My friend was over last night Italian fella and he is a big Roma fan. He was telling me he's been at Roma getting treatment I don't know how he picked up on it or people told him back home

We miss his energy, pressing, aggression and skill. He turned out to be a big player for us
The last 6 games would indicate that we've not missed his energy, pressing, aggression and skill

And that makes it even harder for him..... Having to watch us go from strength to strength and watching his place in the starting 11 potentially dissappear.

If he wants it enough I don't doubt him being able to get back to where he was.

Truth is that he has a fight on his hands to get back into the side but all our players should feel the same..... Work hard, perform when given the chance, get rewarded.

Ive never been a Lamela fan. I think if you were to search the forum you would find that. I appreciate that he presses well and has improved under Poch but it remains that he has not been missed. We missed Kane and struggled. We missed Toby.

In all honesty him being out has not affected us at all. The results show it.

I fully agree with you that his pressing game is outstanding. But i appreciate those attributes in players like Wanyama/Dier/Dembele. In Lamela's position on the field i want attacking attributes and goals from him. He does not provide that. I think thats why im not phased that he's out injured.

Can't believe this has got so many negative ratings.
It's not really wrong is it?

Lamela is a decent player but we're 2 wins away from breaking our longest ever premier league winning streak and they've all come without him.

What about the matches before the winning streak started when we weren't playing well and he was out injured?

Maybe it's because he says Lamela doesn't have attacking attributes.

Thanks, its the Erik Lamela fan club and unless you speak in positive terms and have glowing thoughts. Then expect to get those. I dont mind the negative ratings at all i didnt know expressing a fact gets people in a twist.

He has attacking attributes sure......i expect goals from him in that position though.

He does score goals though. Maybe not enough though. I got what you were saying with your initial post, I was just being pedantic, you meant he doesn't offer enough in an attacking sense or enough goals for your liking. That's a perfectly reasonable opinion. But what you actually wrote was that he doesn't have attacking attributes or score goals.

He actually does have attacking attributes. He needs more goals to his game. But assists wise he provides far more key incisive passes that lead to goal scoring opportunity than Eriksen does.

Everyone excepts he needs to score more goals, I bet Erik himself knows he should, thing is, it's hard to get upwards to 10 goals in our attacking 4 when your striker bangs in 20 a season, guaranteed, and Alli scoring a ton and Eriksen on the free kicks as well as having a good eye for goal. You're never going to get all 3 behind the striker scoring loads, there's always going to be 1 who gets more assists and less goals.

Having said that, like I said, he does need to pop up with a few more. 6-8 league goals is very respectable IMO and he's not far away from that. This season is going to be a bit hard for him now as he will find it hard to get back into the starting 11 but he'll get a chance and hopefully he can take that chance with a goal and go on a little run as he should be pretty fresh coming into the last 10 games or so, hopefully.

Yeah I agree with that. Possibly the Issue is what is his best position? Is he a right-sided forward? Or is he a number 10? Or is he a midfielder?

I think you summed it up in the he is the player in our attacking quartet that doesn't necessarily play the best role for his skill set, rather he is the one that does a job for the team to provide balance but isn't necessarily the best for him on an individual basis. He can come deep and pick passes like Eriksen and he can run in behind like Dele, although he's not quite at their level for doing either of those things.

Great Player to have though in that he can potentially fill a number of roles within the team.

More than the 1 in 3 that he scored last season?

I would say 11 goals (& 9 assists) in 35 games is fairly decent for an attacking midfielder. Only our primary striker (Kane) scored more than that last season.

Maybe we should replace him with Isco, because Isco scored 3 in 29 last season and 4 in 36 the year before...

It's an overreaction to counter the original thoughts by many that Lamela was shit and a waste of money.

People are so deterimed to prove the "haters" wrong that everything be does is essential to the team or a goal/assist is proof that he is the player we spent so much money on. Meanwhile players like Eriksen can top the stats and still not be held in such high regard.

For me, Lamela has improved massively since his arrival but for me he still doesn't do enough. Too much giving away the ball and running into the oppostion. Be interesting to see what players comes back, I think his time is nearing its end with us but happy to be wrong if he can step up.
