Ive defended Sissoko as a competent body filling out the side in the face of injuries, but we probably should've started with Janssen up top and Son in the midfield.

This was the problem yesterday i agree - we made the wrong call at the start of the game regarding how to set up.

I'm usually pretty optimistic when it comes to our players, i'll defend them past the point of defence in most cases but the hard thing with Sissoko, is that i can't tell if he even gives a shit.

Watching him for France in the Euros, he did, he played out of his skin for them. But right now i can't tell if he's either lacking confidence, not up to speed with our style of play or genuinely can't be arsed to try.

With players coming in from different leagues and countries i always allow a lengthy settling in period to build confidence, settle into life and the team - not saying some of that isn't applicable with a player joining from another PL team but you'd expect it to be mitigated slightly but perhaps that's a myth.

Anyway, ramble over - i'm sure he got his start yesterday for showing a bit of willing/ability in training and i'm sure judgement will occur in the summer regarding him, one way or the other.

I feel like our club is cursed when it comes to record signings ever since Rebrov it has gone downhill

Rebrov - May 2000 - £11m
Bent - June 2007 - £16.5m
Modric - May 2008 - £16.5m
Bentley - July 2008 - Up to £17m
Paulinho - July 2013 - Up to £17m
Soldado - August 2013 - Up to £26.2m
Lamela - August 2013 - Up to £30m
Sissoko - August 2016 - £30m

Other than Modric(who didnt break the club transfer record but just matched it depending on your source)

All of those signings bar Lamela have been horrendous. I love Lamela but even he hasnt been a great signing

Les Ferdinand as well. Not the worst striker we've had but a clear downgrade on Sheringham who he replaced and was constantly injured.

He has undoubtedly been very poor this season but surely there is more to come. He can't be this bad. I know he had some good performances in the summer but I also remember times when he was picked out on MOTD as Newcastle's best player. We haven't seen anything from him yet and I just hope he delivers in at least one game.

Meh.

He wasn't terrible last night, just plain average. He's very ineffective trying to play that wide attacker role, he shows decent glimpses when he's central

I think we should give him a go at RWB. Me and my mate play him there on Co-Op Seasons on Fifa and he's the tits there.

Yeah he absolutely doesn't work as a 4-2-3-1 winger. We might see more from him if he got a chance in the 3-4-2-1 either centrally or as a replacement for Alli or Eriksen because his few good moments for us have all come when he's been more central, but we have such an established core there that I can't see him getting much time in those positions.

He has all the attributes; physically strong, quick bursts of pace, works hard and has an imposing physique.

However, he is clumsy, lacks a decent first touch and seems to be totally shot of confidence.

I try to be optimistic with him, like I do every Spurs player, but I just don't have the faith in him to come into the side and do a job when needed. Real shame.

He's so bad he makes the Paulinho signing look like a great bit of business. I'd literally have Paulinho playing over him. I'd even consider playing Fazio down the right, or see if Poch fancied getting his boots on before playing the bag of organs that is Sissoko.

He doesn't even deserve a place on the bench between now and the end of the season. Onomah, Nkoudou, and Edwards might be a bit raw but they've got talent and should be played instead of him.

What was so terrible last night out of interest?

Completely agree. I had low expectations when we signed him and he has failed to even reach them. If we could sell him in the Summer, I am confident that Edwards could step up and replace him in the squad and offer a far greater threat and contribution, The only thing Sissoko provides is strength and physicality and he doesn't even use them as well as he should. Cut our losses and give youth a chance rather than bringing in another expensive squad filler.

It takes him a minimum of 10 touches to get the ball under control, that's of course if he hasn't ballooned the ball 10 - 15 yards ahead of him with his first touch and lost possession as a result. As I've said before it appears as if the ball is completely alien to him, like he doesn't do any ball work in between appearances.

Yeah, its not worked has it.

Has to slip behind Son and Jansen in getting picked, also GKN in my order of preference.

There was a reason why he wasn't that great for a team that was relegated last season. He just isn't that great.

Part of me wonders whether Levy signed him just so he can negotiate a great deal when we sell him.

Yeah, I think it's abundantly clear to even the staunchest of optimists that we were well and truly had by Ashley. The guy doesn't even resemble a footballer.

It was Everton who were had, we just panicked and matched the fee

He doesn't. He is highly over rated and he knows he can't live up to the expectations of the stupid money we paid for him. His days are numbered so he is just collecting his pay till we find somebody stupid enough to buy him for half what we paid.

I can't understand why he stays so wide. None of our other players who play in the three of the 4-2-3-1 ever do. If it's instructions it's poor from Poch because Sissoko is no wide man. If it's Sissoko himself not understanding the system, or his own strengths, then au revoir this summer.

He's just not good enough. Lacks a touch, lacks game intelligence and any desire to improve. We clearly scouted him in the Euro's during which he played wide for France and some how managed to put in some decent performances. Any one that watches him regularly and sees the touch he has should know he would be useless in CM where he would regularly slow the game down and constantly get dispossessed ...
