I like the look of Wijnaldum. And he scores. And he can play many roles for the team - wide or in the centre. I really am curious why Liverpool aren't keen. Gotze has worked with their coach before so is there a problem? Of course Gotze has a high profile and has done well in the past. He would certainly be a signing that shows intent. I'm just not certain that he would be right for us.

One player other player that looks very impressive is Paulo Dybala of Juventus. I'd prefer him to either Gotze or Wijnaldum.

Not clear who you're on about at points there. Suggest paragraphs, further punctuation, writing style

That plus with their new spanking stadium it's going to be harder and harder to crowbar players out of Lyon.

I doubt it will make that much difference to be honest. Having CL football will help, but Lyon still don't have the revenues of some of the poorest teams in the EPL.

Obv would be a top name signing but can't see him wanting to come to a new team, new league with a manager that is known for making his players require "two hearts and three lungs" when he could go back home, be the main man and make just as much or more, UCL included. I think there are plenty of fast, talented, lower-expectation vs high-potential talents out there waiting for us.

But I'd love it if he came!

Don't know why some here are saying Gotze not being wanted by Dortmund fans is a reason for him not going there. They didn't want him leaving in the first place and he left and if the club hierarchy wants him back they'll probably get him. In the end the fans have little/no say on transfers

Bentaleb played a whole season as arguably our best cm when Poch first arrived. He was pivotal to some of our best performances that season as well - beating Arsenal and the 3-3 at Anfield. He was clearly never properly fit last season and spent most of it injured. With a good pre season behind him I think he more capable than Alli to play the deeper role. His skillset and ability on the ball allow him to a control game more than Alli - who is more suited into ghosting into goalscoring positions rather than pass, move, awareness and ability take the ball in tight spaces that is required in CM.

i'm way behind on this thread, but got to post this, we lost 3-2 to Liverpool, and please go watch the highlights via the official site, because if you class that as one of Bentaleb's best games, you are sorely mistaken

Gundogan, Hummels and Aubameyang is all but set to leave.
Dortmund have already brought in 6 players (Bartra, Guerreiro, Rode, Merino, Dembele and Mor) and are expected to sign Schurrle. That's 6-7 players to replace 3, and one of those 3 was injured constantly (Gundogan). That's more than enough at this point.

At this point they need to sell some to get their squad numbers balanced. Neven Subotic will be on his way out as Tuchel doesn't favour him and I wouldn't be surprised if Ramos and Blaszczykowski are sold as well.

I think BVB dont need to sell yet as they gotten 100M from the sale of 3 best players. They are ambitious...

"Yet despite the many changes at the club, Tuchel said Dortmund remain ambitious, adding: "We want to challenge the big teams in the Champions League, attack the top of the Bundesliga, and win the DFB-Pokal."" quote from ESPN

Just read that Subotic is availabble for 4M pounds.... thats cheap option to cover Toby. This is a strange one. He used to be the top defender. WTF happen there?

Like I said, Tuchel doesn't rate him, so he doesn't play him. I'm saying they'll sell players they don't use like Subotic, the Polish bloke, and Ramos. Subotic is openly available to buy as is Blasczczczczczykowski.

I've read a few headlines stating Liverpool are no longer interested, Does anyone know the reason, a few I can think of
1. They no longer have a spot in the squad?
2. They have found out something about him, dodgy knee or something else?
3. He doesn't play for Southampton?

we really should go all out for Götze. Firstly because he is a highly gifted player whose superb technique would delight all true football fans. Secondly, he would really ad a spark of creativity to our attacking play.
And thirdly because signing him would be a real statement of intent and make future signings in the elite category just that much easier...
I'd also a forth point: we can then close up shop in terms of incomings for this summer and get on with preseason, no fecking around with last minute deals.

Yes some of the passes in that liverpool game were suicidal.

Not suggesting there is any truth in this at all but Shurrie (spelling) is a very good mate of Gotze. With the former now looking as if he is going to Dortmund then imo there could be a good chance that Gotze would also, given the opportunity. Just a thought.

I've got a really good mate at work, but no way am I following him to a different company. I'm not 12 and don't need my hand holding.

This. "Following a mate to a club" is up there with "He won't go there, he's a fan of their rivals". Absolute nonsense.

Got a feeling Klopp has heard a few dodgy stories about him from his contacts over in Germany...bad attitude, put on weight etc

I think it's more he's not interested in them.
