Surprised by the majority so far in thread just saying no.

Seems like got a lot of potential to me and has scored 12 goals since January!

Why so quick to write him off as a no?
Because they are turning into Snobs

I'm keen on Josh King.

We can't afford to buy a player better than Kane who can slot straight into our first 11 and can't necessarily afford to take a risk on another Jansen either.

I'd liken this to the signing of Dempsey, where he might not have been to everyone's liking but it was an effective signing and he scored lots of key goals.

King and a young prospect with genuine first team potential would be perfect.

You mention the word potential, and while he isn't old he is 25. Of course he can still improve but his more malleable years are coming to a close. He is in a purple patch at the moment and I can see nothing in his history to suggest his current scoring rate is anything more than that.

Potential? He's 25 I think.

Not for me. Got pace to burn but is that what we need in a striker? Maybe on the bigger pitch at Wembley.

Anyway all the recent news about him just seems to be his agent's work because the player is scoring some goals. I doubt we are really after him.

Proven goal scorer. Has done a brilliant job the last 2 years when he's had to come in and be the striker since Callum Wilson cant ever stay fit. He can play in the AM as well. Would be a great option to have off the bench, IMO. Is the bate here because he's not a sexy enough name or because he plays for Bournemouth? Or is it both?

I have woken in a parallel universe where Yankspurs has made the most sensible post in the thread.

Please God let us still be above arsenal.

I think he was playing on the wings for Blackburn, not as a CF as he is now for Bournemouth.

Last season he scored 6 in 31 games. This season he has scored 15 in 34, big improvement. Problem is 12 of those have come since January, meaning he only scored 3 in the first half of the season. This is the very definition of a purple patch and until he is consistently scoring beyond a 3 month period he is nothing more than an OK Premier league Striker who is going through a good spell.

I get that but iirc he scored 1 in 50+ games for Blackburn in a lesser league. Even from the wing that is a piss poor return numbers wise for an attacking player.

Scored lots of goals very recently but I don't see anything special in him. But then I wanted Berahino, so what do I know?

Another point is he could well go on to get 20 goals in all competions this season. If that is the case Bournemouth are going to be looking for in excess of 20 mil and I would expect pushing into the 25+ mark. Would it really be a good idea to spend that kind of money on a player who has only really put up decent numbers for 3-4 months. If he was 21, I would be a bit more receptive of the idea but at 25 I would like to have seen a lot more from him.

I thought he was younger, not sure on him but not going to question Poch if he wants him.

He was also a lot younger then - it was his fifth club and he was only 20 when he joined.
What's to even say he started or played lengthy time in those 50 matches. For all we know (and I'm sure someone will go and investigate) he may have started half those and played 10 mins per game as a sub for the rest. He was 4th/5th choice striker.

Trix - on a wider point, do you think there will be funds available over and above what we bring in from sales this Summer ?

I like Josh King a lot, I think he's a crackin young player BUT as I said in the transfer wish list thread, we arguably need to be looking for next level talent if we want to challenge for the league again next season.

Was very surprised when Bournemouth bought him, and even more surprised when they actually managed to turn him into a genuinely good PL striker. Good enough for Spurs? Doubt it.

But I may be letting my earlier judgements of him cloud the picture. He used to be a quick but bang average player with a shitty attitude, but he has definitely made progress beyond what I imagined possible a couple of years ago.

First of all, lets not lessen what he has done this season. King has scored 12 goals in last 14 games, including scoring against Chelsea, Liverpool, United, Everton (2), WestHam (3). Any player who does this has to be respected regardless of age. We may slate Vardy but a similar run was the core to the Leicester success last year.

Secondly, for someone who is 25, he has hardly started 100 games & importantly rarely played as a striker. Even this season, his move to a more forward role came because of a injury to Wilson & Afobe not being good enough. We have seen in the past including Drogba that some can be late bloomers.

From what little I have seen of him, he is an intelligent player who is constantly on the move & takes his chances cleanly when presented.

Where I agree with you is on the transferfee. We need someone to back up Kane but not at a huge fee. Given his recent exploits, I dont see a fee < 20m. But if we could get a fee between 15m to 20m, I am not against the move.

Depends what the price is. Think he's looked very good when I've seen him this year.

We tend to either have small, quick players or big, not-so-quick players. He has a bit of both - can hold up the ball, and go past people with turn of pace. Will give us another option - he could complement Kane as well as replace him, whereas Janssen AND Kane together aren't really a great option.

Must admit, I thought he was younger tho.
