What's new

Poch needs to take a long hard look at himself.

Eh? We had just scored when he brought both of them on?
And when they came on we looked like we could score a lot more. The crowd got into it and started getting behind the team more, it lifted the whole place.
At one point the Wycombe fans were singing "Is this the Emirates"
Dembele imediately started dragging the game to Wycombe far more.

Talk about missing the point. He did make a big mistake today making all 3 subs by the hour mark especially as we had just equalised. I suspect he won't be making that mistake again.
Huh? I haven't seen the game yet, but I thought the subs came on at 61min and we equalised on 64min?

Whether they directly made a difference to the penalty or not I don't know, but I'm assuming by 60min the existing formation wasn't working despite Janssen coming on, hence making the change.

Our second string didn't play well, but equally, Wycombe played really well. Pochettino's actions in terms of change of tactics and substitutions meant we did not lose and ultimately got through without a replay.

Lots of assumptions about tactics & substitutions etc. but they are all speculation. Would we have won had he left things unchanged? If he'd only made 1 substitution? I don't think it was unreasonable for him to start with the team he did, but teams like Wycombe will play a style of football we probably are not accustomed to. Which is why we have cupsets and giants being killed.

It's very reasonable for people to criticise Pochettino and his choices - he's not perfect, however some of the assertions on here are a bit rich, because there's no guarantee their suggested alternative would have made any difference. You can't reboot and replay the game until you win here.

If Poch didn't make 3 early changes people would be criticising him for not using the subs to try and change the game. He can't win.

The benefit of hindsight means fans can always pretend they are experts.

I was there. The double change turned the game on its head. It was unlucky Trippier got injured, that's all.
I'd support Poch doing it more often in games where we can't get control.

Poch can't win. Lose the game by playing a weakened side and there's uproar for disrespecting the cup etc, win the game with a stronger team and he'll get blasted for not rotating and God forbid any injuries.

Like it or not, the FA cup is now a 2nd rate competition that doesn't give the rewards financially or with the same status as the EL, CL or even 4th place in the premier league.

Yes the game is about pots and I'd LOVE to win the FA cup but the game has changed since united did the triple. No side can challenge on 3 or 4 fronts anymore and you have to be selective with your teams.

Poch should blend first choice with fringe players in the cups, not change the whole lot.

Defensively they were a shambles, with forum darlings Winks and Dier providing no shield and neither Wimmer nor Davies staking any kind of claim to Jans shirt which was really annoying to watch. Might be an option to go Wanyama at CB and play Winks and Dembele at Sunderland.

When the commentator reminded me this was about to become the last ever FAC game at the Lane as we know it I was for a moment gutted that Poch could preside over such defensive ineptitude.

If he plays CCV or Josh again I'd be disappointed. Get them out on loan, a good championship club for both would be about right.

Looove the way the kiddos are playing football lately. Yes yes yes, the results are great of course, but the way they perform on the pitch! And the way Pochettino out of the blue has started nailing in-game, match-changing decisions. It's the first time I've seen actual joyful football under Pochettino.

Showed naivety today in making all the subs so early, and it nearly cost us the game. I'm sure he'll learn from this.
Good point, unless it's only being brought up with the aid of hindsight....otherwise it's just pointing out the fucking obvious.

not a cardinal sin, but some on here only like to criticize when he makes a mistakes, but never give him any credit.

Then challenge that criticism, explain how they are wrong or just ignore it. Instead we get endless ad hominem attacks or comments about how this topic shouldn't be discussed.

at the end of the day, even the top brass make errors, so if your not Poch's biggest fan you should understand he will make mistakes.

going by our position in the league, and involved still in 2 cups, the worst error he made this season was not putting 3 players on v Monaco to make us stronger. had he put Walker and Vertoghen on and either picked up a knock we would of totally been fucked in defence to face Chelsea. yes we lost but there was no guarantee we would of beaten a very good Monaco team either and could of been on a hiding if we lost any more defenders v Chelsea, which could of damaged the confidence going forward, and lets be honest our squad that's doing pretty well, is definitely not good enough to win the CL.

even the original poster has admitted that this thread was in the knee jerk area. at the moment we are competing above what our financial resources allow. Yes we would all love a cup final, and a win to go with it, but at the moment we don't have the squad that's strong enough to compete on all fronts.

when Poch does make errors I find it hard to go OTT, when in my 40 odd years of following Spurs, we haven't had many managers that have had us scoring plenty, and conceding so few. last season a GD of +34, this season so far +29, in 60 PL matches we have only conceded more than 2 goals in 1 match once, and that was due to the 11 he fielded that day having a really bad day, and i still believe had Newcastle not got a penalty from Sissoko diving at the time they got it in the match, we would of got the point needed. once that pen was scored we conceded 2 more due to playing a 1-4-5 formation, but the players let Poch and us down that day
