My Steelers have made some smart moves at the end of the roster cut period - signing Zach Mettenberger as a backup QB (much much better than Landry Jones), and trading a 2018 6th round pick to Cleveland for cornerback Justin Gilbert, who was the 8th pick in the first round two years ago. Apparently he's had a pretty bad attitude for the Browns, but if the Steelers can coach him up that would be a huge upgrade for their weakest position. Just a shame their stars on offense keep getting suspended...

As a Titans fan, you better hope Mettenberger never has to play. Strong arm, but completely immobile in the pocket and throws a lot of INTs.

The Browns cleaned house.

There are 3 teams in the league that when they come calling for a troubled player it has to make you hesitate, Steelers, Patriots and Seahawks. Cleveland dealt with 2 (Pats and Steelers) of them for players (Mingo and Gilbert) who reportedly had "attitude" issues. Makes you wonder if Cleveland had any second thoughts when it was those two on the other end of the line.

Team, quick query. I've kept an eye on NFL for a little while but I now travel to the US more frequently. Still learning the sport but with the NFL season starting I'd like to really give it a go and invest some time in it this year. To that end I'd like to pick a team to support so I can really follow what happens and would welcome your suggestions. I did think I should just picking my nearest team to London (patriots, jets, giants) and I do visit NY more then other cities however if there was any spurs link or reason then i'd gladly take it on board. What are your thoughts?

Away from the actual sport in the NFL it is very good to see these ludicrous players getting booed and derided for making any form of protest.

Where do they think they live? The land of the free and the home of the brave? Pah!

Not sure of any real links between Spurs and an NFL franchise (there's not even anyone in the NFL with a cockerel/rooster link) but I'm often struck by the similarities between Spurs and my NFL team, the Minnesota Vikings. Both were once among the elite teams, both have high profile and more successful neighbours and both have a remarkable knack of snatching defeat from the jaws of glory even when they seem to have done everything right.

Last season the Vikings looked set to knock-out the Seahawks out of the Playoffs and somehow missed a 27 yard field goal at the end to finish their season. This season big things were hoped for the team and then the QB gets a bad injury 2 weeks ago which means he'll miss the entire season. If there's a Spursy equivalent in every team sport then I'd argue that the Vikings are the NFL's version!

The Jacksonville jaguars are the team that play most often in London - the jaguars come every year and are considered to be the 'home' team. They are owned by the same guy that owns Fulham and due to the popularity of the UK NFL games and the relatively low attendance in Jacksonville, they are expected to become a full time London team at some point. So long term they may be your best option.

Worried that the Saints O-line is so poor that this season the great Drew Brees could end up the late, great Drew Brees :nailbiting:

Got to be the Jets. Haven't won a championship since the 1960s, are stuck in the shadow of their rival, their fans would offer their first borns just to finish above said rival once and while we're constantly reminded of lasagne the Jets have the butt fumble.

Actually, they really arent being derided. Most people are praising them. I only think Kaepernick is a fucking idiot though. I'll give him a little tip. Next time he wants to whine about oppression, he should probably not wear his shirt dedicated to Fidel Castro. Just some friendly advice.

Also, my issue with all this is that they are really doing so because of a few bad cops did horrible, unspeakable things. Thats fine. Protest that. Please. It should be protested and put an end to. But dont say black lives matter when you really could care less about the 500+ black people murdered in cold blood in Chicago, the majority of whom are hit by stray bullets that miss the intended target. Where are the protests for that? Where are the pleas to stop that violence? Did their lives matter? Or no because they werent killed by cops but instead by other black people from gangs?

I don't want to get into the ins and outs of it in this thread, because I'm not discussing whether their protest is valid or not.

I just find it bemusing that in a country where so many people are so proud of the 'freedom' mantra, that so many get upset when people express that freedom.

Has anyone from Texas made a similar protest yet? Bet that would go down well.

Good start for Anderson, Kubiak's run blocking schemes are gonna be great this year. Was impressed with the new QB for Broncos as well, he was unfortunate with his two turnovers and showed good poise all round I thought.

As for which team to support, well I've been following the Detroit Lions since the late 80s as my team, and I can highly recommend not doing the same as we are cursed going on 50+ years ! If the Vikes fan above thinks he has things bad, he hasn't known being a Lions fan LOL.

Siemian did well last night, IMO. Looked poised and confident. Think it was big for him that Kubiak had him come out throwing. Helped his confidence alot. Most times with new QB's coaches always run the ball first or throw little dinky pass plays. Kubiak opened the field for him to start with. Kubiak's zone blocking schemes have always been successful to run with. Also hasn't hurt that his RB's have been Arian Foster and CJ Anderson, mind you. I didnt hate him as the Texans head coach at all. I liked him alot but in the end, he had to go. He lost the team and nothing was working. It didnt help the situation that Schaub turned into garbage and also got hurt, the backups were largely crap and Foster couldnt stay healthy.

Most of the people upset are the far and alt right to be honest. Unfortunately, they're just very vocal

Glad my Broncos won yesterday. Was a great game! Actually thought we'd blown it near the end, but they managed to hang on and win. :)

Ridiculous that Newton was allowed in the game after the late hit to the head at the end. Any other position and he would've had to go through the concussion protocol.
