Poch's tactical flexibility this year shows me that while he may not be the finished article yet, there is indeed a ceiling that is higher than where he's at now. I always thought that managers should be viewed similarly to players in terms of their career arc. They start off raw but learn very quickly, then transition into their prime, then fall off a bit as they run out of energy or as their soccer knowledge becomes retrograde. Poch obviously had experience managing before he joined Spurs, but in an overall sense, he's still pretty young, and he's very enthusiastic about his craft. We should expect more mistakes from him in the future, or even for general problems to surface that he will need to address to become a more complete practitioner of his craft; however, assuming we can do better than him currently is as silly as thinking we should get rid of Dele because someone else might come along.
Besides, even though we are in a title race now (sort of) and were last year as well, this is still a team that is built for the future. If we get a trophy this season? Excellent. The team is absolutely capable of it, too. But if not? Then Poch and the team get to evolve a little bit more, and they can have another crack at it as wiser and tougher competitors. Between ages, attitudes, and contract situations, this team is one for both the present and the future. Why shouldn't the manager fit this description as well?
Hilarious innit. Among the usual short sighted whinges and moans there are some weird, wonderful and quite frankly ridiculous theories on why we weren't blowing every team away.
When, in fact, as every other level fan realised, the real reason we had a rocky patch is because we had a number of injuries, suspensions and loss of form to many of our key players. And low in behold, now the majority of our players are fit, we've started picking up form again.
Yeah, honestly you can basically ignore everything I said at this point in time, I have basically eaten a nice humble pie, it tastes good in all honesty.
I mean to be fair when I made this we had just crashed out of the CL with a whimper and we weren't looking like we could turn around our form, I guess it stemmed from a fear of last season just being a one off and now all the bigger teams are back to performing again we would drop off etc.
Well I am happy to say my fear has been squashed, we look like the real deal, I never advocated Poch being sacked however, I just wanted improvement and actually, I think despite our little bad patch we are better than last year.
Last night was the most mature performance I have seen from this side, it's like everything came together at once, will there be more downs? Sure, I am positive of that but NOW I know deep down that this team is always capable of turning it around and maybe I should have a little more faith in Poch going forward.
That doesn't mean I won't criticise him if I think he gets things wrong but it does mean that next time we have a bad spell that deep down I won't be worried it will be something that will completely derail us, I suppose the latter could be because being 32 and watching spurs my entire life I have programmed myself to believe we are always one fuck up away from it all unravelling.
But after last night my mentality changed, I don't know what it was but that performance last night made me truly believe these players are capable of winning silverware.
Let's hope we continue it against West Brom because to me that is a game we normally fail in, especially after a big result like Chelsea, I don't think we will this time though, I think we will do em.
What needed resurrecting was some people's faith in our manager and team. The speed with which that was dropped was pretty poor really*.............IMO we were never out of the race for a top 4 spot.
*and it'll happen again, one bad result and they'll be back. One bad result.
Bump. The season is far from over yet, I dare say this thread will be bumped again when we lose or if we run out of steam towards the end of the season as we have done in the last few seasons.
Showed naivety today in making all the subs so early, and it nearly cost us the game. I'm sure he'll learn from this.
Yea we have a really shit manager I can't see us not being relegated this season.
We are 1 point of second playing great football, just beat Chelsea and a draw against city. Yea we are having the odd blip but poch is an amazing manager cut him some slack, having a thread on this forum called "poch needs to have a long hard look at himself". Is bloody disrespectful is record at spurs with a zero met spend is amazing.

There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with a decision he's made.

Behave.
I love Poch, but it doesn't mean he's the finished article. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with a decision he's made.
Talk about missing the point. He did make a big mistake today making all 3 subs by the hour mark especially as we had just equalised. I suspect he won't be making that mistake again.

We needed all those subs. We looked like winning from the moment the double D's came on, even when they scored.
