meltdowns this morning then I see. Perspective really is a wonderful thing.

Like most of us I also wanted to sign Batshuayi but not for 40m euros. That shit is crazy. I'm still a little disappointed but if we had no decent strikers and we were looking to get MB as our number 1 forward then I'd be mad as hell that we hadn't matched Chelsea's bid but the reality is that he was always going to be backup/rotation with Harry Kane and that kid is our present and future. We simply cannot be paying 40m euros for a backup striker that may not even pan out in this league.

We were always counting on the fact that we were his best option and that would allow us to do a good deal but when Chelsea start flashing their knickers at players, usually they fall over themselves to sign for them as they know they'll be getting paid crazy money.

There may not ever be a day that we can compete with them financially but frankly, I don't think we'd want to at the prices they are paying. Batshuayi would've been a gamble at 25m let alone 40m. Let those scumbags have him.

For me, if the options are
Batshuayi for €40m
Or
Janssen for €20m
Then it's Janssen every day of the week, invest the other €20m in a player capable of unlocking a defence.
Job done, DM, CF and WF, let's crack on with preseason.

People keep saying that about the Dutch league and Janssen but from what I've seen over the last few seasons, the defending in the premier league is hardly exceptional. If anything it's got worse, so I'm less worried about that.
4 of our starting 11 were produced from the dutch league lol...

40m for Bat I'd say isn't that insane. Would I have preferred for us to pay less sure but given the market at the moment 40m isn't crazy. The thing here is that Chelsea have just got so much spending power. They can just casually spend 40m and it's no big deal for them. They can do it that quickly too and don't have to spend months contacting a player.
We do have to put in that extra leg work and by all accounts we'd put in all that leg work and were willing to meet the price tag (admittedly slightly forced by this palace bid). So we were about to pay the price then Chelsea came in with more. There's nothing we can do about this. We got beat. Annoyingly by Chelsea again.
Some people are saying we should act faster as if that really changes much. It's not always in our control and considering how quickly Chelsea moved who's to say if we'd agreed a fee pre Euros Chelsea wouldn't have done the exact same thing.

We're in a difficult position in that we clearly have an established No.1 Striker in our team and are looking for someone to rotate/be back up/playing along with him. Not the strongest position to be in since we're basically saying to anyone you won't really be first choice. And understandably a lot of players would love to be starting week in and all that. It's not possible but that's what you want.

So seems like Bats is gone. We got beat fair and square. There's still time there's still players out there and sounds like we're making other movements so it's not the end of the world by any stretch.

I don't think that @Hercules will agree.

This is clearly a ploy by Levy and Co to establish whether he gets the SC seal of approval

I am pissed off that chelsea are shafting us at every turn on and off the pitch.

Another concern is that if Palace, West Ham and others are throwing money around there is nothing stopping them moving on to Janssen or Sanabria pushing up their prices.

Personally do not expect a resolution on this until Belgium are done at the Euros. Having said that, if Chelsea are in for him I expect him to go there.

It's a shame as you get the feeling if we'd met their price straight after the season ended we might have wrapped this up.

To me 30 million is fine for a genuine goalscorer and something tells me this guy is 20 a season in any league.

Have seen barely anything of Janssen/Sanabria but hopefully they are a similar class.

I keep on going on about his cost and I think it's a major problem for us. Marseille need €25 million next week. I'm assuming that's the full amount next week. We wouldn't give them a massive chunk of money like that. We spread the transfer fee over a few years like most NORMAL teams. Only teams like Chelsea, Man U and man city can do things like that because they so much money. We can't. The berahino transfer last summer showed us that as it was played out so publicly.

I think that's always been the problem and why we haven't signed him.

Been waiting for something from him.. I think what we have to remember is a deal for Batshuayi is unlike almost any other transfer given the economic situation Marseille are in.. Stories will be leaked, true or not, from every which way possible. Hell, it could have been put out their by Belgium's opponents for all we know!

Judging from that tweet, it sounds as if a fee has been agreed and nothing else. If Bats has agreed to join Chelsea, it'll be about wages. In which case, if Champions' League games at Wembley aren't any good for him, let him go!

However, this one's not over til it's over.

Do we know for a fact the player himself has agreed to this deal, or is it just another case of a club having a bid accepted?

This reminds me of when we signed Darren Bent. Everyone was convinced he was signing for the spammers right up until he signed for us.
