Strikers thrive on being run into the ground, like no other position on the pitch, strikers don't fatigue like other positions because they get that constant endorphin/adrenalin fix of scoring - it's a powerful drug. When was Henry, RVN, Shearer, Ibra, Shevchenko, Tevez, Benzima, (to name a few high profile examples of a multitude of the species) etc etc ever rested for anything other than meaningless domestic cup games ?

No team has 2 players of similar quality for every position, not even close, not Real, not Bayern and clearly none of the EPL big boys - that's a complete fallacy. Wimmer is not in Vertinghen's class, he was an adequate cover.
Most of those played in a partnership which is very different in terms of workload. I for one don't want Kane run into the ground and looking at our transfer rumours it would appear Poch doesn't either.

No team may have 2 players for each position but they strive for it. At the bigger teams they get distracted by the Galactico effect, Poch is cleverer than that.

Honestly mate, I have never understood this striker fixation. Since Berbatov left it's been "all we need is a top drawer striker" we get a striker that score over 20 goals two seasons running and now its "we need two top drawer strikers".

Arsenal finish above us every season and have outscored us every year bar last year in the last 6, with one striker and often one that's been inferior or no better than ours, why ? because they have more intelligent players who create better quality chances that don't require the striker to be world class.

We should spend the money on players who improve our IQ, not our strength or speed.

Somehow we need to get sufficient cover for Kane. We have no one who can cover for him at the moment. We have Eriksen, Ali and Lamela who are intelligent players capable of creating chances but none of them are a striker. Our options for cover do not cover it as they are makeshift options like Chadli and Son who both showed a lack of strikers instinct.

In my view we need a striker to come in and take over should Kane get injured or heaven forbid need a bit of time on the bench due to poor form.

Look, I think somebody messed up. That's what I think. Now, let's go spend a smaller sum of millions on an even more unpolished alternative who will spend all next season getting used to PL and Pochettino's system effectively leaving us with Son as striker alternative for one more season. But, hey, then we got more value for money, right?
There's no guarantee Batshuayi would have come in and started scoring either. He has some things going for him, like the Belgians helping him settle, and having a good record coming off the bench, but still many feted foreign imports have not done it.

We don't know that Janssen or Sanabria will be any more or less successful. I certainly feel more comfortable spending £15m on a backup No 9 than £33m. I still think our biggest need is a midfielder with genuine pace and dribbling ability, and hope we can make the big signing of the summer this position.

I agree, there is no guarantee. But one of my main points throughout this thread has been that a smaller amount of money doesn't automatically guarantee a better piece of business either. And as far I as know, you have reservations about Sanabria, too?

can`t wait for Levy and Lewis to sell the club to people with real ambition on the pitch and real enthusiasm for football. I think Levy is more excited about winning at making a deal than actually being excited about signing the great players that mean we win something.. I never seen him show emotion and that`s an issue for me. Even Abramovich shows some passion..

Expensive bench warmer and he wanted to play weekly as not the type to wait about with Kane being no 1 in our system.
We were never going to pay over the odds for him and that became apparent a few months ago allegedly.
Poch is fine and the other option will work out better in the long run.

I agree. I think all of us will learn to love Messi and get over missing out on Batshuayi in time.

Sorry, that doesn't fit the ridiculous posts like the one above yours.

I don't expect you to respond respect. If the other option is Sanabria, I would be relatively happy as opposed to Janssen. Reasons I have have addressed many times.

Even in the transfer world Spurs lead you on only to let you down.

Every year we seem to get done at the post for players we've had a long standing interest in. It does make you wonder whether there is something fundamentally wrong with our strategy at that level.

Lol in what way exactly has the club 'led you on' about this transfer? I can't remember all the official statements coming out from Poch and the club declaring our intent to buy him, can you?

Maybe it's a case of the fans letting themselves down by basing their opinions on absolutely zero evidence and absolutely zero knowledge about what's going on, the clubs intentions, Poch's wishes - in fact anything at all. Because they don't know. But then deciding they do know what's happening and what the manager wants, and forming opinions based on stuff they've made up.

Comte likes to play two up front so at Chelsea he might get to start regularly but for us I guess he would rotate with others

Nothing official has been said, but there has been plenty of reliable itk and respectable media outlets reporting that he's been a long standing target, one, moreover, that we had a personal agreement with to join us this summer. One report from a local French newspaper today, with no agenda to pursue that I'm aware of, was quite clear that we not only had an agreement with the player but with the club aswell, and that Levy failed to close the deal. It wouldn't be the first time he dicked around with the signing of potentially world class talent, just ask Aubemeyang.

It also said the deal included signing Benjamin Mendy, so I then realised it was pretty much bollocks.
