Is Josh King Good Enough For Spurs?

That certain Dutch striker is also 3 years younger, Holland's first choice number 9 (last I heard anyway and hit double figures in the league 3 years in a row in Holland.

Admittedly at a low level but he would have been 18/19 when scoring those goals.

Hardly the same thing is it?

You've seen how Holland are doing lately haven't you.... And King is first choice for Norway and has 3 in 8 this season.
And as for double figures in the league 3 consecutive years - 2 of those were in 2nd Division, and even the top flight isn't really much more of a standard than Championship here, with the exception of Ajax.

I'm sure had King been in League One/Two at the same age, playing as a striker, he'd have bagged a few.

Let's just bear in mind that we're probably looking for a Kane backup again, rather than someone who will play alongside or replace him.

Fair enough. I feel Janssen is one year advanced in Poch's style and building his fitness towards the necessary level. I don't see the value in buying someone three years older, who is nothing special, to replace a young player finding his feet in the league.

Not going to disagree with that.
Give him another good pre-season and we could see a much better player next season. The good thing with Janssen is his mentality and willingness to work hasn't dropped.

I think we'll have 3 strikers in the squad next season (not including youth who don't need listing in the 25 squad). Kane, Janssen and one more. To play twice a week successfully you need to rotate strikers like full backs. Fergie had 4 decent strikers and used them all regularly. I think Poch will want a PL-proven striker. Someone like King makes sense, as he brings pace. But an alternative is say Defoe on a one-season 'free'.

How about Son?

I don't count Son (or Lamela) as out and out strikers. I regard them (and maybe a new signing of the Zaha type) as 'wide men' who can play in a 3 and give us width. Obviously Son can do a job up front especially against certain types of teams, but in my opinion we'll need one more 'hold up / goal scorer' who is best playing down the middle, especially to cover any injuries, if we are to play successfully twice a week in PL, CL and domestic cups.

Sure but if we onlyplay one striker then Surely Kane is 1st choice, a like for like in style backup in Janssen and an inside forward type in Son seems the right amount.

Buying King and keeping Janssen would surely result in King never playing unless we changed formation, which we won't.

3 hold-up strikers when we only play one striker is simply too many.

We don't need 3 strikers. We play with 1 up front. You may as well say we need 3 left backs, it makes as much sense.

Not sure on King, but I wouldn't write Janssen off just yet. He will be only 23 next month, played only 1 season of top level football (if Eredivisie counts as top level...) before joining us and the premier league, one of the toughest league in the World. He has the attitude and he knows Poch's style and requirements already. So I'd give him a whole preseason and another year with us.

Josh King is having a hot season with his finishing but if you boil it down there is nothing about him that suggests he would be good enough to make the step up. He doesn't take anywhere near enough shots (around 2 per game) for an elite forward and while his non penalty goal rate is around 0.4 per game this year, an expected rate is more like 0.25.

Tottenham do not need to be buying overachieving 1 in 4 type forwards

See also Andre Gray, who scopes worse than KIng.

Better than Shane Long and he's been mentioned on here loads of times as backup to Kane.

So let's get anyone who's better than Shane long then. Janssen not been great either should we get anyone better than him? Or should we get someone who is actually a good fit for us?

King can play wide as well so gives some nice flexibility.

We could even play Kane-Son-King as a frontline if Dele and Eriksen weren't available.
