The London Stadium has reached the final stage of Stadium Of The Year 2016, a worldwide competition aimed at selecting the best new venues opened over the past 12 months.

The multi-purpose stadium in the Stratford Olympic Park has reached the final 10 from a long list of 29 modern stadia. The winner, to be revealed on March 6, will be judged by a prestige jury of five accomplished architects from around the world.

:ROFLMAO:o_O

The top 10 is:
Allianz Stadion, Vienna
Dacia Arena, Udine
Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens
London Stadium, London
Medical Park Arena, Trabzon
Sivas Arena, Sivas
Stadion FK Krasnodar, Krasnodar
Stadion Miejski, Bielsko-Biala
Vodafone Arena, Istanbul

By the way, it looks like Ms Brady can't count because there are only nine stadiums listed there. She forgot the Cape Coast stadium in Ghana which has a 15,000 capacity and cost $33m to build compared to the olympic stadiums 60,010 capacity and $407m cost. It must be quite prestigious for a small team like that to be nominated alongside the mighty Ebusua Dwarfs.

I'll confess I thought Bilic was going to be properly found out at WH as a bullshit artist and flake.

As it turns out, I think he's done well in - for various reasons - pretty tricky circumstances. The botched and stressful stadium move, the weirdo owners, the misfiring star players, the slew of key injuries he had over last year or so. He's navigated all that way better than I thought he would, and kept WH's heads above water. I think there was a recipe for disaster there, and he's managed to steer them clear of it, at least for now. Not bad IMO.

To be fair to him, he has kept a level of professionalism which has been lacking from everyone and everything else involved in the club.

However look at his face, it has cost him about 20 years of his life. The stress must be unbearable. If he did go I would expect West Ham to be relegated soon after.

He's by far, the most likeable thing about that club imo.
Hope he gets offered a bigger job somewhere and fucks off.
He walks like he's just shat himself but I think that's down to having fucked knees.

I'd piss myself if Ronald Koeman left Everton for Barca & they replaced him with Billic

Making the best out of a bad situation is more than the usual design challenge. After London’s U-turn in Olympic Stadium legacy architects and engineers have done the impossible.

Just to add that that was the jury prize. The public vote was won by Besiktas Vodafone Arena....

"It’s worth mentioning, the stadium received support from 27,386 voters despite not being promoted by Beşiktaş. And still it was ranked well above stadiums of West Ham and Olympique Lyon who informed fans about the vote. Chapeaux bas!"

So even West Hams fans didn't vote for it as the best stadium.

Karren, as one might expect, has already tweeted to this effect.

Yet she hasn't tweeted a link to the judges' statement which announced the win. Why is that?

Is it because they open their statement by noting that Karren's "most successful stadium migration ever" was actually a bit of a f***-up and that West Ham fans will be incredulous at the decision taken? Let's see, shall we?

"We can already imagine the shock on some West Ham fans’ faces. Yes, their transition from Upton Park to London Stadium hasn’t been going smoothly (to put it mildly). But our Jury evaluated London Stadium from a different perspective, judging the challenge posed by transition from athletics to Premier League football."

Oh dear, Karren. Oh dear.

I'd like to know the criteria for that jury vote, because the London stadium falls short of every acceptable attribute for a proper football stadium.

I cannot think of a more worthy winner. Where else can you eat candy floss and popcorn whilst trampolining at a football match AND participate in some hand to hand combat under the best floodlights in the business.

My compatriot actually used the words "a masterpiece of engineering"
How does one restore one's nation's dignity after that?
I'm crying out for help here!

Google 'West ham retractable seating' and scroll down the images. You'll soon find some ammo.

Anyone else get the impression that the award organizers can't quite believe who won it either?

"While the Jury is aware that the planned retractable seating system isn’t implemented as it should have been already, the concept of how stands are moved closer seems to work. At least to the extent that it can. After all, we’re not talking of a football-specific stadium, because it has to be converted for athletics every summer. This makes it a compromise by all means."

"One member of our Jury not particularly fond of the stadium is Andy Simons, but we’ll let him argue why he gave the low grade of just 3.0 out of 10 in every category. “The key point of my scoring is that this is not a new stadium. I am not judging quality of the 2012 Olympic Stadium, but the merits of the legacy conversion. The new roof does effectively cover all the football configuration seating, but the use of tension and compression ring balanced technology is not new. The new external aesthetic is achieved by large fabric banners within the context of the original structure. The internal atmosphere for football is not good, sight-lines are extended and the seats are significantly far away from the pitch. The context is good in the Legacy park but scored low because the stadium is existing.”

Very fair criticism, shared by thousands of West Ham fans, but it still doesn’t mean that architects, engineers and contractors did a bad job. Quite the opposite: they made the best they could with the conditions of legacy U-turn after 2012 Olympics.

Payet has put the boot into them now:

“I had no desire to play in the lower reaches of the Premier League,” he said. “The defensive system that we put in place did not give me any pleasure. With a 5-4-1 in front of our box, I could have had all the freedom in the world, so it’s difficult for me to explain. You could say that I was pissed off, yes. I worked hard in every game without taking any pleasure."

If I waited six months I would lose six months.
